Sessions: Celtic Feast of the Dead...
That Project just before Witchvox.

I n 1995 I met a beautiful and deeply spiritual creature named Wren. We quickly feel in love and knew we had truly found our "soul mates". At this time I was attempting to write and record some original music. I had never actually written any "original" music before, but did want to give it a shot. I was a "rock drummer" (spare me the jokes, I know them all) for most of life but have also played guitar since I was a teen. This project was an attempt to put it all together. Although my musical skills are limited, I had a wonderful time doing this and am actually proud of some of the results. CFOTD was finished in early 1996. A few months later we tossed up a couple of pages on the net related to Witchcraft... That first site eventually became the Witches' Voice and we've been quite busy ever since.

The Tunes: Songwriting is a skill and one that perhaps someday I will properly develop. CFOTD consists of 12 Pagan/Witch tunes that cite some obvious 60's pop music influences. Lyrically they celebrate my community experiences from the early to mid 1990s. Stylistically these tunes are all over the map, because the types of music that I enjoy are equally diverse.

Technical Specs: CFOTD was recorded live, one track at a time on a Macintosh Quadra 840av. This was the first computer to actually do multi-track direct to disk multi-track recording (well sort of) without the need of an expensive sound card. I didn't have much for equipment but did manage to make some noises with an old martin guitar, a unique method of recording drums, an Ibanez bass and a Korg keyboard. This week I did learn that MP3 conversion does tend to kill the sonic quality a bit but all in all these tunes are quite listenable.

Why this CD is no longer for sale: Several reasons actually. Over the past three years, CFOTD has sold quite well, despite any substantial promotion (over 400 copies), via it's page over at DreamRoads Collective. The fundamental problem was the burden of burning the CD, labeling it, printing the graphics, constructing the jewel case, packaging it up and processing the check. Although I certainly appreciated the orders, this tedious process wasn't worth 13 bucks of my time. I got so I dreaded orders coming in. Late in 1999 I simply noted that it was sold out and gained some major piece of mind. I have recently changed that to 'No longer for sale'. I have little desire to make any more copies and I apologize to the many of you that have been waiting for me to to make it available again.

My commitment to doing Witchvox for the past 7 years has all but killed any free time that I might have to actually BE a musician. My dream is that perhaps someday I will find the time to try this music writing thing again. Until then I will reminisce about the "good ole' days" and take this walk down memory lane.
