|Time for New Beginnings!|
Greetings Sisters and Brothers,
Interesting times are just ahead of us. With every *new year* our society, in general, makes its resolutions. To us, ANY excuse to stop, reflect and project is a good one. Our Media Coordinator, Peg Aloi (AKA Albion Summerisle Morrison), has done just that with her new piece entitled "New Year's Resolutions for Witches: The Next Hundred Years".
"...In the season of winter, we journey inward; the dormant fields and darkened skies are reflected in our hearts and minds. This time is for reflection and a renewal of our magical and mortal selves. This time calls for strength, a vow to work for change within and without: seeds of change which, once chosen, we will sow, plant, tend, and reap with the harvest season, as the Wheel of the Year revolves and we turn with it. As witches, we allow the change of the seasons to affect our bodies, hearts and minds: to let the changing colors and smells and growth in the landscape speak to a part of us that understands beyond words. The solstice shift, from the dark and cold of winter into the warmth and light of spring, is one of the more powerful points on the wheel. We feel this moment of the sun's movement profoundly, and make a silent oath to go forward on a brighter path than before..." Click Here for more of this inspiring article.
Wren and I have been in deep reflection for weeks now. We have made some serious decisions about our future and that of The Witches' Voice. Fundamental plans include taking Witchvox to some new and exciting directions. We are still fleshing the details and will discuss these plans with the WitchVox sponsors via email in the next couple of weeks. If you are a sponsor of the Witches' Voice and have changed your email address, please send us an update so we can involve you in this communication.
Like many projects of the magnitude of TWV, a lack of funds and, more critically, a lack of time stifle our progress. For over three years we have battled the -time need/growth of the site- with technology. Our decision, from day one, was to celebrate the magic and empower the future of the Pagan community via powerful networking and the latest in Craft related news. The obvious challenge is that this is a VERY large movement and one that is growing at an "fantastic" rate. Smart technology is critical for us to move this forward.
We are in the final processes of rebuilding the Witchvox Website from scratch. This "major rewrite" that we have alluded to over the past few weeks is 80% completed. The results of this new technology will render powerful flexibility in making sweeping changes throughout the whole site and enable quicker and more accurate growth. Many of the changes will happen/are happening right before your eyes. For example, ALL footers have been updated site-wide in an effort to achieve more accurate and more consistent navigation. We have also added our search engines and details for the page itself to this update.
Check YOUR Bookmarks: Some of the WitchVox site structure has already changed (as recently as yesterday), so if you have bookmarks to our Teen and Adult essays, cats, holidays pages etc. PLEASE recheck them for accuracy. We are making every effort to hold the bookmarks for our Index/key pages.
Due to a backlog of email- and it being crunch time for present projects-we will keep this intro brief and send you off to the WitchVox website and the Pagan Web.
A Glorious Moon and Incredible Magic!
This past week the global community was all abuzz about the beauty and impact of a very special Solstice Moon. Fritz and I worked necessary and timely magic on the dock outside our apartment on this wonderful night. The air was a bit chilly for Florida, but I doubt we would elicit much sympathy from our good friends further north about that!
Dusky clouds brushed against Her silvery cheeks, as we turned our faces upwards to drink of Her majesty and power. Subdued by awe, yet energized in the moonlight, we lit our Solstice Flame and dedicated the candle to the future. We shall light it anew whenever we need inspiration for future projects or the wisdom to see them through to completion.
And then we gave thanks. Thanks for each other, thanks for all the blessings that we have shared this year and thanks to the Old Ones who always have been there to guide us. We have never hungered because They have always provided and we have never thirsted after knowledge that They have not sent the answer. We have much to be thankful indeed. And we are thankful also for the opportunitity to serve Them...and you.
As we cast our offerings into the lake which was now aglow with the reflection of Her lovely face, we were at peace with the Earth, the Old Ones and with whatever the future will send our way. Such peace we send to you, our friends! May peace and joy and the blessings of the Old Ones be with you always.
Speaking of the phases of the moon, thanks to Russell and Gary, we have our Luna page update for the year 2000. Check out one of our most popular pages... Attune YOUR Magick with the phases of the Moon.. The Witches' Voice is honored to thank Gary Reed for compiling the moon data for the year 2000... We are also honored to thank Russell O'Connor (Web Site) for compiling this data for 1998 AND for 1999. Thank YOU Russ and Gary for this rare and much appreciated effort. Suffer Not a Witch to Live
There is a persistent misconception in the Pagan community that the phrase in the Bible "Suffer not a witch to live" is a mistranslation of the original Hebrew; that the word actually means not "witch", but "poisoner". This claim doesn't hold up under scrutiny, as you will see in Paul Hume's inquiry into the meaning of the original Hebrew word "makesofha". But then, he goes onto say, why should we care? Elizabeth Siranda Abducted In Boston! Can YOU Help?
(This was just in forwarded to us from B.J. Doucet and is from Yamard)
"I have a request, this is my 15 year old daughter Elizabeth. She is missing and has been missing for 13 days today (is from Maine and was visiting a friend in BOSTON when she disappeared). I need to get her picture out to as many people as possible. She has been abducted and I do not know where she is."
"Her HAIR is NOW BLONDE and long, but the picture is very close to what she looks like now. Please help me here, I have reported her missing to the police and the missing kids website, she is in the NIC system and have sent her picture out to hundreds of people. But my resources have been exhausted and I'm afraid for my daughter. If you could pass this on, anyone seeing her can contact me at my e mail address (Yamard@aol.com) or simply call 911. Her name is Elizabeth Siranda."
Please say a prayer for her safe return. - Lilly a.k.a. Yamard.
125,000 Years is Not a Millennium! UPDATED 12/27/99
Although, this rant ruffled a few feathers, the author stands by his words (as he should). It's important to note that this piece was not originally composed as an essay, but was simply sent to us as a piece of personal email. We apologize for not noting this fact in our feature. In an effort to better flesh out Bev's thoughts, we offer his follow up to this article. Check out: 125,000 Years is Not a Millennium! for what we consider a powerful and thought provoking piece.
Pagan Author Gerina Dunwich turns the BIG 40
Ouch! THAT's gotta' hurt. The Pagan grapevine is all abuzz about Gerina's 40th birthday. Her website is at http://www.wicca.drak.net/dunwich and guess what? It has a guest book. Feel free to express your condolences to Gerina personally <grin>.
We thank you for allowing us to serve you over the past 3 years and look forward to a continuing partnership between all of us here at TWV and all of you in the various pagan communities and services. Happy Y2k Everyone!
Honored to be in your service,
