"First I would like to thank Wren Fritz and everyone else at TWV for bringing up this important and pressing issue. It is about time someone did. I would like to say to those of you out there who know of a Witch War going on or are involved in one or even if you are not involved or know of one that there is a need now more than ever for all of us Witches Wiccans Pagans to band together and provide an example for the world. In our religion it is believed that no one spiritual path is the right way. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that all the religions of this world are just different ways of achieving the same common goal. This goes for denominations as well. The Lord and the Lady are accepting of all and there is no right way to worship them. Whether you are Solitary or a Covener. Whether you are Gardnerian Alexandrian Dianic Faerie Wittan Strega or just about anything else. There is no one way. The Goddess and God love us all and they do not care how we worship. As long as we stick to the Rede we should be able to worship however we want. The problem I think is that most of us do not know the definition of harm. For me harming someone would be not only physically hurting someone but also causing any emotional or spiritual hurt. It also means manipulating or coercing someone to do something against their will like the cult leaders do. I know that this is all easier said than done. It is instinct to assume a defensive posture when attacked. But we have to find ways to do this without hurting anyone in the process. I say that if you ever get attacked by someone on any level first of all dont sink to their level. What I like to do is talk to them like a parent talks to a child who is misbehaving...I might look at them and say something like are you done yet or I might reprimand them for their childish behavior. Just remember to try not to be hurtful...instead make them THINK. Thinking is the first step to halting any conflict and quenching any fire. I think that the antidotes that Wren and Fritz and others presented here are very helpful and effective ones indeed and the advice should be taken to heart. We should not let our egos get in the way of what we are trying to achieve which is unity...with ourselves and with the Goddess and God. Once again I know this is easier said than done but if we work together we can do it. Bright Blessings upon all Narisah"

"YOUR Responsibility - We learn early in our first step to the path toward the Goddess that it is our responsibilities that make us different. We do not place ourselves in the "hands" of a greater power that is our diety. We take responsiblity for our own actions. We walk with the Lord and Ladye and make our "An' It Harm NONE Do What Thou Will" creed active in today's society.

What of harming each other though? Do we remember that it's not only our magickal actions that we're responsible for but the mundane as well? Do we remember that each of us are sisters and brothers to each other? We expect responsible portrayal in the eyes of the media but are we holding OURSELVES accountable for our own actions betwixt and between?

I ask each of my sisters and brothers across this vast expanse of cyberspace to remember each other with each breath...and work toward an end to the witchwars so that we move into the new age with a bit more enlightenment and a bit more peace. - So Mote it Be "

"I just read some of the Witch War material. I will state the obvious. People can be stupid.Robert Heinlein has a character note that Man is not a rational animal. Man is a rationalizing animal. We can also misunderstand events or words. Preconceived ideas are one of the many filters through which we see the world. Jokes fall flat. A tone of voice or word choice is wrong. Someone has a bad day. Someone is full of themselves. Someone is full of nonsense. Someone has the best motives in the world. Someone has the worst motives in the world. The reasons are many. The results hurt. There will always be those who think that they have the One True Path. Why they think so may vary from one person to the other. What I have learned from studying history is that rigid and uncompromising beliefs WILL come into conflict with each other. The holders of rigid and uncompromising beliefs will come into conflict with others who may not be so interested in proving Who Is Right And Good. Ancient pagan peoples do not seem to have this obsession with being the One Right And Good Way. They did insult each other. The Greeks called non-Greeks barbarians. They did not say that foreigners were followers of a wrong faith. Many pagan peoples believed that their gods had jurisdiction only over them andor everyone in their territory. This is something to remember before we get involved in disputes over who is a Real Pagan or whether or not So-and-So is a Real Elder or Real Leader. We should not let our egos be the determining factors in whether or not we make peace or keep on fighting. It all comes down to sitting back and thinking hard before doing or saying anything we might regret later. A friendship is not worth a brawl started over a misunderstanding. Loss of respect for self or others is not worth rumors that blow up into a shouting match and possible legal action. We talk of balance and how to attain it. We should practice what we teach.WE includes me. I can be very insecure. This a primary ingredient for a quarrel.Blessed be to all. Sage Hecate"

"With the rise of religious fundementalism worldwide and the danger this poses of the repeating of events such as the Inquisition Jihad and the witch-hunts and crusades more than ever before we need to encourage tolerance between adherents of differing beliefs but most of all we need unity."

"Witch wars as a catalyst may have some value like all lessons that are taught to us throughout the course of the time that we are on this plain of existence however as a constant its effects would have a tendency to wear a witch down too easily. Yet the only fights that seem to be worthy of fighting these days are ones that will not just make a difference to individuals but to the populace for how can one take care of the many and not take care of the one and vica versa.as I always like to say in ending this statementAll things in moderation including moderation."

"Thank you all at the Witches Voice for caring creating this page and holding a forum for comment. I have been unaware of these problems because our coven is an extended family. However I want my children to be part of the larger witch community and am taking steps gradually to introduce them to other witches. Someday they will probably be part of or know people who are part of a coven and these kinds of problems that I have been unaware of they will have to face. In fact I have seen good advice here on how to prepare them for life in a larger community. This community like the larger world outside our home is filled with all kinds of people. Im glad that there are so many good people and good witches to be found."

"I dont know if others would agree that this is on the topic or not but I have to say that one of the biggest problems I have found since I began to interact with the pagan community has been based on one issue...my lesbianism and my refusal to leave it behind when I step into a magickal circle.I have been desperately searching for information which incorporates lesbian identity into spiritual practice with no success. In fact when talking to other pagans about this I have been called names put down and told that when Im practicing I should take on a heterosexual role and leave my true identity outside of the circle because that is the only way to truly reflect the Lord and Lady. What kind of bull is that it seems to me that even in the enlightened pagan community the idea still exists that heterosexuality is the only norm and all lesbians are men hating butch bitches who want to take over the world and kill off all of the men. This could not be further from the truth. I just simply feel that it is important for us to find a way for ALL people to be able to express ALL relavent parts of who they are during their spiritual life. I feel that we need to learn to be a lot more supportive of people who choose to practice in ways which reflect who they are including incorporating their sexual orienation into their practices. There are gods and goddesses in mythology who were lesbian gay and bisexual yet they are often ignored. It has been my experience that many pagans believe as I do in that the God and Goddess are male and female representations of the ALL or the one great divnity which we can not comprehend in human terms. So we break it down into the God and Goddess and then break them down into individual gods and goddesses like a pyramid. The ALL for many people represents everything and its opposite which is nothing. Therefore the ALL is straight gay lesbian bisexual asexual and non-sexual. In short everything that we can concieve is a part of the ALL and therefore all forms of people and love come from that divinity and in turn from the God and Goddess.Sexuality has long been incorporated into pagan practices but homosexuality is still seen as a big no-no it seems. While some people and covens do tolerate gay or lesbian members many times I have been told that they were still expected to play straight while practicing with the group. I just dont see why this is a must. Did not the God and Goddess create us as well Are we not a part of Them Is not our love and sexual expression just as valid as any other formI would like to see more open discussions about the role that homosexuality femininism have played in the pagan community. I would like to see us find ways to work through centuries of taught hatred and misunderstanding and for all of us to come to terms with who and what we are so that we can be more accepting of who and what other people are. I think that eventually it should be entirely possible for people of either gender of any sexuality to practice together without anyone being expected to hide a part of their identity. It is time that we all grow up and learn that love is a wonderful thing and that love in all of its consenting forms is a celebration of our religion and the deities of our choice. And to the pagans that I have meet as well as those I have not meet who are supportive of our rights to practice on our terms both with other lesbians or gay men as well as with mixed covens I wish to say THANK YOU and Blessed Be Love in all of its forms for friends lovers family and our fellow human beings is probably the only one true perfect expression of the divine."

"Dear FriendsI have recently become a public teacher within the New York Community giving workshops in a small honest shop in the West Village. Yes we have been charging a nominal fee for workshops well there is the rent of the shop electricity and supplies for the classes to consider. I am also a firm believer that recieving a fee teaching any religion is alright providing proper devotional thanks are given to the divine and to the one that passed on their knowledge to you. The small fee I recieve allows me to take one day off of work to put together these workshops and all it entails which is a true labor of love. It keeps the energy moving in a positive way. There are no such things as rich teachers in our society we all have other jobs. One thing that the new student or seeker should really take into consideration is his or hers own instinct. It never proves you wrong. Years back when I was a seeker I have walked out of classes or circles because they just didnt feel right or taken far too seriously. uh where is the joyTeaching always gives me a great amount of joy to see a student take the knowledge make the connection and run with it. Wow This is what it is about. And let me tell you I have learned more from my students and how they implement their lessons in their lives. This humbles me in the best possible way.For all the new students out there you must look really deep into who you are being taught by and what you are being taught. Ask eight thousand questions. Alway strive to see the truth in any situation. Usually you can look into the teachers eyes you will really know what is there. Observe the way they live their lives. Look at their level of self-worth and self-esteem if it is high chances are they will always be aware of you and your boundries because they are aware of their own. Mind you we are never perfect we are on our paths just like our students. We learn and grow everyday. I have private students as well although not taking anymore. If your HPS asks for a small fee for the private lesson usually to cover costs of copying material or supplies it should be no more than 5 to 10 dollars of less of course you are doing a correspondence course it also should be accounted for.. NO WAY SHOULD YOU EVER PAY A LARGE FEE FOR INITIATION or CLERGY or Ministerial functions as HPS we have taken a vow to perform such things as our duty to the Goddess and God If they ask run like the wind This is not a responsible person much less HPS. I would not want that person to be responsible for my spiritual life. Always take your common sense with you is my motto..I am so glad that you have addressed the Witch Wars i it is a very serious issues within our community. It is also very heart-breaking because we share such a beautiful way. I find that it is also a product of a dysfucntional society as a whole. We are living in a society that is filled with horror stories on the evening news. I am a firm beliver in the power of choice. Our choices become who we are and mirror our behaviors.. Instead of blaming others we must face our image in the mirror good bad as individuals. There are two kinds of power. Power of smoke which is external and dependent upon others and power of the self which is divine in nature and indestructible. One thing I have learned in recent years is that witch wars start through fear greed insecurity and a sense of self powerlessness. Through my own actual experience the only true way to obtain self-power is to embrace those very things turning them into strengths through inner transformation or a surrender of the ego to the Goddess or God. Of course this is not an easy feat and takes work everyday but the results are better and truly lasting. I have always found that Magical Wars hits its victims right in the soft spots. If anyone of you find yourself caught in this vicious web look within first look at your weakness turn it around. Then what can really touch or harm you. Lightning doesnt strike twice in the same place. Having a comical streak I find it really amusing that someone has taken that much time energy and research to use their magick against someone else thinking that they are really that important or threatening. Who has that much time I am still trying to find 3 hours to see Titanic. If someone has that much time on your hands I suggest it be used to volunteer for a worthwhile charitable cause. Or perhaps therapy. There is plenty in this vast universe for everyone. Take only what you need and dont forget to give back when you become blessed with excess. Blessed Be Lady GearrHPS and Clan Mother"

"Witch Wars...have always been around. They sadden me becauseI truly believe that in our hearts we are all on the same team and that this is such a life and light-stealing waste of energy when there are so many other critical places to put our precious resources. Have you ever noticed that when you stand to view a physical object the place where you stand dictates what you see. As a former coven member now solitary for manymany years I strongly urge you to take a different spot in the circle and look again at what you see. My experience is that the object always appears to look different than what it did the first time I gazed upon it. I would encourage you to consider taking personal responsibility and honor yourself and others by not fueling the destructiveness and embracing variations on a theme. Those who are at peace will continue to walk in peace and light and those who choose a different path might take notice when others tire of their negativity. The God and Goddess are known by many names and many paths and the Witch Wars do nothing but draw us away from our true path toward the Light. I truly believe that we are much bigger than the sum total of our parts...dont you Blessed Be..."

"As a solitary I dont see much in the way of Witch Wars excpet for online. And BELIEVE ME the Witch Wars on line are as spectacular as the ones in real life. I thnk that the wort possible thing we can do is engage in these petty wars. We only end up hurting ourselves and giving the more mainstream community more to point at.As an Eclectic I have been attacked for playing at my religion. As a solitary I have been told that I would not fit into a coven. The truth of both of these matters is that I prefer to be Eclectic simce I have not found a Tradition that feels right and I am a solitary by choice. Attacks like these are unwarranted and totally uncalled for. And the worst part to me was that these attacks came from our OWN community. Our community NEEDS strong people. It needs our children to be raised in the Goddess. It needs us to BE the children of the Gods that we were BORN to be.And one more thing... PST.. Pagan Standard Time... well occasionally it CAN be a humorus way to explain things. When it becomes a habit it is time to sit down and think over your position in the community. While I have been late I never use it as an excuse. Only as a way to poke fun at myself.May the Lord and Lady Hold Us ALL Ever gently in Their Hands"

"I would like to thank all the contributors to this page. Whenever I come here to see whats going on I find very informative articles that are extremely eye-opening. I was a solitary witch for quite some time. I too have had problems with witch wars. At the time I did not realize others experienced these same problems. I am now a member of a growing organizations that embraces all witches and revels in the differences. I am much happier spiritually than I have been in years past and I feel that it is due in part to finding like-minded pagans. Over and over people state that we must stop fighting amongst ourselves but we never do. We continue to fight and never accomplish anything. If we could put aside our differences and unite as one whole we could accomplish so much. I am twenty years old and I fear for our communitys future... We must unite."

"I am new to the Net. I was very surprised to find out about witch wars. But its understandable although very sad at the same time. Before the Internet any sharing with the community was done word of mouth or was carefully edited by any periodicals. True some flaming oipinions would be printed but nothing was printed that would be personally harmful. Aside from carelessly passing along gossip that might not be true which would be irresponsible on the part of that periodical it would probably result in a loss of readership. Whatever your other thoughts about them where would you rather have your bio printed in Life magazine or the National EnquirerThe Internet has engendered incredible opportunities for power fame and money. Stop me if Im wrong but there probably are those who would like to be interviewed on Donohue and other shows as the definitive voice of the Pagan community someone to contact whenever the public wanted to get the real skinny on Pagans. You know the PAGAN COMMUNITYS LEADER The Pagan Pope. But lets not get any of us going on THAT.Just remember DIVIDED WE FALL. But only if were visibly divided. Is that what the Goddess had in mindBecause of our power the Pagan community although only loosely connected was the pre-emminent social power. We owned everything. It was only when we were attacked by a united centralized front and forgetting the principles of love and peace that gave us that power we started bumping violently into each other in a self-centered frenzy to keep what we had amassed as individuals and go hide.Aw what the heck no ones perfect. Right HuhThose who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to be destroyed by them. Thats a sort of quote but I cant remember whose.Love produces warm feelings not to mention blessings REAL TANGIBLE ones. UN-love produces bile and ulcers and mostly a not-before needed necessity to defend and protect ones ass.Peace is NOT having a big strong door so the wolf cant get in peace is NO WOLF so you can leave the door open and go outside whenever you want.Do you want power Get it the Goddesss way. Unite with those who love Her let that be your common umbrella under which to gather. Believe me the power fame and money will come all by itself.Think of it this way. Every time you shoot off at one of the Goddesss children you are shooting yourself in the foot. You are causing a division in Her family. It DOESNT MATTER who is right or wrong. You may have started out right but when you hurt one of Her children you just became wrong. Then you want to ask Her to bless you Hey even then She might. But I wouldnt. And neither would YOU. Please lets get it together. Its not like Im telling you something you dont know. You more than likely know a lot more than I do about a lot of things especially about the Craft. I just happened to remember one basic point and I decided to get vocal about it.Bright Blessings to all and I do mean ... TO ALL"

"I have been a member of the community here for two years. After a while I began to notice that other pagans would flinch or change the subject when a particular shop was mentioned. Others would react the same when a different shop was mentioned.

Theres really two large main shops in this area that everyone knows of. I discovered that people that went to shop A would not only not shop at B but not even mention the proprietors name and vice versa for people who shopped at store B. After some months I learned that many years ago there had been a rift between the two owners of these shops and to this day most of the community is split down the middle on who they like and which store theyll go to- A or B. Personally I have no problems with either of these people I shop at both stores and I figure since this happened before I knew either of them its none of my business and Im not going to choose sides. I can understand close friends of one or the other that were around at the time being loyal to their friend but this is ongoing with new pagans refusing to go here or there because they heard this or that.

Why cant we be forgiving of ourselves and others Weve all done something in ours lives were not proud of or weve just plain screwed up royally. We -hopefully- forgive ourselves why cant we give others that leeway and just accept them as they are now instead of how they were."

"I want to very much thank the Witches Voice for being here. It is so helpful to a fairly newborn wiccan. I have already and am still learning alot from the different article posted on the different pages. There is still a long way to go. While it is naive to think we will never have wars PLEASE fellow Wiccans and Pagans set aside your petty jelousies and differences try to work it out together rather than fight. How are the Pagan communities to work together to educate the non-pagans of our ways when all we do is argue fuss and fight Lets get a grip here I dont want to upset anyones apple cart let us not take these feelings and negativity into the next century."

"It is amazing to me in this day of religious intolerance that some of our own should fall into the same category. The Lord and Lady are known by literally thousands of names and faces so it only makes sense that there would be many paths to reaching Them. I believe there is a certain amount of selective ignorance thereby shutting off all but what they know - by choice. We must do what all long-term religions have done. Stick together!

There is no one way to the divine which is already in each and every one of us. Just as there are different personalities for every individual there are the individual paths that match those personalities. Most of us are moving torwards the same goals whether its Witch Wiccan Native American Celtic or Egyptian the ancient paths regard Mother Earth the divine love and respect of life in all its forms in the same manner. Although I personally have not been involved in a Witch War there have been those that made light of the paths my wife and I have chosen.

Please...we already face an adversary when it comes to mainstream religions and the lies spread by them. If you value your religion and the freedom to practice it dont remove or shun anothers beliefs merely because they dont mirror your own. Talk with them. Learn from them. You may realize you are closer than you think. The greatest weapon and the most respected...is knowledge. Go in peace and walk in light. Brightest blessings to all."

"I was deeply surprised and baffled this morning when I woke up and read the e-mail that had come in over the night. I awoke to find a letter detailing how someone believed that my website was a Pagan hatesite. Oh boy At first impression I thought it might be a cruel joke. Then I realized that the author of the letter was actually serious. Have we as Pagans become so blind that we think that anything which is different than the normal is automatically against us Just because what I practice as my religion and the things which I do are not Wiccan and that I stated such - the person made this automatic assertion that I was anti-Wiccan. This made me start to think. Here I am someone who keeps to themself and then there is a person who is about to launch an all-out attack on me. Truly things such as this are the cause of our problems. If even we can start to understand that there are difference between some our beliefs - and that sometimes differences are okay and good - maybe this would help us to understand. So quickly I see people who want to run out and call for the complete demise of another. I find this mentatily difficult to understand. There is so so much more out there. There are so many other things that if we put our time and effort into would bring about a much better good that could be shared among everyone and instead we use it on hate."
