Blessed Ostara to One and to All!

Today marks the first true day of Springtide. The days and nights are now equal in length as the Young God continues to mature and grow. We begin to see shoots of new growth and swelling buds on the trees. Energy is building as the days become warmer with promise.

Frazzled and in need of a break... Last week rendered a blur of activity here at the Witches' Voice. Countless site tweaks, complete verification of our events and links sections, mountains of email, and involvement in various community dramas. Pretty much just another week with Mercury in retrograde ("he" goes direct on April 2nd. @ 4:15am e.s.t.).

This week promises to be one of much fun and merriment. Later this week Wren and I will take a long needed break and attend the PhoenixPhyre Festival just north of Tampa, Florida (see details just below). We are thrilled to able to hang out with our Floridian brothers and sisters and cherish the opportunity to actually meet, face to face, some online friends.

Bless YOU Crystal!

PhoenixPhyre LIVE! The Witches' Voice plans to bring you DAILY coverage of the PhoenixPhyre Festival starting later this week. If you have never been to Pagan festival or simply want to "feel" the action, check back at this page for our daily coverage.

Camping Anyone? Any guesses as to whether I can talk Wren into camping with our King-size bed and two fluffy kitties just 40 minutes away? Her response? NFW !  We will be quasi-camping though... Hanging out at the Waterhawks compound. Do stop by and say hi.

You Call It Easter, We Call It Ostara... Our good friend, the beautiful and firey, Peg Aloi has penned a new addition to her holiday essays series.

"Easter gets its name from the Teutonic goddess of spring and the dawn, whose name is spelled Oestre or Eastre (the origin of the word "east" comes from various Germanic, Austro-Hungarian words for dawn that share the root for the word "aurora" which means " to shine"). Modern pagans have generally accepted the spelling "Ostara" which honors this goddess as our word for the Vernal Equinox." - Click HERE for the complete article.

Also new this week: Three new Young Pagan essays, an article by Tom Canfield on "It Ain't like in the movies" (page SEVEN) and a powerful new page in our Pagan Parenting section by Valeria entitled "Myth and Nomenclature". Our sincerest thanks goes out to these authors for their offerings.

In closing allow us to wish you all a wonderful Ostara and once again thank you for making WitchVox a valuable resource on the Pagan 'Net.

Always in your service,

The Witches' Voice

Wren's Nest... Where the Action is!

Wren spends a great deal of time researching current news events that may be of interest or concern to Witches, Wiccans and Pagans. This page is a quick and convenient way for the Witches' Voice to keep you updated on the latest news, commentaries and issues that effect our community.

If it relates to the modern Wiccan community, chances are... You'll find it at Wren's Nest on the Web. If you are aware of a craft-related news clip, feel free to email Wren.

Updated Every day! Updates on Wren's Nest happen every day and in most cases several times a day, so remember to hit your reload button when you get there.

The WitchVox Spring cleansing ritual is now in progress!
13,000 links/contacts/events are in the process of being verified...

Update 3/21/99: We are thrilled that so many of you have decided to help build the powerful networking pages of TWV. Bless you for bringing this community together. Keeping our networking section accurate is another story all together (and one that is long overdue here at TWV). It is our mission to have the cleanest Pagan links and contacts pages on the Web.

  • Pagan Links at the Voice last Week (3/18/99) we emailed 2,043 WebSites to ask for verification of their listed data, to encourage updates and to kill those with dead email addresses, 90% of these have been already been modified or verified and 180 have been removed due to undeliverable mail.

  • Circles, Gatherings, Workshops and Events last Week (3/18/99) we also sent out Global Emails to verify all of the listings in our "ongoing events" sections. The TWV Events section is NOW clean and any discontinued "ongoing" events have been removed.

  • Witches' of the World Contact Names In the NEXT FEW WEEKS we will send out our "WitchVox Global Email for Spring" to over 10,000 folks that are listed on our State/Prov/Country pages. All "undeliverables" will be removed from our Witches' of the World Pages. We do this quarterly and history has told us to expect a 16.8% undeliverable return.

  • WHERE Did My listing go? If your listing is gone from our State/Prov/Country contacts, Events or Pagan Links pages, it is solely due to the fact that we sent you an email and got a "undeliverable address" response. Your listing is NOT gone but simply put on hold in our database until we hear from you. If this IS the case, kindly email us and make us aware of your new email address (with a reference to your listing). Do know that we can turn you back on with a click of the mouse.

  • YOUR Listing? To submit, update, remove or change your listing, Click HERE

  • To check out what is happening in your area click on any of the following links: Witches, Wiccans, Pagans or Circles, Events, Festivals or WitchVOX Pagan Links

The entire 347 page Witches of the World and Links sections are driven by a custom written Database System that has evolved over the past couple of years. Our WOTW pages are updated every 48 hours and are constantly being fine-tuned for accuracy... Check to see what's happening in YOUR state, province, or country today!

3 New Young Pagan Essays:

The Witches of tomorrow... Coming on strong TODAY! The WitchVox Young Pagan section is designed to work with and celebrate the unique needs of the Teen Witches of the World. We are proud to feature the writings the modern Teenage Witch. This month TWV is proud to feature the writings of 4 young Pagans....

"I'm a Witch! - How many teen Wiccans have wished that they could yell that at the top of their lungs without repercussion? I certainly have; to be able to come out of the broom closet and be done with all the secrecy would be so liberating. But at the moment only my family and close friends know that I'm a Witch and that's how it will stay. What is more important is to be able to say it to yourself. If you aren't comfortable enough to admit it to yourself, maybe you should reconsider your path." - Calandra Ravenshadow

Witches and their youngins'...

Our Pagan Parenting section is slowing coming back to life... The lioness's share of the credit goes to the beautiful Valeria Holtz... This week we feature a powerful article entitled "Myth and Nomenclature" Thank YOU Valeria for doing this work

"Just because somebody doesn't' like or understand the work 'witch' should be avoid teaching our religion to our children? The answer to that is a very loud 'NO!'. True Will transcends the ego. It is beyond the public consensus. It signifies the True Path, or the Personal Goal of each spirit. To deny the existence of the spirit, pure and immortal, would be to stifle that person's personal growth and developing understanding of Will. There are many ways to do this, but the only one that concerns us here is the potential for the denial of religious training as dictated by fear and in ignorance of Will" - Valeria Holtz

Visit our Pagan Parenting Pages for Valerie's latest article, a Book Review and some powerful links. If YOU are a Pagan Parent and would like to offer your magick to this section Email us with your thoughts.

Last week's Features:

Well, based on the number of responses that TWV has received on one of this month's essay topics, we'd have to believe that either a LOT of pagans are tired of saying, "Really. It Ain't Like In The Movies! REALLY." or they are simply tired of shelling out $7.50 only to realize that Hollywood-yes, once again- has distorted their beliefs for the quick cash take. (Hope at least the popcorn was good.)

With the influx of new people interested in pagan paths, there are bound to be a lot of questions that will be raised about the true beliefs of Witches/Wiccans and pagans of all types. These fine pagan authors offer some of their ideas on how to field those inquiries and provide some practical tips for those who may be just beginning to seek out more information about earth-based religions and belief systems. Check out YOUR communities thoughts on It Ain't Like In The Movies!
