Introducing VoxSearch Version 2.0
This past week has been a most productive one here at Vox central and a busy one for the community as well. We had some very ambitious goals on the ol' white board and God(s) be praised, we achieved them all. This week I sequestered myself in our office for most of the week in order to "neglect chores" and work on some REAL search software for this site. Whilst in the process of creating dynamic new search capabilities for WitchVox I found myself amazed at some of the wonderful data found on this site. I spent half my time reading the powerful words that you have sent this way over the past four years. I have said to many of you in email that "I don't get out on the Web much"... It turns out I don't get out on this site much either. I was excited and proud of what I saw. Incredible work! Thank YOU for the powerful and rich content you've submitted
The Challenge: To create a site-wide search engine (sans Wren's Nest clips and the networking section) that was simple, fast and actually returned the results requested. We didn't want complicated search options but we DID want intelligent and useful results.
The Process: Rendering this search engine was trickier that I originally anticipated. This time we needed something that would spider all of our Articles, Essays, issues & concerns, WitchWars section and many others. None of this data was ever properly "databased" and this was where most of the work was. We had to pull all our pages into a local database, rip up and polish the data, script the keywords and results and finally, author a proper "automated" front end.
The Jewels: The "treats" were the jewels found in the data itself. As I scripted keywords and really looked at what has been posted here I found myself in state of constant fascination with the words from this wonderful community.
It's your data... For many of you, these are your words, and for many more of you these words speak both to you and for you. Witches, Wiccans and Pagans of the world, we are proud to present VoxSearch v2.0 for your data retrieval needs. Thank YOU for your patience with us over the past year... VoxSearch was long overdue, but is finally off the ground ‚ Take it for a ride and Enjoy! (Fritz Jung & Wren Walker)
NOTE: Thanks go out to those of you that emailed us compliments on the powerful search engine launched for Wren's Nest this past week. For those of you that haven't experienced this, surf over to the ' Nest and check it out.
Wren's Nest... Where the Action is!

The Pagan Federation Annual Conference
London, UK - November 20th. 1999
A WitchVox Review by Micca
"On a train from Victoria station at 09.30 on a Saturday morning there are a lot of people in black. They all get off at East Croydon and walk in the same direction out of the station, towards the Fairfield Halls. At the Halls there were lots more, many in black or black with colorful additions. Ah. It's the Pagan Federation Annual conference again.
About 1500-2000 Pagans from all over the UK turned up this year for the One-day Conference to hear the Talks, join the workshops or just to meet Old friends and make new ones. I know I spent a lot of time (between bouts of retail therapy at the great selection of craft stalls) just chatting with other Pagans, and since there was a Real Ale bar the conversation flowed quite well".
Visit our Festivals & Gatherings section for the complete review of Pagan Fed Conference'99. - Thank YOU Micca for your incredibly timely review of this important event.

Frequently Asked Questions about Witchcraft... Our FAQ page has been the number two hit page on this site since the day we went "on the air". It has become a powerful educational tool and was updated by Wren earlier this year. "The WitchVox FAQ's are offered to new seekers and the general public in an effort to dispel many of the myths of the Craft of the Wise. Witchcraft IS a legally recognized religion and has been since 1985. The ways of the Witch are defined in even more detail in various other pages on this Web site."
In the past few months some of you have translated it into several languages (thanks!). We now present this document in Spanish - Italian - Finnish and (NEW this week) now in Latvian.
Gender and Nature in Contemporary NeoPaganism is an in-depth look at the connections between the social/political movements of human rights, feminism and ecology and religion. Salamantis contends that the basic theology of Western monotheism has driven the ecological degradation we are currently dealing with, and cautions that Pagan thea/ology, too, has possible traps of bigotry and gender expectations we must be careful not to fall into. Check out... Gender and Nature in Contemporary NeoPaganism
Akasha's Samhain Internet Broadcast NOW Available
with Special Guests Fritz Jung & Wren Walker
Although we did many interviews in October, this one was the only one broadcast on the 'net. We have just heard that it has been archived and is available at the following URL http://www.spirituallyspeaking.net/episode7.html
Akasha was a fabulous host and we had a blast. The interview took place via phone in early October. This Witch had to switch from corporate mode on his lunch hour and that is always a challenge. Akasha has asked us back, so look for a more Witchvox quips and clowning live on the net in the future. We love you Akasha, thank you for what you are doing.
Cats of the Craft - Purr Magick!
Whilst constructing our latest search engine I was surprised to discover that our Cats of Witchcraft page was the #5 hit page of all time here at WitchVox. This past week we caught up with a backlog of new cat pictures sent in from the community. Check out our latest addition to this section The Cats of the Craft PAGE #6
Pharaoh, The Cat: Many kitties are treated like deity, the newborn pictured to your left is one creature already hailed as such. Although only 9 weeks old, Pharaoh has his own home page appropriately titled "Pharoah, the Cat (beautifully designed by his personal slave - Laren of Stella Australis).
"On this page you will find out everything you ever wanted to know about this lovable feline. But mostly you will find pictures! Hopefully, this gallery will grow over time to document the growth of the star of the site. We might even include some funny stories, which if the past few days are any indication, there will be many of. Pharaoh joined the family on the 12th of November 1999 at the age of 8 weeks. This photograph was taken on the 11/15/99."
- Hail Pharaoh, may our service to you be correct and for the good of only you. - We love our kitties!
A Little Research Dispels the Myths! This week, in America, we celebrate the holiday of thanksgiving. We sing of our "pilgrims' pride", but did the Pilgrims really have all that much to be proud of? The myth of the founding of America as a "Christian Nation" is constantly be touted by certain factions. They want to bring it back. The question is... Did it ever really exist? Let's join some modern day explorers as they set off to find that fabled land known as the "Christian Nation."- For the entire article Click here.
As you gather with your family and friends this Thursday for the "big feast" take a moment and give thanks for the wonderful life you really have. Since it is doubtful that anyone with a computer WILL be starving this week. - Share what you have with others. MAKE an effort and show *them* that we are truly different.
Always in your service,
Wren Walker & Fritz Jung
