| But, Will There Be Treats?|
Indeed! There are Always Treats!
Merri Meet Everyone,
It is that time again, dear friends. The Wheel of the Year draws near the points of change and introspection, beginnings and endings, Samhain and Beltaine (down under). Wren and I simply love this time of year and (no doubt) most of you do as well. To make room for the increased features this week at Witchvox we have "cleaned the slate" by moving Last weeks features/Articles off of this page. For PC surfers we have pushed the brightness of both the orange and green colors on this page (and the intro page) for a stonger Samhain look and feel.
Over the past four years and with your input we have built a strong Samhain section here at the Voice, and this year, with your help, we will continue to add to the cauldron. For the past two years the NeoPagan community has been in the press constantly. The Samhain (or Halloween) is still a strong time for both education and awareness. This year WitchVox will do its part to optimize this with our new "Reporters Info Kit"... Wren has compiled a powerful data page that includes; pointers to Wiccan, Witch and Pagan overviews, statistics, surveys, FAQ's and links to the community websites.
October is our busiest month here at WitchVox and at present we are on a pace to hit the 10 Million Pages viewed milestone on or around Samhain. Like most of you, by the time Samhain arrives we are in a state of sheer exhaustion. This year we plan on better pacing ourselves by doing fewer interviews and by making it easier for the press to get info from WitchVox. We will, once again point the press directly at you! Big time "Witch Hugs" go out to Tina Ann Coutu (creator of the powerful AvatarSearch.com) for helping us save critical time rendering our WOTW pages (with a piece or her perl code magic). Maintaining sanity is one our goals this October and bless you Tina for helping us kick this off in the right direction.
Like most of you we do plan on treating ourselves at Samhain. This year Wren and I have been invited to spend Samhain down on the Florida Keys. After that it's off to the awesome AutumnMeet festival in central Florida (see announcement below). We are thrilled that our media coordinator and good friend Peg Aloi will be joining us along with the Waterhawks, Velvet Hammer and Lasksmi and Toby. The pink directors chairs (multi-festival veterans) will live one last time to work their magic.
Samhain = Serious Magic Generally speaking, the NeoPagan community celebrates Samhain (commonly pronounced "SOW-in") as the end of the year (Pagan New Years). Many dress up as a projection of what they want to become in the new year. It's a time of celebration, magic, ritual, reflection and thanks. Many believe that this is optimal time for connecting with those that have passed through the veil during past year. They say this is when is the veil is in it's most transparent state. Powerful magic is done on Samhain and many groups and covens hold this time sacred.
Did someone say Treats? If you look, you will find them... they are everywhere!
Other October Events and Happenings....
Aligator Mating Call Specialist and Renowned Pagan Author
has launched her new book "Halloween".
"This is a way-cool book that gives you the truth about the origins of Halloween and explains the holiday's contemporary allure. This book is packed with historical information, spells, rituals, divination tricks, instructions on how to speak with the dead, and great food ideas for your next Samhain get-together. Definitely a seasonal treat! Chosen to lead Llewellyn's publicity campaign for the month of October".
For more information on this book and more visit Silver's Web Site.
Maxine Sanders to Make Rare Public Appearance: A Halloween treat for UK pagans in the London area. This October 17th, Maxine Sanders will be giving a lecture at the "Halloween Festival" in London, England. The Samhain Festival, which compliments their Beltane Bash, offers a warm welcome to all traditions. The two-day program features free entertainment, free Talks, and free workshops. For additional information surf to the "Halloween Festival" listing at the WitchVox UK Events Page.
South East/Florida Pagans Get Psyched!
In an effort to get away from these "pesky appliances" Wren and I are honored to, once again, attend the Autumnmeet Festival in early November just north of Tampa, Florida. Featured musical guest is the incredible Velvet Hammer (their first Florida performance). Note: If you can only get a way for a few days do know that day passes are available (see their website for details).
WitchVox Exclusive: This year we will be broadcasting Live from AutumnMeet via daily Reviews that will include interviews, photos and the latest news. So for those that you have never been to a festival, join us online for AutumnMeet Live (Nov 4th to Nov.7th). If you are planning on attending Autumnmeet we'd love to meet you. Stop over at the Waterhawks tent and say "Merri Meet"
Wiccan/Pagan Times features Triple Interviews
The Wiccan/Pagan Times is proud to present a triple shot of interviews for the month of October. In our Author's Corner section we are pleased to present one of the original movers and shakers of the Witchcraft movement almost 20 years ago. Marion Weinstein shared with us her ideas on Witchcraft as she began on this path and how it has changed over the years. Marion is the author of several Witchcraft books including Positive Magic and Earth Magic: A Dianic Book of Shadows. In our Ambient Visions music section we offer our talk with Robert Gass who many of you will know from his very popular chants, From the Goddess and May the Circle be Open. Last but far from least TWPT has the privilege of presenting an interview with Abby Willowroot in the Artist's Palette section of the site. Abby talks about the Goddess 2000 project and her wonderful website. Three interviews that are sure to heat up your October.
Next Week at WitchVox... A Hot New set of Essays by Pagan Teens.
"God" Billboards - Update Last week we featured a "God" billboard image here at WitchVox. Since then we've received numerous email better explaining this "trend" (from Lisa (BlackBlade) Lisa Ann Combest, email@example.com) A while back, I heard a radio piece on NPR about the billboards with "quotes" from God. The ad group responsible for them says that a wealthy individual who thinks that thoughtfulness about the creator is sorely lacking in our society funds them. They are meant to be nondenominational (although they tend to be Christian oriented) and to spur thought on the issue of the creator and our relationship to each other. The ad agency that is running the billboards is also ferociously protecting the identity of the person responsible. I have seen the signs in several markets, including Connecticut, Houston, Texas, and Montgomery, Alabama. AND from David (StudioDC@aol.com) From what I've read, a Ft. Lauderdale advertising agency launched a billboard campaign (including the inside and outside of buses) that included 17 different messages from God. An anonymous client sponsors their campaign. I know here in Texas they've been around for quite a while. I've seen them in Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. Check out this link God Billboards.

18 October Essays Up for Your Viewing Pleasure
"Instant Witch" inspired some wonderful and moving personal stories of paths found, and some very funny reminiscences of the pretentious behavior even well-intentioned new Witches can fall into to.
One of the essays is from a Pagan in Turkey. It seems that even in a country where you can't swirl your cape and layer on the pentagrams, the "Instant Witch" is alive and well!
The question of "Are All Gods one God and all Goddesses one Goddess?" brought, as expected, a wide variety of ideas on this subject, some of which would be shocking to many mainstream religions. Gods evolve? Heck, some folks can't even agree on whether or not we evolve! But, in true Pagan fashion, all this speculation about gods and goddesses is accompanied by an open-mindedness that respects others' views.
Important NOTE: Diotima asked us to note that she would **really** appreciate it if aspiring writers would read the editorial submission guidelines carefully before submitting an essay. We love hearing your ideas on these topics, but limitations on our time, and respect for our readers' time, demand that we publish only essays of at least 1000 words. Anything less is simply a comment, and we are looking for well-thought-out ideas. Also, it saves us a lot of preparation time when the essays are sent in the format suggested in the guidelines.
To those of you who did take the time to develop your ideas and write an essay, we give our sincere thanks. It's a real treat to be able to read and compare the thoughts of many different people in our community on questions that concern us all!

Wren and Fritz can't thank the beautiful Dio enough for the help that she has delivered to us by taking over and delivering the Monthly essays. She has been a gift from the Goddess and we are honored to work with her. Bless YOU Dio and heal quickly love.
New Festival Review: Gaea Goddess Gathering 1999 This week we received a wonderful review of this festival from Jackie Brown. "The Goddess blessed us with over 200 Women and Children in attendance from all walks of life. The Goddess also blessed us, with a very spiritual and soul building weekend". Surf over and check out her thoughts on Gaea Goddess Gathering 1999 .
The WitchVox surveys: What path do you Follow? What is the male/female percentage. How many of you are solitaire? Traditional? These are just a few of the questions ask in the WitchVox Community survey part #1. Our thanks go out to the 2.476 of you that filled out our new survey during its first 11 days. The first round results have been compiled and this week we present them to you... We will continue on with all of the surveys until the end of the year and do a final recalculation.
Your thoughts on "working with groups" were wonderful. Although it is impractical for us to put them all up, we have taken the first 300 and placed them, unedited, on 6 pages for your reading enjoyment. My favorite comment was related to someone that checked "other" in answer to the "what is your path" question... "Other: "Slacker Pagan" -- I'm a perpetual procrastinator... (Though I'm working on it...)" - ya gotta love an honest response like this.
- 1st Results: Posted on 9/27/99 - Click HERE for the actual results of this survey.
- Community thoughts on working with Groups... ONE - TWO - THREE - FOUR - FIVE - SIX
If you haven't participated... Please do so by clicking here. We will continue to collect data from this survey (and others) until the end of the year. The next new survey will be launched later this month and will focus on what the Pagan Web means to you, how you use it and what design techniques you like or dislike.
TripleMoon Witchware Declares October "Pagan Awareness Month" 'Round the Pagan Web there will be many Samhain celebrations. Worth noting is Triplemoon Witchware celebrating October as "Pagan Awareness Month"... Their challenge is for visitors to educate retailers who think that we all have green faces. Sort of community project concept for both on and offline. Visit the Triplemoon Witchware home page for more infomation.
In closing, allow us to remind you that local Events, Groups and Shops are posted on YOUR State or Country page. We update these pages daily with hundreds of NEW submissions. The real Samhain magic happens in YOUR town. Join your brothers and sisters in your community to educate the locals, the press and most of all... have a magical Samhain season and remember... it's never too early to start your Samhain Shopping.
So will there be Treats? YES! You can count on it!
Blessed be Well,
