Do you believe in life after death? I do. I believe… No, that is incorrect. I know that life exists after death, but then again, what is death really? Is it when your mortal soul goes through a torturous payback for all of your petty mistakes? Is it when your wings fly you up to the clouds where you play a harp with your loved ones while singing and eating carelessly for an eternity? Hmm, makes you wonder doesn’t it? Not for me, I know that I will live again so be warned, you may not be able to get rid of me so easily.
Reincarnation: A very scary sound to those who fear the unknown. Fear keeps many people bottled up while they waste their current life-walk; they fear the unknown because they like to think that they totally control their own lives yet they are the ones who have no control. By allowing their lives to be lived by their body’s reactions to the fears, they have created a life of cause and effect while refusing to learn the lessons that are needed for the soul to grow. Let me explain: When one lives in fear they are not really living because they have bottled up all of their energy by closing their chakras from the universal flow. Since their chakras are closed, they cannot reach a point of understanding and therefore they do not feel the life energy force of the Universal Powers within them.
Karma is a Sanskrit word meaning action. It cannot be defined as good karma or bad karma since that is a man-created concept. It covers all kinds of intentional actions like mental, verbal, physical, words, thoughts, and deeds that have been manifested (or have great potential of becoming) into an energy. Karma is the past and present influence of the future. To those who understand the effects that karma has on our lives it may also be a teacher, with a lesson plan on patience, confidence, self-reliance, restraint, and power. It can best be described as energy returning to where it was created.
Many people have different beliefs as to when the energy returns. Most Wiccans believe that the energy returns to the person who created it; that it may return in minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, or even years. They also believe that when you pass into the Summerland (Pagans’ version of Heaven) your spirit chooses its next life and the old karma disappears. Although some Wiccans believe that if you were really bad or couldn’t learn from your lessons then some of it follows with you.
My personal belief is that it depends on the type of karma that is being returned. I do not think that the soul is punished for making some mistakes or that every bit of energy that you send out comes back at you individually. I do believe that if you intentionally have a habit of hurting people that your soul will choose to learn to heal from being repeatedly hurt by others so that you can experience more rounded lessons of giving and receiving, loving and being loved, joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, as well as the effects that your actions have on others and how to strengthen yourself when your at a time of weakness.
This now leads us to the concept of reincarnation…
What exactly is Heaven and what exactly is Hell? Well that depends on who you are asking. As for me, I’ve been to both many times and I’m sure all of you would agree, especially when your car breaks down, you’ve left your wallet at home, your stupid brand new cell phone has no reception and you’re running late for the new job that took you years of research to get. Or when your lover caresses you with the softest touch and the sweetest breath that sends tingles running along your flesh and makes your body shudder with excitement and you have no concept of anything other then the sensations you are experiencing and the love you can really feel. But that’s not exactly the Heaven and Hell that is being discussed here so I’ll get back to the real subject…
If life is an endless cycle and energy never dies, how does the energy return to one when they pass into the Otherworld/Summerland/Heavens? In Wiccan belief, when one passes into the Summerland, they go through the cycle of the wheel where they can visit with any loved ones that are there and they can take some time to reflect over their last life. They exist in the form of their soul’s energy. They can also reflect over their Akashic Records, otherwise known as their Book of Life, and decide what lessons they need to learn which helps the soul to decide what life they will be born into. Most Wiccans also believe that you get to pick your parents. Some people may say, “That couldn’t be true because I would never have chosen my parents!” They may have been people that you needed to make amends with, people that deserved to hurt you like you hurt them, or maybe they are just the people that will carry you to a point where you can work on other issue later in life. The Celts believe that you stay with the same family and close loved ones, that your mom could have been your brother before or that your lover may be your brother now, etc. Many cultures believe that you can become an animal, a tree, or even a star child. Christians believe that you go up to Heaven where you join with those you love and that you are safe under God’s love with happiness all around you unless you are a bad person or do not except God’s love, then you will go down to Satan and burn in the eternal fires of Hell.
My beliefs, you wonder? I take a little of most beliefs and a lot of my personal instincts. That would be what is known as eclectic, defined as one’s personal journey. That is what I believe, that life after death is personal and what happens to you depends on you. For example: If you aren’t aware that your life-walk has ended or you can’t let go of your life then you become earthbound or stuck in between the realm of the living and the realm of the deceased. This is why there are so many hauntings. I believe Edgar Cayce about the Akashic Records and that you must relearn lessons until you can overcome them and I believe that you will meet a lot of the same people in your lives because the Earth is only so big and most of it is water. As for whether you remain human or can become an animal, I think that depends on you and your soul’s accumulated energy but there is one belief that I feel extremely comforted in and that is that when your soul as accomplished all of the lessons that the Universe has for you and you’ve gone through all the stages of the Hunter, Father, and Sage or Maiden, Mother, and Crone and you’ve come to a point of peaceful love for all and acceptance of all (like Buddha!) then you may become a light being and continue on new journeys of life. After all, life is a never-ending circle.
Blessings and safe journeys through your many lives,
