Hail and Welcome!

Wren and I are just back from 4 days off at the PhoenixPhyre festival. Thanks to the warm hospitality of Wade and Dianne we had 4 of the finest days of our lives. We met some brilliant Witches, Wiccans and Pagans and do feel that we have made some new friends for life. Wren posted daily updates for Thursday and Friday and today we present to you final festival coverage and a couple of dozen wonderful photos. These were the easiest photos I have ever taken, EVERYone looked good and simply beamed with positive energy.

Our journal of PhoenixPhyre '99 has just been added to ever growing festival review pages and can be viewed in all of its glory by clicking here.

The Waterhawk camp was our home at the festival. Don and Daniella, bless you for what you continue to teach us, the high ethical position that you maintain and for the love that you've offered us over the years.

Three writers of the light: It was thrilling to watch a new connection between Trish Telesco, Phyllis Curott and Wren. The energy they created was very powerful to witness and a taste of this can be experienced from the photo to your right and the image on the front page of the Witches Voice this week.

Pagan Music: Alexian and Seridina from Earth Tones Studios impressed us all with a wonderful dinner time concert on Friday night. It was a big thrill for me to finally meet "the man" after chatting in email for the past two years. Alexian, my brother, YOU were even cooler than I imagined! AND PhoenixPhyre also featured a diverse community treat known as Bardic Circle. Elspeth and company slayed the crowd with there multi-versed crone tune.

While the humans are away: Surprisingly, our oldest kitty, Dixie did a wonderful job of keeping things going in our absence. Even more surprising was that she actually received 25 pieces of email. We will do everything in our (limited) power to persuade her to answer them.

Behind the "8" Ball: Four days off puts us instantly behind, but with hard work and evolving systems we should catch up fast. We returned on Sunday morning and immediately updated all the submissions to the Witches of the World section. This weekly update is next and then its off to hammer away at the barrage of email. If you have emailed us the past week, do have patience in that we do answer them all.

In closing allow us to again thank Wade and Dianne for a healing that we so desperately needed. We also offer a spirit-filled "til we meet again" to some new friends and to several existing relationships that ascended to a higher level! Jericho, Scott, Willow, Rowan, Walker, Raphael, Tony, Mark, Bill and Chris... Bless YOU for the love YOU make.

Always in your service,

The Witches' Voice

Wren's Nest... Where the Action is!

Wren spends a great deal of time researching current news events that may be of interest or concern to Witches, Wiccans and Pagans. This page is a quick and convenient way for the Witches' Voice to keep you updated on the latest news, commentaries and issues that effect our community.

Updated Every day! Updates on Wren's Nest happen every day and in most cases several times a day, so remember to hit your reload button when you get there.

Teachers of the Craft:
Bless YOU Peter!

It's not about how many books you have read, what titles you hold or how big your group is... It is not about what you ARE! It IS about what you do! We just received this powerful story of caring from the beautiful Rev. Mary.

It was about 1:45AM on Friday, March 26th, 1999. I was chatting with an ICQ contact named Peter. I started to chat with Peter on March 1st, so we had known each other less than one month when this event happened.

I don't believe in coincidence, so I truly believe that Brigid has sent certain people into my life for reasons. Peter and I share a rather unique friendship and enjoy each others company. Well, on this particular night, we were chating normally when I suddenly became very depressed and upset for no logical reason. I started to say some very cold things, and I quickly became hurtful and caused him to think I was telling him that I didn't want our friendship to continue. Rather than getting angry and disconnecting with me, he kept begging to know why I was saying such things. After a short time, it became obvious that I was having some difficulties. I had been busy at work and had forgotten to eat for two days. I am a diabetic (thankfully not one in need of insulin), and so is he. I was unable to find my glucose and my mood changed rapidly to panick. He made me log into the internet phone we use, and he talked to me and tried to calm me and keep me focused and conscious. When he felt that I was no longer responding appropriately to him, he went to his phone and called the hospital I work at. He explained to the nurse what was going on, trying to make her believe him. She got hold of the House Director who had an ambulance dipatched to my home. By the time Peter had told me of this, I had found something to take the place of my meds. He was afraid that I would be angry with him for calling, but he was scared to death! The ambulance was cancelled, and he stayed on the net phone until I had recovered enough to make it to bed.

Most people would have gotten angry and turned away. I don't know that many of my ICQ contacts (numbering 57) would have done that. Peter called the hospital in Michigan from the Netherlands!

One man thousands of miles away, saved the life of one person he will probably never meet in real life because of a selfless act of kindness. He acted with words...imagine how many lives we can touch every day with a simple word. He taught me how important our friends are, whether we know them or not. I have experienced many terrible things in my life, but gaining a treasured friend for life from a situation that started out so hurtful...that is Blessing at its best!

Remember your friends...they are more than the people you hang out with...more than just your circle or coven...they could be your life!

Thank You, Peter!

3 New Young Pagan Essays:

The Witches of tomorrow... Coming on strong TODAY! The WitchVox Young Pagan section is designed to work with and celebrate the unique needs of the Teen Witches of the World. We are proud to feature the writings the modern Teenage Witch. This month TWV is proud to feature the writings of 4 young Pagans....

"I'm a Witch! - How many teen Wiccans have wished that they could yell that at the top of their lungs without repercussion? I certainly have; to be able to come out of the broom closet and be done with all the secrecy would be so liberating. But at the moment only my family and close friends know that I'm a Witch and that's how it will stay. What is more important is to be able to say it to yourself. If you aren't comfortable enough to admit it to yourself, maybe you should reconsider your path." - Calandra Ravenshadow

Witches and their youngins'...

Our Pagan Parenting section is slowing coming back to life... The lioness's share of the credit goes to the beautiful Valeria Holtz... This week we feature a powerful article entitled "Myth and Nomenclature" Thank YOU Valeria for doing this work

"Just because somebody doesn't' like or understand the work 'witch' should be avoid teaching our religion to our children? The answer to that is a very loud 'NO!'. True Will transcends the ego. It is beyond the public consensus. It signifies the True Path, or the Personal Goal of each spirit. To deny the existence of the spirit, pure and immortal, would be to stifle that person's personal growth and developing understanding of Will. There are many ways to do this, but the only one that concerns us here is the potential for the denial of religious training as dictated by fear and in ignorance of Will" - Valeria Holtz

Visit our Pagan Parenting Pages for Valerie's latest article, a Book Review and some powerful links. If YOU are a Pagan Parent and would like to offer your magick to this section email us with your thoughts.

The WitchVox Spring cleansing ritual is now in progress!
contacts/events are in the process of being verified...

13,000 links/Update 3/21/99: We are thrilled that so many of you have decided to help build the powerful networking pages of TWV. Bless you for bringing this community together. Keeping our networking section accurate is another story all together (and one that is long overdue here at TWV). It is our mission to have the cleanest Pagan links and contacts pages on the Web.

Pagan Links at the Voice last Week (3/18/99) we emailed 2,043 WebSites to ask for verification of their listed data, to encourage updates and to kill those with dead email addresses, 90% of these have been already been modified or verified and 180 have been removed due to undeliverable mail.

Circles, Gatherings, Workshops and Events last Week (3/18/99) we also sent out Global Emails to verify all of the listings in our "ongoing events" sections. The TWV Events section is NOW clean and any discontinued "ongoing" events have been removed.

Witches' of the World Contact Names In the NEXT FEW WEEKS we will send out our "WitchVox Global Email for Spring" to over 10,000 folks that are listed on our State/Prov/Country pages. All "undeliverables" will be removed from our Witches' of the World Pages. We do this quarterly and history has told us to expect a 16.8% undeliverable return.

WHERE Did My listing go? If your listing is gone from our State/Prov/Country contacts, Events or Pagan Links pages, it is solely due to the fact that we sent you an email and got a "undeliverable address" response. Your listing is NOT gone but simply put on hold in our database until we hear from you. If this IS the case, kindly email us and make us aware of your new email address (with a reference to your listing). Do know that we can turn you back on with a click of the mouse.

The entire 347 page Witches of the World and Links sections are driven by a custom written Database System that has evolved over the past couple of years. Our WOTW pages are updated every 48 hours and are constantly being fine-tuned for accuracy... Check to see what's happening in YOUR state, province, or country today!

Last week's Features:

Well, based on the number of responses that TWV has received on one of this month's essay topics, we'd have to believe that either a LOT of pagans are tired of saying, "Really. It Ain't Like In The Movies! REALLY." or they are simply tired of shelling out $7.50 only to realize that Hollywood-yes, once again- has distorted their beliefs for the quick cash take. (Hope at least the popcorn was good.)

With the influx of new people interested in pagan paths, there are bound to be a lot of questions that will be raised about the true beliefs of Witches/Wiccans and pagans of all types. These fine pagan authors offer some of their ideas on how to field those inquiries and provide some practical tips for those who may be just beginning to seek out more information about earth-based religions and belief systems. Check out YOUR communities thoughts on It Ain't Like In The Movies!
