October... A Month of Magic and Change

reetings Everyone,

Preparing your home for Samhain has to one of most enjoyable aspects of the season. As you can see from the image on the WitchVox Splash Page, we have some family members who are always more than willing to lend a helpful paw wrapping the willow branches with raffia bows, setting up the altar with the fruits of season-such as grapes, apples, and wheat-and sweeping out the corners of every room in preparation of the new year. (And we finally found all those lost catnip mice, too!)

We incorporate some basic 'feng shui' principles in our home whenever we redecorate to help keep the energies flowing smoothly. This year our entranceway -the place of 'helpful friends'- got a complete overhaul. A welcoming entrance invites friends and family to come on in and share the treasures you have discovered this past year and 'tidying up' creates space for new blessings to flow in.

The words, "Welcome to our Home. Here find Peace and Love wrapped in open arms." greets you as you enter our front door. All of us here at Witchvox wish for all of you a similar 'welcome with open arms' wherever you may be and all of the brightest blessings of the New Year!

Thanks Mom... "He's" a Beaut!

Just yesterday, Wren and I visited my parents to celebrate my father's 77th birthday. Because we will be away for Samhain, my mother decided to celebrate my birthday as well. One of the many treats I received is pictured just to your left.

You guessed it, it's the Grim Reaper himself! He exicutes a convincing version of "Great Balls of Fire" on command. His eyes flash, his head sways back and forth, AND his mouth moves along with the lyrics (well, sort of). Pretty cool huh? The real tragedy here is that the Chinese manufacturer couldn't or didn't get the licensing for "Monster Mash" (arguably the greatest song ever written).

Yes it's true folks, I was born on Samhain (1952) and one of its many advantages IS to get treats like this. No, my mother is not a Witch (she is a serious kitchen magician though) hence I am not "fam. trad.".

I do believe my mother's last "religious experience" was when I was thirteen and an altarboy for the Roman Catholic Church. On one famous October day in the Jung tradition (circa 1965), she went down to the local Church in Granby, Mass. called for the Priest and simply proclaimed "You're fired... you'll never see our family in this church again" (and they never did!). In many ways my destiny was set at that moment, I simply had to check out the REAL meaning of Halloween and here I am, some 34 years later, reliving this moment via a home page update on a "Witch Site".  So Mote It be!

Isaac Hits the Big 50:
Speaking of birthdays, on Oct. 1st, world famous Druid and author Isaac Bonewits, celebrated his 50th. Happy Birthday! Isaac has asked us to mirror his powerful "The Real Origins of Halloween 3.3.1". here at the Voice just in case someone "goes for it" and hacks his site, as was the case last year. He is encouraging others to do the same. This famous and in-depth article is now featured in our Samhain section for all to see. Thank you Isaac for what you have done and continue to do.

Early Samhain Interviews...
This week was a busy one for interviews here at WitchVox central. Wren and I did a wonderful radio interview with Akasha of "To Cool for Radio" up in Toronto this past Tuesday and it is scheduled to be broadcast live on the net this Samhain (more on this next week). Wren spoke with the Washington Times for an article on Samhain and she did an interview with "Soap Opera Weekly"... 'Tis the season.

WitchVox Press Page off to a Strong Start...
To our surprise, our Press Page (launched just last week) has garnered some interesting visitors. One of the most powerful statistical groups on the planet (Adherents.Com) emailed us to say hello and to inform us that they have just upped their estimate of the number of NeoPagans on the Planet to 1 Million (18th place). How many actual NeoPagans there are is a loosely educated guess at best. The more exciting variable is the explosive growth of this movement. This is something that WitchVox measures and we have given the Adherents folks some data to consider. The Adherents.Com site has always been fair in how they've treated our community and it is clear that we are worth "keeping an eye on". Thanks go out to Preston and the Adherents staff for the fine work they are doing.

Blessed Be and Meet me in DC Just 19 days Away:
The BBMMDC Event is quickly approaching and WitchVox is honored to bring you the latest news... As of this writing guest speakers include Isaac Bonewits Ellen Evert Hopman Nybor & Elspeth of Haven Bekki Shining Bearheart and Crow Swimsaway, Ph.D. Jane T. Sibley,Ph.D. Mz. Imani - Imani. This came in a few days ago from Feminist...

"Hey Fritz! {{*}} We've all been up to our collective ears getting last minute details out of the way. The big news in the past week is that Henninger Productions (www.henninger.com), a film production company that makes documentaries and such, is currently working on a documentary for Halloween for the Discovery Channels. They have approached us with the idea of including our event in their documentary... They've been researching us for over a year now and have talked with several of the BNPs involved. They'd like to film a ritual or two and do some interviews. We're working with them as we speak to get the final details ironed out, and are very excited about the opportunity! They hope to have it completed and on air around Halloween 2000". :-) B*B! Fem.

Visit the BBMMDC Main Site for the latest. BBMMDC fever is spreading and other states are doing a version of this in their major cities. Check out what they are doing in Detroit, Mi, Chicago, Il and now Des Moines, Iowa as well. Stay tuned to this page (and to your State Events Pages) for new info on BBMMDC and its sister events as they are posted.

Pagan Youth Speak Out!

Pagan Teens Rock the "Instant Witch" Topic

"Instant Witch" The teen pagans this month shared more than just the essay topic of "Instant Witch" - They demonstrated in their essays a level of maturity equal to that of the adults as they penned many thoughtful insights on the subject. Drawing from their own personal experiences, once again our future Elders have demonstrated that the future is indeed in good hands.

"Spelling Errors "Rather than practicing "light as a feather, stiff as a board', the serious teen pagans of today are thinking carefully and deeply about magick and spellwork. When is a spell appropriate and how would such workings affect themselves and others are questions that they are considering carefully. These are no 'Hollywood Teen Witches!'

Wren and Fritz can't thank the beautiful Dio enough for the help that she has delivered to us by taking over and delivering the Monthly essays. She has been a gift from the Goddess and we are honored to work with her. Bless YOU Dio and welcome home.

Catherine Hensel To Launch Powerful Pagan Lending Library

The Lending Heart - Pagan Community Library: "The library is currently preparing for its Samhain dedication and grand opening. We are trying to get the information to as many people as possible before that, so that book donations can be submitted and cataloged in time for the opening. This cooperative library has been created so that Pagan's from all over might have access to books and resources that are often hard to find or just plain too expensive. This library is based firmly on the principles of Perfect Love and Perfect Trust".

A VOICE IN THE FOREST,
Conversations with Alex Sanders

by Jimahl

(From their Website) "Alex Sanders, known in his lifetime as "King of the Witches" and the founder of the Alexandrian tradition of Wicca, passed away in 1988. There were undoubtedly many covens operating at the time of his death that traced their lineage directly back to Alex.". A Voice In The Forest is the incredible true story of the spirit of a man, known in his lifetime as the "King of the Witches", caught between the worlds and of a group of friends who race against time to fulfill a sacred trust.

For more information on this book and more visit Trident Productions.

As we get closer to the big day, we highly recommend that you keep an eye out on your state/country page for the absolute latest in Samhain event details. This week alone saw another 60 plus new events listed for Samhain from all over the world.

Take advantage of this seasonal change and embrace change in your home and always remember, "it's never too early to start your Samhain shopping"... For gift giving ideas check out the numerous online Pagan Shops and Original Artists sites in our Pagan Links Section AND visit your Local Witch/Metaphysical Shop.

Have a safe and balanced week everyone,

Wren Walker & Fritz Jung
