Witch Cinema - December '03
by Peg Aloi

Thanks!

In the spirit of the season, I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has sent me a media tip, comment, compliment or question over the years. YOU, Dear Reader, have helped me to keep up with media trends, have alerted me to portrayals of witchcraft or paganism in films and TV that were positive or negative, and have made being your Media Coordinator a pleasure over the years. Keep those emails coming!

As we gear up for a busy holiday season, this is a short but sweet column to just help us get in the mindset for all the wonders to come... In the next few weeks, we'll get the next installment of the wonderful Harry Potter films. If the third one is as much of an improvement on the second, as the second was on... [Full Article]

In Memorium: Ziggy
by Peg Aloi

In a year full of loss, another dear one passes...

Sadly, this week I bid farewell to one of my dearest friends and companions, one of the finest cats that ever lived: Ziggy. This handsome grey and white cat with a distinguished pink nose was known by many nicknames in his 16-plus years, including Ziggy-boo, Zig-ma-roo, Ziggledy-Wiggledy, The Zig-Meister, Uncle Ziggy, General Ziggy, and Hey Buddy. He was a great lover of the outdoors and loved to go a-wandering; in fact, on several occasions in his younger years when he lived in western Massachusetts, his wanderings led to his being adopted temporarily by new owners!... New Tradition Profile...

RavenMyst Circle

Composed by: LadyHawke, the Mythmaker

At Yule, 2001, four Elders and one Third Degree High Priestess were called to serve the community in a very different way. They collectively made the decision to forge a new path for themselves, their respective covens and their students. Thus RavenMyst Circle was born.

Raven is a totem honored by each of the founding covens, including our largest one. And "Myst" is for the mysteries we would be exploring, the mists that separate the mundane world from the spiritual one, the mists and fog that are "in between" places, being in between air and water, and therefore places of great power, and the mystics of the ages, whose wisdom we embrace... A Frugal Yule
by Calliope Hellice

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening? Blah blah blah, snow is glistening....

The Christmas carols are being played, the mall is decorated with boughs and red bows and evergreen trees. There's snow softly falling....

Hang on a second - where's the snow? For Christmas in Canada, there's not much snow.

Oh, that's right! It's only November first.

The day after Hallowe'en (Samhain, to us Pagans), is the day that the malls in my area begin their Holiday rush. Decorations, sales, carols and Santa get people in the shopping mood earlier and earlier every year. Luckily, I have the majority of my Holiday shopping and gift making already done. Every year I seem to spend less and less. Why is that? No - I don't keep marking people off my Holiday gift-giving list. I just get more and more creative every year... [Full Article]

Rights and Perceptions
by Beňlach Lasair

It's strange. When I first thought about the title, "Rights and Perceptions," I immediately thought that it should be focused on rights. But then, aren't perceptions more important? I mean, it's not all too often I've experienced someone actively trying to deny me my rights, but everyone will have to come up against someone's perceptions of them based upon what box they can most easily be fitted in.

Take this example: I attend a Catholic Sixth Form college, which has a very diverse population especially for a very Catholicism-centred institution. So one day, while walking around the college grounds, talking to my also-Pagan friend about the upcoming Samhain celebrations, another of my friends overheard our conversation. After a short discussion of what exactly Samhain was, she turned around to me and very bluntly asked "So you're a Pagan then?" More of a statement than a question I suppose. I answered yes, and she immediately said, "You... [Full Article]

Press Release - December 1st. 2003

Robin RenŽe Rocks Open 'The Gate'!
by Donna Juzva
Email: djuzva@yahoo.com

On Sunday, November 23, Gaia's Gate flung open to welcome the fabulous Robin RenŽe for a very special performance.

Celebrated Singer/songwriter Robin RenŽe graced the stage with a wonderful heartfelt performance. Her soulful style and warm charm captivated the audience as she sang and chanted original tunes from her latest CD, All Six Senses. Robin rounded out her performance by adding songs from her first CD In Progress and she treated the audience to a preview, performing a couple of her lovely, not yet released, songs.

Complemented by her acoustic guitar playing, Robin's melodic voice held the crowd spellbound. Her presentation was further enhanced by the participation of a very moved audience, who chimed in, voices ringing, as the rocker sang 'Chant' from her current CD. Robin's sweet voice and soulful melodies, so enchanted the audience, that some attendees spontaneously joined in drumming and dancing... [Full Article]

Believe In It, It Does Not Exist
by Lunar Tempest

I think I am going to get a reputation from my articles soon. My last was a rant, and this one...well it's not exactly a rant; however it is a big question. I have to write about things that are on my mind and things I am, by my nature, meant to question. This is a lot more exotic as Pagan articles go. So here we go...

There seem to be two completely conflicting point of views among Pagans at the moment. It's ironic really. In some ways it is a sign of ignorance about the way we think. I don't know exactly where this all started but I can tell you this: somewhere along the line, we have made up our own dogma.

Now, I know I've already got a few angry faces out there yelling at the screen. "Pagans don't have dogma! Don't be stupid!" But it has occurred to me, that... [Full Article]

Conversations With Dead People
by Lunar Tempest

Standing in a field of poppies, he looked upwards to the moon. She hangs full and pregnant in the dark night sky, surrounded by the twinkling stars. It is a warm summer's night and a warm breeze is moving slowly over him. An owl hoots, a thin mist rolls in. He is alone. Or is he...? Adjusting his hearing, he detects subtle voices carried on the night air.

They whisper to him, telling him their stories and surrounding him with love. These are the echoes of life, the long distant voices of the past. They are here to talk to him. Some ask favours, some tell him how proud they are, some sing their happiness, and some even weep with sorrow.

The past is never as far from the present as it seems. On reflection, where is the past? Or when is it? Right next door to the present. We are always moving through time, shifting automatically through... [Full Article]
