| A Shaman's View on the Soul

To begin, I write these words through my own personal experiences as a Shaman. Every Shaman is different just as each religion is different. It is my hope that you, the reader, enjoy the article, and perhaps get something out of it. I thank you for reading and encourage any who wish to e-mail me to do so. Blessings, ~A fellow writer.
Everything Has A Soul
Although not every thing is fully ‘awakened’ and some things remain essentially dormant, if you know how to listen and what to look for you will be able to tell which things are awake and which things are not. Each and every thing around us has a soul, also sometimes referred to as an essence, or a “presence.” And so, in this way, everything is alive. Everything has a history, a story to tell, and a wisdom we can learn if we take the time to do so.
All things talk and communicate, even if we don’t fully realize it. Sometimes they communicate via clicks or by body language, or even by the very form and flow of energy that they have. The trick, and by no means is it always an easy one, is to understand the things and find a way to communicate with them.
I myself have found that energy is a fairly good way to actually ‘converse’. In fact, everything has its own personality and can have an imprint on you. For example, have you ever entered a house and felt all warm and welcomed in one area? But maybe then you walk by a door or look an item that makes you feel uneasy? This is a prime example of just what I am talking about. Like people and animals, anything can influence one’s emotions, as many psychologists, writers, poets, and philosophers will tell you. The soul is a part of our emotions and thus can be influenced as we connect with a variety of things from different areas, objects as well as other creatures. As our bodies grow, and as we experience things, so dose our soul.
We are always growing as our range of emotions is constantly experiencing new things as we go through one situation after another. Because each time is slightly different in some way or another than the last, we are always experiencing new emotions and therefore we are always growing, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Let’s explore stones. Every stone is unique. An each stone has a distinct energy that can be used to help with many different things. Stones also all have their own personalities as well as their own energies. In fact -- if you don’t know what I am talking about -- try feeling the energy in a stone and then compare it to one similar in type, such as two quartz crystals. In almost every instance, there will be a difference, especially in the flow of their energy (s) . Some will be more active energy wise, and some will be calmer. Even the way they channel their energies will be different.
After this, I encourage you to try asking it a yes or no question. Ask it to hum with more energy if yes and with less energy for no. You may be very surprised at the results. It acts just like a pendulum would. Almost every stone I have come across is awake ‘soul wise’ in some way. And if stones have personalities and are alive, as people, and animals are, then what honestly wouldn’t be?
To further prove my point, let’s take art. In artistry, one tries to portray something. In every sketch, every doodle, every canvas, there is something. In some cases, as they come out they develop their own personalities. Each stroke flows with an essence.
Another example is blacksmithing. The Sword is considered to be an extension of the wielder. And when a sword is properly made, it becomes more than just steel. Its essence (or soul) becomes a part of you, an extension of you, as well as a part of the person who made it. The treatment and craftsmanship of a blade can show a great deal about it. The traits of the one who wields it and the maker combine into one thing. A piece of each creates something entirely beautiful and new.
The same also goes for those of us who are writers. For everything that we write is a part of us in some way shape or form. Words have the power to make people glean different things from them, and every reader gets something slightly different. By writing, we share a part of our souls. Each reader then is connected to the soul of the work and the emotions inherent in each word then becomes something new. Some make us laugh; some make us grin; some make us think, but all are connected whether we realize it or not.
I would like to say one last thing. Things always affect us both big and small even if we don’t always realize it. I feel it is important that we all learn to be respectful, not just of people, but also of everything around us. Our actions, our emotions, and the facets of ourselves that we share with each other will always affect things around us. And if we don’t at least respect that fact, then we truly cannot say we fully respect ourselves.
