Jean Webb's Victory for All Religions!
It's Official Folks... Our net friend (who we got to meet at Heartland in May) and freedom fighter Jean Webb has won her case against the town of Republic, Mo. The following coverage from MSNBC news says it all...

"A citizen who sued Republic over a religious fish symbol on the city's seal has won her case in U.S. District Court. Judge Russell Clark ruled Friday that the city may not display the ichthus on its seal because it violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution." Click HERE (link updated thanks to L.V.) for the complete story.

New WitchVox Splash Page! Those of you that came in our front door today (www.witchvox.com) noticed a complete rewrite of our spash page. This was a long time coming and was done for several reasons. Our email indicates that many non-community folks visit this site. We have made the Witchcraft F.A.Q. more prominant and attempted to better explain what we do and why we do it. We do this for the curious and the media. It is still obvious that there are many that don't know much about massive movement generally reffered to as Neo Paganism.

We have also listed our indexes for quick reference and minimized the avatar and TPAO links for quicker loading. We've also moved our daily stats from this page to the new splash page and automated the update process. Expect to see new changes on the front end of WitchVox over the new several weeks. We love change, embrace evolution and will continue to work to keep this site interesting to all that visit.

A WitchVox Exclusive Interview with the Film's Directors!

This week we are proud to present an interview with Ed Sanchez and Dan Myrick, the young and talented directors of the Blair Witch Project. WitchVox media liaison Peg Aloi caught up with them a few weeks back and hit them with some pointed questions about this film and how it relates to Modern Witches. Click HERE for the entire interview.
Givers, Takers and the Pagan Web: This week a good portion (615 to be exact) of those listed as contacts on our Covens and Groups pages were spammed by a opportunist, seeking to promote an agenda. This person sent a mass mailing of some 25 pages of information via 5 pieces of email to email addresses that were obviously STOLEN directly from our Covens and Groups pages. We were both shocked and disappointed when we were made aware of this. We immediately sent off a "cease and desist" email, sent a detailed letter of our complaint to their service provider and emailed all 615 of these folks with our personal apology. This is our policy and it is clearly stated on all of the 600+ networking pages. We will do everything in our power to maintain the integrity of this section.

The aforementioned taker chose to hide behind...

    The Spammers Myth...

"Spam Law: Under Bill s.1618 TITLE III passed by the 105th U.S. Congress this letter cannot
be considered Spam as long as I include: CONTACT and REMOVE E-mail address
    "

Spammers quote this "Law" as a justification of their actions as 'not spam". This mentioned 'law" was NEVER a LAW. The Senate did pass anti-slamming legislation with included this amendment, but the house proposed different language and in either case, this amendment was NOT passed by the house or signed by the President. THIS IS NOT A FEDERAL LAW. Spammers continue to use this bogus "law" to intimidate you. The problem of spam -as well as it solutions- remains with the public sector. The best recourse is to both email the Spammers internet service provider and to write your congressman with your thoughts on the spamming of YOUR email box

Virginia Fights Back... Firing off UCE (unsolicited commercial email) through any ISP in Virginia can cost you some serious cash... Has anyone heard of America Online?

"As of July 1st., 1999, ISPs based in Virginia will be allowed to seek damages of $10 per e-mail message or $25,000 per day -- whichever is lesser -- plus attorney's fees from anyone who sends UCE to their customers. Individuals who receive unsolicited e-mail advertisements also can seek damages"

For the details on this law with the sharp teeth... Click Here

This week Wren and I have combined efforts to vent our frustration on the issues of Spam and Unsolicited Email. We offer info on things YOU can do to combat this obnoxious menace. Surf to the WitchVox Anti_Spam Page for our thoughts.

The July Jane's Tidings is now UP!: The Witches' Voice is once again priviledged to feature the latest installment of the fine reporting and gathering work of Jane from Maine. Wren and I have been honored to know Jane for more moons than we'd ever care admit to. Jane is a Witch and journalist who lives in Maine with four cats (black, of course). Feel free to send clippings, reports, updates, criticism and lavish praise to Jane, P.O. Box 64, Portland, ME 04112, or by simply E-Mailing her. Big News: Jane now has her own domain! Visit her at janeraeburn.com. Click HERE for the July Edition of Jane's Tidings. We love you Jane!

W.O.T.W. upgraded to 4.1 The feedback from last weeks major upgrade to our W.O.T.W. pages (See feature box below) has been most encouraging. Our WOTW pages have evolved into thousands of lines of complex code and updates/changes can sometime be quite the challenge. This week we did some more polishing and squashed a few bugs. Some changes include; Those not listed on our Countries pages have a listing on our new "other countries" page. Countries other than the US, Canada and Australia NOW have a graphic symbol for their area and the United Kingdom Pages now feature a beautiful flag to mark their spot (courtesy of 3dflags.com). Visit our Witches of the World pages to find the who, what, when and where of your Town.

Another MiSTing by Sylvan SilverNight: Wren and I have little time to watch TV. Keeping this website going consumes most of our life. We do have our little guilty pleasures though and Mystery Science Theatre 3,000 is one of our faves. We simply love Mike, Servo and Crow! Fans of the show have penned social comentary via the show's structure. What is MiSTing? Sylvan sez it best...

"For about five years now, there has been an online form of expression known as MiSTing. Derived from Mystery Science Theater 3000, this technique of poking fun at and mocking really bad fan-fiction, lame email advertisements and annoying rants has been taking off by leaps and bounds. While -at it's core- it basically entails creating a running dialogue and inserting it into already-produced internet tripe, it has traditionally been utilized to make fun of those things that -while intended to be serious- come across as only garbage in practice. Maybe it's not high art, but it eases the pain caused by such terrible articles as "Is America Becoming A Pagan Nation?". Social commentary and taking antagonistic nutcases down a peg or two has been a common theme of late and the amount of such MiSTings currently archived at Web Site Number Nine is phenomenal! This is refered to as MiSTing and has been a method of expression for a few years now. Over a thousand of them have been done by various writers. Sylvan has done nine of them and has already put DIBs on a couple more Wiccan-themed rants... (Including Bob Barr's press release.) Click HERE for Sylvan's MiSTing related to the "Pagan America" Article or check out the homepage for the MiSTings Archives (Web Site Number 9) .

Always in your service.
