Witchvox Weekly Update for 3/15/1999

This weeks Feature:

Well, based on the number of responses that TWV has received on one of this month's essay topics, we'd have to believe that either a LOT of pagans are tired of saying, "Really. It Ain't Like In The Movies! REALLY." or they are simply tired of shelling out $7.50 only to realize that Hollywood-yes, once again- has distorted their beliefs for the quick cash take. (Hope at least the popcorn was good.)

With the influx of new people interested in pagan paths, there are bound to be a lot of questions that will be raised about the true beliefs of Witches/Wiccans and pagans of all types. These fine pagan authors offer some of their ideas on how to field those inquiries and provide some practical tips for those who may be just beginning to seek out more information about earth-based religions and belief systems. Check out YOUR communities thoughts on It Ain't Like In The Movies!

PhoenixPhyre 1999 is a GO!

Rumours have been flying, this past week, releated to a FIRE at the site of the Phoenix Phyre Site. THESE rumours are FALSE. PhoenixPhyre '99 will go on as scheduled in Land of Lakes, Florida - just north of Tampa, Florida (March 25th - 28th, 1999)

Wren and I are proud to be a part of this wonderful gathering and will be doing 2 Workshops and taking part in a powerful panel discussion on The Pagan Net (hosted by our buddy - Bill Kilborn). We are thrilled to able to hang out with our Floridian brothers and sisters and cherish the opportunity to actually meet some online friends.

The featured list of presenters and performers includes: Patricia Telesco, Don and Daniella Waterhawk, Elspeth of Haven, Maya Heath, Main Ritual with Full Moon Circle (TUUC), Phyllis Curlott and Bruce Fields, Bill Kilborn (WADL), Alexian and Seridina from Earth Tones Studios

Pagan Music? Really?

Andy Partridge Comes out of the Broom Closet!
XTC releases "Apple Venus Vol.I"

Last Tuesday was a special day 'round these parts. It marked the release of XTC's first new music in 7 years... "Apple Venus Vol.I". Sonically breath-taking this disc shows, once again, the incredible writing of Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding. Pre-release reviews talked of Sgt. Pepper/McCartney-esc melody lines produced with lavish orchestration. This IS true, but the good news is that IT WORKS. Much to OUR surprise track #6 has "Next Pagan Anthem" written all over it. Simply stated, the incredible "Greenman" blew us away, melodically, lyrically and spiritually. Apple Venus is laced with tongue in cheek lyrical humor, powerful melodies and interesting grooves.

XTC has been around for 20 years and has had several minor hits. The most dramatic and controversial being 1990's "Dear God". Andy's cynical side has often called the dark/greedy site of mainstream religion on the carpet. He clearly penned "Greenman" as a celebration. Are they a Pagan band? No, I am pretty sure they don't claim to be,. but "Greenman" confirms what so many of us have suspected. Blessed be Andy and Colin... You have once again delivered the goods. The Witches' Voice salutes you for one of your finest efforts.

The Witches' Voice would like to thank the Chalkhills website for keeping us up to date on this release and for the fabulous site that they do for us XTC fans.

For the record: The Witches' Voice DID NOT "Put a Curse" on Celine Dion. Although, it IS true that Wren and I aren't fans of Celine's "music", we don't/won't work black or controlling magic... This rumor was untrue and was unfounded. It's worth noting that on this weeks People Magazine cover it states that Celine made 50 million last year. It is clear that Celine's "magic" is working quite well.
