Hammer of the Gods!

18 months Ago Wren and I moved our kitties and the Witches' Voice Org. from Boston, Mass to Clearwater, Florida (Tampa bay area). After 40 plus New England winters we were thrilled to be able to experience the tropics. The "bonus" was that we had moved to the thunder and lightening capital of the world. We LOVE this Magic!

The Tampa Bay area marks more lightening strikes than anywhere else on this planet. Incredible T&L shows happen daily (from Beltaine to Samhain) and no two storms are similar in any way. It is truly a sight to behold. T&L is serious business in this area (the number one cause of death in Florida) and is never taken lightly.

We have about a 5 minute warning, we quickly scramble to unplug just about everything in this house. Surge suppressors are useless against a "direct building hit" from a bolt of lightening. SO... if you see any delays at this end it is effected by the fact that we are "down" for two hours every night due to the Hammer of the Gods.

A Very Rough Week: Dramatic passages and transitions took place this past week. Mid-week we learned of a horrible accident in California that took the life of the wonderful Priestess Sandy Kopf and seriously injured her loving husband and Priest Doug Kopf (see details below on this page).

Just yesterday Gavin Bone emailed us with the bad news that Frank Dalton suffered a stroke at Starwood and was rushed to a local hospital. Frank and his lover Kate are famous for putting on the "Craftwise" Events of the East Coast in the U.S. and are good people as well. We are both shocked and saddened by these recent developments and will bring you updates as they come in. Wren and I have already started working our best healing magic.

Healers of the World are asked to join us in lighting a Candle and
Working your Best Magic for Frank Dalton and Doug Kopf.
- So Mote it be!

Passages update 7/20/99: Word has it that Frank Dalton has come out of surgery from a "Bleeding Stroke" and is resting peacefully. Doctors are apparently amazed at his progress. There is still much concern so keep the healing candle burning.

Today we received this sad piece of email from Metalligoth.

Grechon Leigh has recently passed away. He was the founder of SageTree, Inc., a powerful source of strength for the pagan community in Michigan. (Posted by Christine Potter on July 18, 1999 at 23:28:23): Services will be held for Grechon at Peterson's Funeral Home at 205 E. Cass Street in Cadillac, Michigan. For those who wish to attend the schedule is as follows: Monday visitation 7-9pm Tuesday afternoon (not sure but think 2-4pm) and 7-9pm Funeral service on Wednesday at 2pm For those who wish to send flowers to the funeral home, Paul's favorite flower was Lilly of the Valley. I believe cards can also be sent to his widow, Nadea Fuzi, in care of the funeral home. For more information visit

The big news of the weekend is the tragic disappearance of John F. Kennedy, Jr., his wife and sister in law while on route to Massachusetts. His plane is presumed down at sea and their friends and family anxiously await news of their final fate. The Kennedys of Massachusetts have been staunch supporters of not only First Amendment rights, but of minority and gay rights as well. Along with the rest of nation, we send them our prayers.

Joyous News: Yesterday we were also informed that Poetic (Laurie Birdsong) delivered her 6th baby, her 4th son, Thomas Bomba Dell, on July 14 (the day before her own birthday!), at 4:11 p.m. pacific time zone! he weighed 8 1/2 pounds, and is 20 inches tall! Bright Blessings to Poetic on this recent addition to the Birdsong clan

Dulcimers of Fury - Belladonna Bouquet: I scan all the submissions that come in for our links section but rarely see the sites themselves. The following submission caught my eye and I just had to check it out... "Formed by Sarada and Jenne on a lonely winter afternoon, Belladonna Bouquet had its beginnings with an effects box, several acoustic instruments and a love of the unusual. After all, how many bands have a mountain dulcimer and a valiha among their repertoire? Their music is an odd hybrid of dark folk, psychedelia and mythology. Both Sarada and Jenne (shown L-R in the image just above), and new member Kim, have been practicing Wiccans for quite a while. Belladonna is releasing a CD with orangeentrophy records in the near future, with another planned soon after. A word of warning: if you love rock music, drum kits and guitar riffs, you'll probably hate us!" For more info surf to the Belladonna Bouquet website.

Monster Upgrade to the WitchVox Pagan Links Pages: As we gear up to turn our Pagan links pages (2,600 detailed links) into a powerful Pagan Search engine, it has become necessary to execute a major re-write. The challenge is to re-categorize some 2,600 listings to better define the sites and their primary focus. A category like 1,200 USA crafted websites just isn't cutting it anymore.

New Categories include: Authors and Books, Personal Home pages, Regional Sites, Pagan Services, Original Pagan Crafts, Divination and Astrology sites, Poetry and many more. Version 4.0b4 is now up for your thoughts and suggestions. Look for continued changes in this critical section of the Witches Voice.

Teen Pagan Web Links: A few weeks back I asked the question "Can anyone guess what our number One most active links pages are? There were many guesses but only two nailed it. It's the Teen Pagan Links section. This page has grown out of control and two days ago was broken out into 5 separate pages. Surf to our newly revamped Pagan Links Pages to check out the magic of the Young Pagan WebCrafters of the World.

US Pagans Gear up to Vote their Conscience: Y2K will render many changes and a major US election is one of them. Many Pagans ARE politically aware. Thanks to recent "cheap shots" by the sinister element of Religious Right (mercifully a tiny minority - that is apparently on a mission of Hate), many Pagans have become quite aware of the impact of "choosing" whom they desire to represent them in the House, Senate, White House and local governmental positions. That said, one of our most respected allies, Charlayne Elizabeth Denney, has put together a Pagan Vote campaign that promises to push hard on this issue and the fact that YOU can make a difference. Wren and I are both registered voters and will be casting our vote this coming year. For more info surf to the Pagans Vote Website. The WLPA has also been working on this via their Bless the Vote campaign spearheaded by the beautiful and magical Christina. YOU really can make a difference.

WitchVox Spam Update: Like so many of you we are growing increasingly angry at unsolicited email. Last week we detailed an attack on our Covens and Groups pages. This inspired us to search out info on this pesky, disrespectful style of personal and commercial "marketing". What we uncovered was an angry mob that is massive in size. Percentage Estimates in the low 90's, show a furious Internet audience that is at its wit's end and willing to fight for laws to stop the takers that invade our privacy for the good of their agenda. Rumor has it that Australia may pass a serious anti-spam law this coming week.

WitchVox in 5 Languages? NOT!: My "experiment" using a language converter on the splash page of WitchVox this past week rendered spotty results while offering quirky amusement to many of our international brothers and sisters. It really seemed like a good idea (given the international traffic that we get) but this move was both hasty and premature. The Problem? Translation software just isn't what it's cracked up to be. The Solution? You can help. We'd like to translate our splash page and FAQ pages for starters. If you are fluent in Spanish, German, Italian or French we invite you to email us at for some simple guidelines. Your offer to do this will make thousands very happy.

Sandy Kopf resting safely in the arms of the Goddess
Devastating news was emailed to us from Melinda Kelly a couple of days ago. With her permission and that of other members of this group we sadly convey the following news (from Rhiannon)

In loving memory of Her Priestess, Sandy Kopf and in support of Doug Kopf, I am forwarding this to you. Our Beloved Priestess, Sandy Kopf, crossed over to the Loving Arms of the Goddess on July 11, 1999, as a result of a severe car accident. Her husband and Priest, Doug, is in intensive care in the hospital and will be there for several months. He has a broken vertebrae in his neck, several broken ribs and a damaged spleen. Because of the length of his expected stay in the hospital, he will be financially pressed and will need help to restart his life. Southern California Local Council (SCLC) Covenant of the Goddess has established a bank account/fund for Doug Kopf.

Anyone who wishes to contribute to this fund can send contributions to Garth Garrett, the Pursewarden of SCLC, at the following address: Garth Garrett, 1014 Toledo Street, Los Angeles, CA 90042. Contributions should be made payable to Covenant of the Goddess, and on the note line "for the Doug Kopf Fund." You may be assured that all of the contributions will be held in the account for Doug when he comes home.

There will be a public ritual on Sunday, July 25, at 1:00 pm at La Cresenta Park, Sandy's favorite park, in the Los Angeles/Glendale/Tujunga area. The ritual is being performed by the Southern California Local Council of CoG and the Coven Ashesh Hekat. Please bring food. Additionally, we are asking for copies of any pictures you have of Sandy. Please bring them. We will be preparing a picture album for Sandy's family.

If you are interested in attending this ritual, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RSVP to us at

This info was submitted to us by Rhiannon Apona and Shakti Ravensong (Acting Co-First Officers, SCLC) Email: Website: (Melinda)

The Witches' Voice extends our deepest regrets to Doug and the friends and family of Sandy Kopf. We will continue to bring you info on Doug's condition and events related to this tragedy. Updates will be posted at Wren's Nest.

Always in your service.
