If you've never been to one of the marvelous festivals hosted by T'sa and Corwyn, you've missed one of the loveliest festival sites in the Southeast. Dragon Hills is located in the Northwestern portion of Georgia, about half way between Birmingham, AL. and Atlanta, GA.
Rowanfest is held on a dedicated 40 acres of the 170 acre site and features low rolling hills and forest, bound on one side by a shallow ravine with a rocky stream.
(from the original Witchvox events advert - "RowanFest is an annual festival which has always had a name for fun and enjoyment. We are proud to announce special musical guests: Moon Struck , Starwind & the Raft, Trybalaka, God & Tonic, and Spiral Rhythm. Classes will be given by special guests like: Patricia Telesco, Oxun Olukari Al'Aye, Corwyn of the Keltoi Tribe, Green of Dragon Tree Grove, and others").
We arrived late Thursday night, set up camp, and wandered up to the brand new drumming circle. Bardic circle was in full swing and we were treated to a wide variety of talent as we said "hello" to our old friends and met some new. The new drumming space is an incredible, multi-tiered, multi-purpose area with a sand-bottomed dancing circle, little twinkle lights under the benches to illuminate the drumming area just enough to allow you to see but not enough to be a distraction, and a pretty gateway allowing entry into the entire area. The pictures don't do it justice. This space was definitely designed for nightlife.

More building is being planned for the near future. The Dragon Hills folks are laying the foundation for a Great Hall, a structure that will serve as workshop space and presenting special events as well as a place to just hang out and kibbutz -- and stay out of the rain! And there will soon be a new lake added to the already stunningly beautiful view!
Offered were a diversity of gifted presenters, from the well known such as Trish Telesco, Oxun O'lakari, Greywolf and Briga to lesser-known but equally skilled speakers from the Atlanta area. A wide variety of workshops ranging from drumming to brewing were also offered.
Other activities included Ritual (although main ritual was cancelled so that Mother Earth could receive some much needed rain) a lively auction, musical performances on Friday and Saturday, and the Dragon hills "May Games", featuring updated versions of the Highland games, like a kaber toss, head toss, shield pull, etc. The Dragon Hills May Games are a wonderful, traditional community event, and seemed to be enjoyed by all.
It was soothing to wander over this beautiful and magickal land, getting back in touch with the familiar trees, feeling that red earth under our feet and noting the changes and improvements since our last visit. It is very clear how loved and how tenderly nurtured is this land by its caretakers -- Corwyn, T'sa, Blue Crow and Linda, and the Dragon Hills kindred.
