 The Politics Of Doubt, Skepticism
 [2,698 reads]
Most Americans don't know that in a 1797 treaty, President John Adams declared, "the Government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." One might expect such a declaration from Thomas Jefferson, a noted skeptic regarding religion and faith, but it was Adams, the more conventional Christian, who signed the Treaty with Tripoli. He later wrote to Jefferson that laws against religious doubt would be "great obstructions to the improvement of the... [Read More] - (2) - [Add Your Thoughts]

Pagan Music: We are always thrilled to feature new music by Gaia Constort (see Bardic Circle just below) - Featured is a live version of the title track from their April 2004 release Evolve. In our not so humble opinion, Evolve was one of the best musical releases we've experienced this year. - Thank YOU Chris, Sue and friends for making music that is thought-provoking, energetic, magickal and most importantly... Interesting!
Pagans and Politics: Prior to the election we asked registered US voters whom you were going to vote for... Although George Bush scored 17.7% in our Pagan poll, the majority of Americans voted for him on Nov. 2nd. The day after the election we posted this news on Wren's Nest. That reality inspired a record number of views and comments... This week we feature three new essays, written pre and post election. Scroll down to experience the thoughts by Runewolf, Dana Corby and John L Robinson.

Evolve - by Gaia Consort [Impressions: 6,338]
This is a live version of the title tune of our latest release, Evolve. Evolve is about incorporating our EMOTIONAL connection to our evolution into our lives. Life teaches life, evolution is a process of passing information down through the generations, both the evolution of conciousness, and bioliogical evolution through the DNA. One could argue that the difference is slight - living things and our thoughts are all "biological" but both are certainly vastly important to the survival ... (Go To Performance)

Pagans and Politics
Grey Magic: Back to the Broom Closet? by RuneWolf
The elections are over, and it would seem that many Pagans feel that we are now on the verge of a new Dark Age, if not a wholesale return to the Burning Times. Many would have us believe that, in four short years, we will see the end of free elections, the establishment of a Fundamentalist/Dominionist theocracy in America, and that all religions - including many Christian sects - not approved of by the Fundy/Dommies will be outlawed, and their adherents hunted down and "dealt with."
I hope, I trust, I pray that enough remains of the true American Spirit that such a state of affairs will not come to pass. But if we have learned anything in this century and the last, it is that political upheaval can be sudden, drastic and complete. So as much as I would like to stick my head in the sand and say, I'll worry about that later, I have to at least consider the worst-case scenario... [Full Article]
The Truth Behind the 2004 Elections by Dana Corby
As a Pagan, what issues affect how you're going to vote in the upcoming election?
Environmental issues? Irrelevant. Gun rights? Irrelevant. Charter schools? Irrelevant. Taxes? Irrelevant. The war in the Middle East? Relevant, because the invasion of Iraq is an expression of Christian Dominionism. And Dominionism, a phrase you may never have heard before, is the only real issue at stake.
The current administration are Dominionists TO A MAN - they believe their God is requiring them to outlaw or destroy every religion on earth except their own particular brand of paranoid millenialist Christianity. If we do not get them out of office NOW, in another few years Paganism, along with Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Mormonism, Catholicism and the Boy Scouts, will be illegal...' [Full Article]
Why I Am a Pagan Anarchist by John L Robinson
I am a Pagan. And, I am an anarchist. I will not be voting this November 2nd. I will, if I can help it, never vote in a government election (or referendum, etc.) again. I have come to the conclusion that government is worse than being in need of reform, is worse than useless, and is in fact actively hostile to the mental, physical, and spiritual well-being of humanity, and should be actively opposed. This position is influenced by my being a Pagan.
I came to anarchism around the same time and place I came to Paganism: college. Growing up, I was for the most part an indifferent Christian, with occasional spurts of piety (usually before the odd sporting event). When I thought about political matters, I thought up schemes that would get the government to run more efficiently, so it could help people better... [Full Article]
A Concise Guide to Wiccan and Neo-Pagan Paths and Traditions
 Which Witch is Which?
 Author: Patricia Telesco

Once you decide that Witchcraft is the path you wish to pursue, there are many questions still to be answered. In the first section of Which Witch Is Which? The second question is answered in the more extensive second section of the book: Which Wiccan or Pagan tradition (if any) is for you? Which Witch Is Which? gives you the detailed background of the most popula ... [Full Book Profile] [Author's Website]
A Coven Commitment by Lady Abigail
Ravensgrove Coven has received many questions requesting information and advice on how someone could get a Coven started. We hope that this might be of some help to you and that you are blessed in your endeavors. Whenever there is a hope and desire for starting a Coven there must also be an understanding of and commitment to the difficult work ahead.
A Coven must be a place where members can stand as a cohesive group brought together by their shared belief that within understanding all things are possible, as they learn and expand themselves within the universe, beliefs, life and magick.
"Ravensgrove Coven" is a Coven made up of solitary Witches. Each member bringing their own unique skills and understanding to a new and eclectic gathering of Witches, allowing all of us our own personal freedoms within the Craft and yet to be a part of a working, learning and growing Coven...
