Norm died in his sleep at 3:22 pm on Monday afternoon on the 20th November 2006. He suffered no pain and was perfectly at peace as he steeped of this mortal coil we call life. He has asked that no flowers or gifts be sent to the pagan home - all such are to be given to Hospice, who took care of us so well.
His requiem is to take place at 3 pm om the 9th December 2006 and all are welcome to attend.
Born Norman Guido Geldenhuys, in the year 1948 on the 21st July, he had a natural charisma and leadership abilities that have not been seen in this country in Paganism before. His wisdom and knowledge was great and his greatest asset was his willingness and skill at handling the politics and spite that humans, Pagans included, are so often prone to.
He became president of the PFSA in 1999 and has been unanimously re-elected twice, thus becoming the longest serving President of the Pagan Federation of South Africa since it's inception. His was a full 7 years of selfless service. He leaves three children, five grandchildren, four siblings, two covens and a wife behind.
During all the years of his Presidency, I served as National Secretary and was as you know, the 'strong woman behind the man'. I was elected president at Beltane 2006 and was to be officially 'introduced' with all the correct protocols directly afterwards. Fate and death decided otherwise.
Mynie Geldenhuys, the widow of Norm Geldenhuys
Over many years, I grew to know and respect Norman's great intellect and never faltering wit. Few people loom as large in any community, but he will loom large in the hearts and spirits of we who knew him for as long as memory functions.
Norm used to joke about running to the dynamite shed when he made comments he knew would stir people up...which were many and welcomed. This was his final trip. Journey well, my brother.
