Daring to be Positive...

(Featured Articles Below)

Greetings Sisters and Brothers,

These past weeks have been ones of reflection and healing here at TWV. We do 'porch chats' to look back on the past year and to make decisions as to whether to sign on for another turn of the wheel... Wren has been disposed of late nursing our sick kitty Ruby... Ruby is fighting for her life (Liver Disease) and our home life is focused almost exclusively on saving her. It will be a long battle and one that offers Ruby a 50/50 shot at life. Ruby IS a creature of the light -- with that comes additional hope.

For the Record: The Witchvox model is one that consciously chooses TO (gasp!) embrace the light...

As many of you have noticed, 'The light' (or a positive mindset in general) is hardly fashionable in our society OR even in our own communities these days. Positive Pagans are typically referred to as 'Fluff bunnies'. These ARE dark times for sure, and although we certainly DO acknowledge the balance (of Light/Dark), we also believe that most of *this* really IS a choice. If we have learned anything over the years, it is that a positive approach is much more difficult (actually requires hard work) than a negative one. Gods know, it is much easier to simply bitch, belittle, or 'correct', and yes it CAN be a brief emotional 'hit' (for many), but frankly speaking it leaves us (personally) feeling empty. We walk away wondering what was gained or accomplished, surely there is more to life than just spinning/surviving the moment? It takes work to learn from the past and to plan for the future. If YOU don't, there are many that ARE more than willing to plan your future for you.

We have offered a substantial 'Positive' weekly update here at TWV, without fail, for years (305 times to be precise) and we'd be lying if we didn't concede that it HAS been a struggle. If it weren't FOR the hope projected and supplied by many of you we sure would have found a more lucrative and self-serving lifestyle a long time ago.

As we sit back and watch courtesy, ethical responsibility, social accountability, selflessness, honor and gratitude become both unfashionable and 'inconvenient' we really DO question whether this species is capable of evolving to higher levels. Five minutes of Headline News will reveal a world with the social maturity of 12th. Century. In fact very little has changed. Those that *must* tell you what is wrong with you, that YOU are invalid, or not up to snuff are growing in numbers and this IS happening right in our own communities as well. It is our belief that power given is NOT power lost. That too is becoming a unpopular opinion.

This month we take this time and this space to point you to the incredible networking resource that you've created. It was never about the web for us, but all about Pagans at the local level, meeting and working their magick face to face. Without a doubt, the web is the most dynamic platform FOR networking but other than that... it is quite flat and one-dimensional. If we can not look into your eyes, we will not claim to really know you or your agenda.

Enjoy the many features below, network with Pagans in your area, and stay abreast of the latest spiritual news, here at Witchvox and though out the Pagan Web.

May YOUR Day - -- and every day-- be an opportunity to focus beyond the needs of the self. Consider thanking someone that has been there for you, someone that has influenced you... NOT in your mind, but by actually making the effort to hunt them down, corner them, look them in the eyes and say .... Thank you! - Yes, I do realize that this IS the web... no one knows who you are or that you are reading this... you *could* simply click off to something of personal interest... That would be a much easier thing to do eh?

Thank YOU for your hope and inspiration!, with THAT you can change the world, without it the world will indeed change you.

Cramming It Down Our Throats...
by Wren Walker

"It's for your own good." At least that is what I tell Ruby each time that I have to cram more of the unpalatable gruel mixture down her throat. And since that little exercise in syringe-work occurs at three-hour intervals around the clock, she has heard me say the phrase a lot. I also tend to mutter it -- though more for my own benefit here than for hers -- as I jab the needle that will deliver the fluid therapy into the scruff of her neck or when I have to roust her at 3 a.m. for yet another fun-filled (NOT!) feeding.

It really is for her own good, of course. Without the fluids and the feedings, Ruby will die of starvation. Her liver functions are so impaired that she has no desire to eat or drink on her own. Feline fatty liver disease is a horrible thing to deal with. The only cure really is to force enough food into Ruby so that her liver finally gets the message that she is not starving. Only then will... [Full Article]

Bardic Circle at Witchvox: (Week 7 - The Magick continues...)

Update: TIn October we re-launched a wonderfully successful section here at twv, entitled 'Bardic Circle. A Bardic Circle, to those unfamiliar with the concept, is a gathering of the clan to share stories, magic and music. This is best done in person, 'round a bonfire. With the advent of mp3 files bringing "quality" audio to the net, we can now do a "Bardic Circle", right here in cyberspace. To listen to the MP3 files your pc will need to have an mp3 player installed. MP3 players can be found for FREE at sites like VersionTracker.com

This week we feature new performances: Santa Claus is Pagan, Too! by Emerald Rose and Cry (Wild Wind) AITI MAA

IF YOU are a Pagan Musician and want to participate by sharing one of your tunes and its story, kindly fill the Bardic Circle Submission form and email us a .jpg (150 pixels high/72 dpi) of yourself, your group or your CD cover. NOTE: Previous participants (from 2000 and 2001) ARE more than encouraged to submit a new tune.

Values
by Darragh Nagle

I'll start this discussion by stating for the record my own personal bias. I have followed a shamanistic path for 40 years. My opinions here reflect my views as such, and I do not expect everyone to agree with them.

With the Miss World contestants fleeing the violent protests in Nigeria (hundreds dead), and with the Iranian school's announcement that female students would be allowed to remove their face veils in the classroom as long as visual barriers are present to prevent males from taking "lavicious looks" at them, I wonder about the teachings of the various religions of the world concerning human sexuality and clothing, and how they might contribute to a safer and better world society... We Who Shall Inherit Ourselves
by Bethelaine Trimble (Ravenhart)

Over the course of the past decade or two, the giant surge of information on Paganism and Wicca, and Witchcraft in general has swelled to enormous proportions. Whereas I used to have to scratch pathetically through musty bookstores, or wait patiently for a dog-eared and battered single paperback copy of "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler at the library, or, if great luck would have it, borrow a book or two from some other fortunate soul who not only owned books, but might even know someone who knew someone who might have more; now I can walk into any mall, Barnes and Noble, Borders, Waldenbooks and find many different books in a wide range of topics, depths, and styles. I can surf the Internet and find information on anything I desire. Videos, DVD's, television documentaries, are all available to me like chocolates in a candy store. What do I want to pick today? What do I wish to learn? What path do I want to know more about? What do I want to know of our own history? The plethora of books and authors allow luxuries today that... [Full Article]

Kerr Cuhulain's "Witch Hunts - Exposing the Lies" - viewed times!

This week: Misdirected Cops

Earlier in this series I detailed the efforts of Larry Jones of the Boise PD to spread information about Satanic criminality to the public. Jones is just one of many police officers out there setting themselves up as experts to satisfy the demand from Christian congregations for information on the Satanic conspiracies that they've been told about. Many police officers have come forward to meet this demand. Unfortunately many of them are simply disseminating hysterical nonsense.

One of the most well known former police officers presenting himself as an "expert" on Satanism is Dale Griffis. Griffis served as a police officer for 26 years, retiring as a captain from the Tiffin (Ohio) PD. During the later part of his career he supervised a regional information sharing system, worked on mental health boards and worked with the local hospital lay board... [Full Article]

West Memphis 3 Update Nov. 2002
by Peg Aloi

The West Memphis Three: An Update Witchvox readers who have been with us since the early days know that one of the cases we have been following for years is the plight of the West Memphis Three. Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, Jr. were arrested and convicted of the murders of three eight-year old boys (Steven Branch, Michael Moore and Christopher Byers) in 1993. Echols is currently on Death Row and Baldwin and Misskelley are serving life sentences. Despite an almost total lack of evidence connecting them to the crimes, as well as many instances of investigative incompetence on the part of the police, blatant leaks of restricted information to the media (which promulgated rumors of cults in this overwhelmingly-Baptist--not to mention poor and u neducated--community), and questionable legal behavior on the part of the district attorneys and the judge, the three young men (teenagers at the time of the crimes) were found guilty... The Witches' Voice interview with Mara Leveritt
by Peg Aloi

Arkansas journalist Mara Leveritt covered the case of the West Memphis child murders from the beginning. At first shocked and horrified by these crimes (Leveritt is a parent herself), she gradually began to be amazed at the turn of events as the investigation and trial unfolded. Her articles covering the case in the early days were among the very few that questioned the practices of the police or the legal soundness of what took place. Years of research and writing have led Mara to produce an eye-opening new book Devil's Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three. Written in an accessible style, but thoroughly supported with extensive footnotes, this book is a must-read for anyone interested in the West Memphis Three.

I was fortunate to interview Mara and talk with her about her book and the case... [Full Article]
