We update this page every couple of days so feel free to bookmark it for future reference

The Next Pagan Holiday...

Happy Lughnasadh
(around AUGUST 1st) also known as: Lammas, Cornucopia, Thingtide

Lughnasadh is the first in the trilogy of harvest festivals. It marks the beginning of the harvest season, and the decline of Summer into Winter. It is the turning point of the earth's life cycle. Festivities and rituals typically center around the assurance of a bountiful harvest season and the celebration of the harvest cycle. Check out our Holiday essay "Thoughts at Lammas" by Katrina

Greetings and happy Lammas!

First of all, let us thank the 338 Pagans who took the time to fill out the first Quest For Unity survey in its first 4 days. Your responses have been enlightening, inspiring and thought provoking. We hope that you will continue to express an interest in this topic and complete the entire series of surveys. How many will there be? We are not really sure. You see, this whole project is being driven by YOUR feelings and desires. We are simply providing the space where we can all come together to speak and to be heard. As we have read over the results of part one, many further questions and possibilities have presented themselves, and as a result we see this project going on throughout the remainder of this year.

We have consciously chosen to include two formats into the survey. One is the rather close-ended procedure of asking specific questions and allowing only a choice of one answer. We do know that this is annoying for many people. But there is a purpose to the system. We need a balance between the "factual" data-which will be logged into a data-base-and the open-ended essay parts which will be included at the end of each survey segment. This will act as a balance to give credence to the 'results' of the information itself. Interpretation can be a very personal business. This system allows for the "factual" information to be weighed fairly, while also allowing for the introduction of the personal viewpoint. In other words, the facts give us a base on which to interpret the more personal comments in proper perspective. It gives us some of the reasons for the reactions to certain questions and situations that many of you have experienced and have stated in the essay sections.

As this project continues, the questions will become more focused and in many ways more difficult to answer. We only hope that you will stick it out and continue to answer honestly. We KNOW there are ways in which we differ in technique. Read any message board, and you can see that we have established that fact pretty well already. What we hope to be able to bring out is those ways that we are ALIKE, so we can build on those things in the future.

We, here at TWV, were frankly amazed at the similarities in experience and thought that we heard coming in from Pagans all over the globe. We would like to share some these with you, so that we can all continue this project together. By keeping you informed of the results as they become available, you can reflect on and join in the entire process. This is an on-going developing inquiry into the basic beliefs of those in the Pagan community. Someone remarked to us, that what we may be trying to do is not so much build an "organization", but rather to give birth to a new kind of "organism". We like that thought, don't you?

Modern Day Witchcraft...

A Religion? A Personal Belief System?
Is Unity Really Possible?

Pagan Unity?: Can we even use the two words in the same sentence? We have seen a definite movement in this direction and we have also seen many of the obstacles that stand in the way of such an effort.

Can we find some common ground that will define ourselves as a religion- or are we destined to remain as isolated groups holding on to just our own personal belief systems? Can the two - the individual belief system and the common good of all defined as a religion - be reconciled? The answer we give may in fact determined the future of us all...

The month of July opens with some thoughts from three Pagans on the topic of "Solitary or Coven?" Some Witches are solitary by choice, some by chance. Some have experienced both settings, some would like to. There are pros and cons to each approach. Maybe hearing what some other Witches have experienced will help you find your own best Path.
