Colemond Todd Constable
Today we received sketchy (and devastating) news that South Carolina Pagan and long time Witchvox supporter Colemond Constable (Solstice CUUPs Charleston, SC) has apparently passed over...
In an email statement by Doireann [SOLSTICE board member] we learn more...
"Colemond Todd Constable departed this life March 2nd, 2004. He was a healer, a poet and a friend. He was a leader in the pagan community in a time and place when being Pagan was not easy. He set many things in motion, some of which we will never know about, that will continue to grow and honor his life. We ask that you remember with us the joyous times of his life. He is spirit now... he is one with the mystery." [... more info]
The Witchvox staff offers our deepest regrets to the family and friends of a man who clearly believed in this community and spent years serving us all with his tireless efforts. -- May his memory never fade.
Thanks From Isaac: Famed Pagan Author Isaac Bonewits's situation has improved substantially, thanks to help from many in the community - Just tonight he updated his post offering the latest details.
Virus Alert: A nasty email virus is going around that is claiming to be sent from email@example.com - This 'sender' is a spoof (that isn't one of OUR real email addresses) and is typical of the behavior of the 'W32.Beagle.J@mm' worm [details]... We post this as a reminder to make sure YOUR virus protection software is up to date. and to clarify that we are not sending this email.
Janet & Gavin!
Wow!, you know that Pagans are famous when folks know them by their first names... This week we are honored to celebrate the latest book release by Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone... Already causing a stir, Progressive Witchcraft [see book profile] has hit the shelves and we are honored to note that we have read it and loved it!.
Our thoughts are expressed on page three of the book...
"Drawing upon their combined decades of personal and professional experiences, Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone take us on a journey through the past histories and present incarnations of Witchcraft. But as the true pioneers that they are, they then forge ahead -- taking us with them -- into a future where Witchcraft is both an evolutionary and revolutionary spiritual force that can change the world.
The key to the future of Witchcraft may indeed lie in its past. But as Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone point out with much wit and wisdom in "Progressive Witchcraft", this might not be exactly the same version of "the past" that you were taught!
What Witchcraft was is not as important as what it will be. As Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone take us through and then beyond the controversies surrounding our Witchcraft/Wiccan roots, an truly evolutionary vision of the future begins to unfold.". - The Witches' Voice
Janet and Gavin are wonderfully grounded and maintain a fab sense of humor. We love you both and thank you for the magick that you continue to share with us all.

Pagan Art & Artists
(painting by Georgia Jung)
One of the many 'must do' projects on our 'white board' is the creation of a proper section for Pagan Art and Artists. - Due to a wonderful new code foundation (12/03) this may become a reality sooner rather than later. A crude shell has been put in place and this week we are honored to offer a nice 3 part article on how YOU can create your own statues. - Patrick T. Ryan has done a fab job offering up a 'step by step' article on this topic. Here are a few snips...
"Shortly after I started 'pon the Northern Path, my mind turned to images. Just as I have, you've probably poked around on the Web and in stores. There isn't much in the way of variety out there for those on the Northern Path. Plus, each image is about $35-$45. So hokey-smoke! That's a chunkola of change to get all the major players, right?! Damn straight! You hit that puck in the goal! Plus, there aren't a lot of deities who are represented from ancient times. ... But what's that, you say? You don't have any artistic ability? ... Yes, you too can make your own deity statues and figurines..." [Full Article]
Thank YOU Patrick for this wonderful piece for the 'rest of us'
Plans for the new Art section include; full integration with your Witchvox Account (so you can easily add scans of YOUR orginal art), powerful links to the artist's web presence, gallery features, Witchvox front page celebration of the new posts and much much more. - Time permitting, rapid development of this new section should commence this very week and be completed by the end of march - Look for more details on this as they develope.

|New ESSAY TOPIC!|
Pure and Not So Simple
Most religions, including many Pagan traditions, have holidays, rituals and/or techniques devoted to the idea of purification. It is a universal concept, but often not particularly well thought out or well understood. So we ask for your thoughts on one or all of these questions: What does purification mean to you? What makes something, or someone, pure or impure? What happens to the matter or energy that is purified? Finally, what rituals and techniques do you use to purify, and in what circumstances do you use them?
The deadline for this topic is March 20th. 2004., but we will post the essays as we receive them. Please keep in mind that we will not post responses to previously posted essays.
Your voice counts! Please consider adding your thoughts to this collection of essays and join in the exchange of ideas throughout the worldwide Pagan community.
Any thoughtful essays of over 1,000 words will be published. Please read our editorial guidelines first, and send your essay to Diotima
Purification: What is it? How Does it Work?
Many Pagans use purification rites before entering rituals or sacred spaces. A magician may asperge herself with an herbal mixture before entering the magick circle. A shaman may dive into a cold spring before journeying to meet the spirits. A Wiccan may fast before initiation. What is the point of such purification? How does purification work? What are some obstacles to purity? What are the implications of holding views of objective purity? These are the questions I'll engage in this essay.
What is the Point?
First, what is the point of purification? Purification aims to make ready: the magician is readied to enter the circle, the shaman to meet the spirits, and the Wiccan to undergo initiation. In a word, my concept of purity is readiness. The function of a purification rite is to make yourself or something ready for what is about to happen next. Since Pagan experience often... A Witch's Guide to Starting Out In the Craft
by Morgan Willowmoon
As I was trying to navigate the road of Witchcraft, I came across websites that claimed to make my search for the perfect magickal name easier, suggested essential tools for my cabinet, and said I could write whatever I wanted in my Book of Shadows. The overwhelming number of vague possibilities left me confused, frustrated and drained. The intention of this essay is to guide you in choosing your personal pantheon, magickal name/tools and starting your Book of Shadows. If you feel you don't need any of these things and are comfortable with your current practice, that's great! For the rest of you, here is my advice... [Full Article]
