Autumn Magick on the Wind

I am not sure whom to ask about this or if it is possible. But I was so excited to get this in so it might go on for my Great Grandmothers birthday, I send it the unedited one instead of the edited one. I know it is slated to go on this Sunday. Thank you for that. Is there any way you can replace that one with this one please... My grammar and spelling is so bad I am embarrassed.
I also sent it to submissions corrected too... Thank you either way with blessings and light.

Autumn Magick on the Wind

To me there is something especially magickal about late August. The knowing of the great changes to come as the Autumn energies begin to fill your senses. The way the heat of the day has a power over the very soul of man for both good and bad. But most of all, I loved the evenings … those long hot and steamy evenings as the sun would just begin to set way beyond the mountains of my Great Grandmother’s farm.

I lay on the ground underneath the Great Willow tree in my Great Grandmother’s yard. It branches hanging down all around me like a secreted green world held within my dreams. The sweet aroma of Summer would gently float across my spirit as the warm Summer wind would blow the long flowing branches of the Willow across the ground.

I closed my eyes and I could hear the comforting sounds of Summer all around me. The katydids singing their rhythmic summer songs seemed to bring a longing deep within me that I could not completely understand. A stirring from a time and life long since past that was hidden somewhere deep within my memories.

With each breeze the swaying green branches would open and close like window curtains, allowing me to see glimpses through its veil back into the outside world. I could see the mist of evening growing heavy and thick along the tops of the wheat growing in fields. As the sun fell deeper behind the mountains, the sky was beginning to burn in colors of orange, red and gold. Slowly the sounds of the evening gave way to distance songs of night.

Then I heard the voice of my Great Grandmother calling me to supper and I knew I would have to leave this magickal world I believed was mine alone.

Quickly I was on the wood plank porch pecking into the kitchen to see what was for dinner. I could smell the fried chicken and fresh corn that was on the stove as I walked in the door. My Great Grandmother looked at her dust covered child and said, “I have a bath ready for you to take while I finish cooking supper. But mind you get clean and not just muddy the water.” I loved baths especially since they were in the big round tub that my Great Grandmother kept hanging on the screened porch. For baths she would take it down and fill it with water and I got to use her lavender soap we made last fall. I could get lost in there for hours and sometimes did.
and #12288;
I kept expecting my Great Grandmother to call me to supper or to come and rush me out of the tub. But she didn’t come. I am not sure how long I played before I got out and got dressed in my long night gown. I walked into the kitchen and it was empty and dark except for the candle a light on the table. How strange, there was no supper, no dishes and no Grandmother. I was not scared but I was not sure what was going on. I looked around the house and then noticed outside the kitchen window my Willow Tree. It was glowing. There were candles circling all around it, on the ground, in the tree, on the branches, everywhere.

I could hear whispering softly floating on the air as I carefully went down the stone steps toward the Willow tree. As I got closer I could see a small fire had been made and blankets on the ground all around. I saw my Aunts sitting on the blankets having ice tea and laughing with my Great Grandmother. I slowly opened up the long hanging branches and stepped into that magickal world of my dreams.

My Great Grandmother reached up and gave me a hug and said, “Today is my birthday. So tonight we make dreams come true.” I was so surprised I could hardly speak to ask my Great Grandmother why if it was her birthday we didn’t do something special just for her. She looked at me and said, “You did, my Little One, the day the Great Mother Goddess let you come and live with me.”

The Aunts had made up to wonderful gifts for my Great Grandmother’s birthday. First they baked her an amazing chocolate cake that I think is still to this day the best cake I have ever had. And they mixed up, in a big stone bowl of birthday herbs. They called them birthday dream herbs. I have tried to remember everything in the mix, eucalypts, lavender, marigold, magnolia, starflower, rose, sweet pea, cedar, white ash and oh yes, Willow. But so many I didn’t know or understand at the time. Each time we cast the herbs into the fire, sparks would ascend upward toward the sky like glitter in sunlight.

That night the Aunts, my Great Grandmother and I had dinner under the magick of that wonderful and blessed Willow tree. We ate chicken and corn on the cob, fresh baked bread and had chocolate cake. We laughed and danced around the fire with the full Moon shining above us while we cast dreams into the fire.

My Great Grandmother loved me and she taught me that the importance of magick is not only the gift we have in its knowledge but that we remember the joy of it. We had fun that night. We worked magick and cast our dreams into the fire while we laughed and played and all the time give honored unto the Great Grandmother Moon.

My Great Grandmother was respectfully called Mamma Fields by those who knew and loved her. Occasionally when someone was visiting or passing through they would call her Mrs. Fields. But I was the blessed one, because this great and wonderful woman was my Great Grandmother.

She was born on the 28th of August. To the best of anyone’s knowledge in the year of our Lady and Lord, 1890. She passed from within this world in 1983. 93 being the best age anyone could get out of her. My Great Grandmother believed that age is within you and should never be ruled by what others think they may see on the outside. My Great Grandmother took me into her home when she was 66 years young. She was the youngest, most spirited soul, blessed by the Goddess and greatest person I have known in my life.

I hope that in sharing this memory of my Great Grandmother will both honor her and reminds us all of the joy of who we are and our magickal lives.

Blessed be.
