A few days ago Witchvox posted some of my words involving a friend, JP, who was dying. It was posted on the day that he did cross-over. The e-mails that I have received in light of that article, has been, for me, overwhelming. But a good overwhelming. But its interesting that here was a man, a beautiful spirit, that very few of the community of Witchvox knows. Wish they did know him, but most did not.
Was he in the Pagan community for 20-30 years?... No... he came into the community just when he should have.
Was he a big time Pagan author?... .No... .although I think I did see him write down a tasteless joke once.
Did he do wondrous rituals and ceremonies for the community?....not really, unless you count him getting ready for the showers with his leopard print bathrobe and leather shaving kit and fuzzy slippers, and that was a ritual all unto itself( and yes, he did hold the focus of people when he did that).
Did he hold workshops and councils for the community?....no... unless you count sitting in his space during Starwood in the morning watching people walk by and guessing which had sex the night before and what category to place them in. (oh, now the secrets out).
Did he have Mother Teresa aspects for the people... well....not really, although he cared for the community unlike most did, so maybe he did and I didn't recognize him for he would have been the best dressed nun I would have ever seen. So did he lead rites of passages for the younger ones....not in the sense we look at, but he did steal a pair of pants from a young man during his loss of virginity, and place them on a pole for all to see... and to be there to video tape those most embarrassing moments that we sometimes have during festival times (does anyone know where those tapes are by chance?). I guess that's a rite of passage.
So if he wasn't a big nosed pagan, then why all the brouhaha about him to the hundreds of thousands of pagans that are going to read about him... .. Wellllllll...I'm, real glad you are asking that, 'cause I'm gonna tell you... ..the big deal about JP was.
HE WAS REAL
I don't mean kinda, sort of, maybe, a bit, pseudo, getting there, just about, the best he could, a little, I think so, probably, if you say so,....real... .I mean R...E...A...L. He walked with a pride of being a part of the "ALL", and he did it without false Passion, false Intentions, false spirit. If you ask him a question, his answer would be real. All the time. You could count on it, just as you can count on the Sun coming up each day. If he said you were beautiful...then you knew you were. If he said you were an assh*le, then you had better practice puckering up. He was the type of friend that made you feel secure in knowing he was on this planet, in knowing that he would be there, without question...and not just to me and a few, JP touched many, and gave this security to those many. I trust that "Grandfather" will allow me just 10% of the being that this man was, before I go Shining. He taught us how we could be, without saying we should be...! When you were around him you could laugh, without looking around first. (think about that). If there was something you needed, some how, he would find it, know where to find it, or send you on your way to find it....and I'm talking about anything. Now we all have a friend(s) that have some of these aspects, but I am talking about a person who has many. We seek so many like him, but find so few. Thus he was a teacher... a healer....a shaman... .a magician... but was a real one... .really!
But he is gone from his humanness now. He has flown with the Great Heron to the other side. He and "Grandfather", will make a good team, as they now look together at our circles. His 33 years on this planet was good. Simply put... .it was good. It was so good, that memories of that 33 year old man, will last far more than 33 years. JP has earned the right to have these things said about him. He has earned the right to walk in this brightness of our memories with not only the people that he knew and those that knew him, but he has earned the right to stand in the brightness in all the world. And to be talked about amongst the tribe of "ALL".
So I ask, each person reading this, to think about JP, and even if you didn't know him, think about the "JP's" that you know, have known, or are going to meet. Do not wait till they have gone shining to give them Honor, Respect and Gratitude. Give it to them now, because I want all of us to grow up and be just a little bit, if not a lot, like the rest of the JP's in the world. I want us to be REAL
I am proud to be a part of the JP's around the world... ..Nyeh Weh!

On Thursday, 13 March 2003, JP (age 33) passed over to the other side. Yesterday Peg Aloi and Berta Daniels drove to New Jersey to visit with JP. They did get to spend some time with him yesterday and again this morning... JP passed on early this afternoon. Wren received the sad news from Peg via cell phone a few hours later. Peg and others will offer their remembrances in the next couple of days. We will bring you more details as they come in.
The following is from a post by Don Waterhawk that was sent out to JP's many friends the day before he passed (3/12/2003).
I have a friend... a good friend... a good person... no, a wonderful person. One of those people that if they were sitting with a plate on their lap eating dinner, and happened to see you wondering where to put up a pavilion at a fest, would stop eating and ask if they could help. The type of friend, who if at anytime was unsure of your feelings, would ask how you are doing, and would want to truly know. The type of friend that would always have what you needed, even if it was a type of tent peg only meant for sandy areas, this friend would have it. The type of friend, that no matter what, no matter where, would be there for you, all you would have to do is call.. The type of friend, that could always make you smile, even in your most depressed mood. The type of friend that you know that no matter what, you could always depend on. We all have at least one of these types of friends, and if we don't, we wish we could have. Well... I have one of these friends... ..and he is dying....right now, as I type. And unless a miracle happens, he will be gone.
He is one of a hundred million, and I do not expect him to be replaced by someone else, nor do I want him to be. I have prayed for him, I have worked my magic for him, and have talked to Grandfather about him... and I guess I have not done enough. A few weeks ago I kayaked down the Orange River with him when he was visiting. At one point we were surrounded by Manatees circling our kayaks, playing with us. It was so much fun to see the expression of joy on my friends face... I see it now. I will always see that smile now...I will cherish it forever. He was dying then, he just didn't tell anyone, maybe he just didn't know the extent of what was happening, I don't know. But today he is lying inside a hospital, in an intensive care unit, and it does not look good for him... my friend... my memory vision of that wonderful smile friend. He wanted no one to know, but a handful of friends, he didn't want to burden anyone... he didn't want anyone to go out of their way to help him... like he would have if anyone was in need.
So today, and tomorrow, and the next... I am not going to think about the crappy war that our little boy king wants to have, I'm not going to think about the people that may be killed, the worlds problems, the political mess our so called leaders have given us, I'm not going to think about my personal troubles and the bullsh*t in my life that hinders my path. No..I am going to think about my FRIEND... because he deserves it... he earned it... and I am going to open my heart, my Medicine, my Magic, and give it all to him... because its important to know that he feels it.
So if you have one of these Friends... you call him or her right now. And you pour out your heart to them of your feelings for them... because I'll tell you all, sh*t happens...and time runs out... and then its too late... I know... I have a friend...
I gotta go now, I can't see the computer screen anymore....I am crying to much... .it hurts!
I love you JP
