Hold the Hammer (words and music by Fritz Jung)
Celtic wisdom for all to see Shamanic journey for you and me Witches gather upon the hill Yes, it matters there's time here still
Sing another rhyme to me Just another sign believe, We'll make it Changing with the turn of the wheel Working the skills to heal True to ourselves, to no one else
Mother, Maiden, Crone, My power's grown With my family, The Craft of the Wise
Hold the hammer close to the heart Internal power, yes, you can start Deep down in alpha in present time Further to delta my love it shines
I'm a altar boy again ! All my energy I'll send, to the Goddess Studying to be a priest, Energy to be released For the good of all, come hear our call
Mother, Maiden, Crone, My power's grown With my family, The Craft of the Wise
Celtic wisdom for all to see Shamanic journey for you and me Witches gather upon the hill Yes, it matters there's time here still

This month I am honored to offer a tune called Hold the Hammer... This tune is one of the two "slow tunes" from this project and arguably a throw away. Of course this is just my opinion, many disagree and do seem to love this one. Personally, I like the harmonic embellishments that start the verses and am quite happy with the middle eight. Doing those 4 part harmonies for the background "ahhhhhs" in the middle eight is easier said than done and usually they just don't quite work out, this time they did and do give this section the kick that it needed.
Lyrically it has a few bright spots but lacks the strength of the other "slow one" in which Wren penned the words. Look for that one (Blade of the Sidhe) later this year
Cats: The vocal trax were difficult to do because my kitties either hate my voice or believe that I am in pain when I sing. Doing accurate harmony vox requires concentration and this can be shattered the second a kittie jumps on your lap as a surprise. To this day, I can hear a hesitation in my voice on this track because of this. To actually DO the vocal tracks without their 'cryin', I had to lock them in the bedroom (which is not fun for any of us).
Ouch: The vocal intonation on this one is kind of weird and it's a little flat "pitch wise in some of the verses" but the chorus is strong and the concept is good.
Recorded: in June of 1995 at MiceTrax Digital Magick Recording studio in Boston, Mass. This tune was primarily acoustic guitar, drum machine (I can't play that slow that accurately), and bass. This tune offers many stereo tricks, including hard panning. This tune and others from this series were recorded on a Macintosh q840av. This was the first computer rig to be able to to do 16 bit digital recording (8 real time trax) right out of the box. To be able to cut and paste musical parts was a ton of fun.
