Be Well (Fritz Jung & Jane Washburn)
I woke up on Sunday with my right side gone Mass. General Boston tried to help me hold on In the doctor's room my pain and fear were rising He said "Take these pills"! It'll be six months or so... Oh No!
I can't wait, I've got deadlines and meetings ! So, I drove on up to a seaside town. The Witch's black hair shone, as she gave me tea and greetings I told her of a doctor, she smiled and she said...
Be well__ I will heal you if I'm able Be well__ through the Craft of the Wise Be well__ Layed her herbs upon the table I saw the healing happen, reflected in her eyes. Be well!
She worked me hard, I felt changed by dawn The pain inside me faded before ten days were gone I felt such peace, the strength inside me lingers She won't let me pay her, So I wrote her this song
Be well__ I will heal you if I'm able Be well__ through the Craft of the Wise Be well__ I'll work you in alpha I saw the healing happen, reflected in her eyes. Be well!
(Instrumental break)
We've all got the power we need to embrace To light those in need, to work any case Alternative healing ain't alternative to me Magic done today will soon be science ya' see
Be well__ I will heal you if I'm able Be well__ through the Craft of the Wise Be well__ Layed her herbs upon the table I saw the healing happen, reflected in her eyes. Be well!

This is a very special tune to me and is a true story of a miraculous healing of a stroke I had in late 1994. That experience will always remind that I am part of a very special and very magickal community.
'Twas the week of Yule in 1994 and Wren and I had just met. I had been quite sick for a few weeks but really wanted to attend our annual Yule party in Salem. The night of the event, I made the decision to "pull myself together" and make the trip (about 20 miles). That night I not only kissed Wren for the very first time but later suffered a substantial stroke leaving 40% of the right side of my body paralyzed (That woman can kiss!). This experience caused my friends and myself much concern, something was very wrong.
The next morning I got a call from Laurie (Cabot) and she said that she believed that I had suffered a stroke and encouraged me to go to the hospital at once. Mercifully, one of the best hospitals on the planet was just down the street. Mass. General (Boston, Mass) IS the hospital that both St. Elsewhere and ER were modeled after and is top notch. To make a long story short, the prognosis was that I had indeed experienced a stroke and I would heal "naturally" in 3-6 months They also noted that I shouldn't expect any change for at least a few months. I was horrified.
I am not known for my patience and both the news of the stroke and the fact that I couldn't speak clearly or motivate most of the right side of my body freaked me out. Gods be praised, I had many wonderful friends that made it their duty to work me psychically and physically in a effort to render a quick healing. To everyone's amazement I was 90% healed within a week's time. Amazing for sure. Thank You, Laurie, Gypsy, Richard, Michael, Therese, Wren and the Witches of Salem for this wonderful piece of magick.
The last thing on my mind was using this experience to inspire a tune, but I did share the above details with my friend Jane (of Jane's Tidings Fame) via email. She surprised me and said that my "story" had inspired her to write a poem. I was most impressed and loved the "Be Well" line in it. The wheels started turning, I chopped it up a bit, fleshed out a chorus, added an extra verse and wrote the melody. The tune came together quickly and was recorded that spring. It's a simple Pagan pop tune but one that will always hold a special meaning to me... Enjoy and Believe!
On a Related Note: This experience has a wonderful side story related to a cover tune I was working on at this time called Soldiers of Love (anyone remember that one?)... I will release that tune and that story later this month.
Technical Notes: Instrumentation was simple and was done mostly on a Korg O1w keyboard. The Drum pattern was composed by me playing live on the computer desk and then replacing the thumps and smacks with high quality drum samples. The "Egyptian rune whispers" that intro the tune were actually an after thought and "flown in" after the tune was completed. Months earlier while recording a guided meditation in our living room with Laurie Cabot and Therese Devoe, Michael (Pendragon) suggested that Laurie and Therese record some Egyptian rune whispers for fun. Oddly they fit into this tune beautifully and added a nice feel to it.
Recorded: April 1995 at MiceTrax Digital Magick Recording studio in Boston, Mass. Guests/Musicians: Egyptian Rune Whispers: Laurie Cabot & Therese Devoe... All other sounds are performed by yours truly. Photos: Top picture taken by Wren in the summer of 94 and I took the one of Laurie and Therese recording in our living room (Our own Peg lives there now)
