The WitchVox Witches/Pagans of the World Pages have had a wonderful impact on networking over the past 29 months. Thousands of you have emailed us thanking us for the connections you have made (Our WOTW pages are just some of the many networking resources available on the Pagan Net). Numerous groups have formed, local circles and events are busier than ever and some of you have fallen in love. YOU have made this section what it is. (Thanks to Lilith Silverhair for the beautiful image to your right.)
For the first 24 months things went well, however in the past 6 weeks, the WOTW pages have been "harvested" for email addresses on four separate occasions by those looking to send you unsolicited mass email. We have spent countless hours fighting this in the name of "correct and for the good of all". We personally hate spam and find it both arrogant and disrespectful when someone puts us on lists whether we want on or not. (To clarify... YES we get unsolicited email all the time and this is fine. WHY? Because it is personal and directed to WitchVox or our staff).
The Four recent attacks and how they came down:
During one of our daily "porch chats" Wren and I realized that maybe our anger/frustration against Spam and that of a majority surveyed on the net may NOT be the same as that of the NeoPagan community. We simply realized that... We don't know. We do know that more and more of our time has been spent battling those that loot names from the WOTW pages for their announcements, promotions and lists. Should WE continue to fight this? If so we need your help. If not, we have time to spend on other things.
- An impatient opportunist chooses to ignore all warnings on our network pages (and our many ways to promote their agenda), simply takes as many email addresses as they desire, composes a "generic" piece of email (announcing their cause, email list, promotion etc), and sends out a mass emailing.
- Someone receives it, feels violated/spammed, and forwards us the UMM along with the header including all the email addresses involved. We do a comparison against our databases to quickly determine where "they" took the names from. We immediately contact the Spammer and ask that they cease and desist this activity. On two occasions WE sent out an email of apology to all of those affected.
- The Spammers reaction has been consistent: They state that they got some positive responses and will remove people from "their list" if they ask. They don't seem to care that they have angered people and usually state they have received almost no angry responses. Ironically we DO get angry responses at this end. (Less than 5% of those spammed email us to "let us know" and to ask if we can take care of it. The other 95% say nothing to us).
- Wren and I ARE nice people but are losing patience in our dealings with these takers. We have developed a "Don't want to hear it" attitude when communicating with these folks.
Bottom line? We don't know. This week we kick off a New section here at WitchVox... Its goal is to ask YOU to tell us how YOU feel. (CLICK ON THE BANNER BELOW and tell us what you think)

Young Pagan Essays...
- Who's the Boss? (August '99)
Only one person took this subject on. The question was: How do you balance the power, the responsibilities and the practice in the Craft to accommodate and honor both sexes?
- Magickal Mysteries (August '99)
We asked how you know what information you are told or read in a book is true? How do you know what to believe? Do you get confused sometimes and wish there was just one way to do things? Some thoughtful answers here. One article is a treatise on magickal working that we had to stretch a bit to fit in under this topic, but since it was information about magickal mysteries, and thoughtfully done, we decided to include it.

- Maturity vs. Age (August '99)
Should there be some standard age for magickal training, or should "maturity level" be considered? What are the ramifications if your parents don't agree with your choices?

New Teen/Parenting Section:
"How Do I Tell My Parents I'm a Witch/Pagan?":
Lots of teens have been asking us "What's the best way to tell my parents about my religion? Should I just stay silent, hide my books, wait 'til I'm 18? Do my parents have a right to dictate my religion? How can I tell them? *Should* I tell them?"
We'd like to get advice on this subject from teens and parents as well. Many teenagers have already told their non-Pagan parents about their beliefs, so...what's your advice to others?
And though most of the parents who will read this and respond are Pagan, you *are* parents, so let us know what you would tell a young Pagan who came to you and asked you these questions.
Well, should they tell or shouldn't they? Over to you, folks. Lots of people are awaiting your advice.
We will publish essays of between 1000 and 2000 words. Please include a short (one paragraph) bio, and send your essay to Diotima Deadline for essays is the Autumn Equinox.
Pagan Search/Links Sites on the Rise: Thanks to the magic of the Gossamer Search Engine (see article below on this page) many Pagans are adding powerful networking capabilities to their sites (and have been for the past 8 months) This past week we added this new category to our Pagan Links Pages. The WitchVox links section had a record number of new submissions in the past week. Click HERE to check out what's new on the Pagan Web.
A very Mellow Week at this end...: Although the week before was the busiest week we have ever seen, this past week was quite the opposite. Our best guess is that there were several factors that contributed to this; the waning of the Blair Witch Hype machine, a natural desire for healing from the Mercury turn-a-round/Eclipse and of course, the simple fact that its "back to school" for so many of you. This gave us the opportunity to put a serious dent in our unanswered email. Thank you for your patience in this area.
In closing allow us to THANK the many of you that have sent us your healing energy via the cyber, psychic and physical planes... Your magic has indeed had a dramatic effect on us. Our medical insurance stops at the end of this month so the second heart surgery will have to be scheduled before then. This will pull Fritz away from the site for anywhere from 3 to 5 days. So if you see a slow down at this end check Wren's Nest for the details.
Always in your service.
