Starwood (words & music by Fritz Jung)
One thousand came, from miles around Destiny Sherman, that Brushwood compound Pagans gather, for a mid-summers dream Back to the woods, "alternative" themes
Popcorn houses, explode in the night Three-fold more, by the morning light Mundania turns, up and around Frank and Darlene sayin' "Come on down" !
There's Witches in Sherman now Magic from all around From an astral vibration This Pagan nation is born Witches in Sherman now!
Drums 'round the fire, dancers that move World-beat rhythms, the energy grooves They keep getting better, as time moves on But when they listen, that power is strong
Lit by the passion, four sexes wail Hot touch creatures, it's a faerie tale Early at night, when the sun fades away There ain't no doubt, it's time to play !
(Chorus)
Tattoos and Brownies, that warm summer smile Moon & Stars people, tellin' time from a sun dial Margaritas and Mead, that stray sunflower From a "Wake & Bake" mornin', To Kabloona! Luna! Hour!
(Chorus)
Witches with a burnin' desire ta dance naked around the fire Babylon torches, Hello Honeys, we're home! Home at Starwood now...

Starwood is arguably THE Pagan Festival (in the US) and takes place in Sherman, Ny on a wonderful piece of land called the "Brushwood folklore center" (owned by Frank and Darlene Barney). Starwood is presented every July by A.C.E. and typical attendance is close to 2,000
Starwood '91 was my second festival ever and I was blown away by the light, love and magick of both the land and the people. I went on to attend this festival for the next 6 years and met many Pagans that am honored to call friends to this day. Doing a "festival celebration" song is pretty much a no-brainer for the Pagan musician, so much to celebrate, so much to be inspired by.
I wrote the primary riff for this tune at Starwood in 93, but didn't write the melody/lyrics until the political infighting in the craft started to drive me crazy... For it's first 4 months this tune was a "Witch Wars Tune"... I really DID like it as a song and political statement but didn't want any negativity on this project. So, I rewrote the lyrics and re-recorded the vocal trax in the 11th hour to celebrate the Starwood Pagan gathering.
Although a simple tune, this was the second original song I had ever written. Many that purchased the CD felt that this was "the single" and I get requests to play it to this day.
Enjoy!
Recorded: March 1995 at MiceTrax Digital Magick Recording studio (read: our living room)
Guests/Musicians: All sounds are performed by yours truly.
Technical Notes: The simple drum parts were performed live with a close mike on my foot (taping on our hallow wooden floor), my left hand was triggering a great snare sound on a Korg keyboard and my right hand was using a "Chicken Shake" egg shaker... This song is in the key of E (played in a "D" configuration with the capo on II)
