In the late spring of 2004, I was awakened by dreams that I didn’t completely understand. The dreams repeated for several nights, each much like the one before it and each were frightening to me. They were about storms, wind, rain and water. I had had dreams about weather before and normally understood their meanings but these were different.
In each dream I was walking outside in a wonderful, beautiful day. Sun shining, birds singing, people enjoying what seemed like a day in the park. Then as I walked toward my home, the skies began to darken to an almost total black. There was no sounds, no birds, no wind, no people. Then as I walked into my house I could hear the TV going. The local weather person was talking about three dangerous storms coming, one right after the other, and that were going to fatal. Three hurricanes. I had not lived in Florida long so I really didn’t know what to think, except I trusted my dreams.
I told some neighbors who assured me that Orlando NEVER got hit by hurricanes... and even if it did happen, it wouldn’t be much. Besides, it was only June and the season didn’t really start for months.
I told the Coven about my dreams and that we would be hit by these storms and we needed to prepare. Some looked at me as if I had grown a second head but most were trying to understand and some said, "You got it."
By the end of July the dreams were repeating again. So I let everyone (who didn’t think I needed to be committed.) know the dreams were back. Now they were more direct, clearer and the TV person in my dreams was saying to get ready for it to hit.
Within a few days we were seeing hurricanes being forecast by the weather. No one believed that they would hit or cause any damage around where we were especially in Orlando. Orlando is in the middle of the state and out of harm's way.
By this time, most of the Coven had gotten prepared; we had our extra water, flashlights, food and even some camping gear. A few of the members of the Coven came to stay at our home during the storm.
And was there a storm? Yes, four of them, all within weeks of each other starting with Hurricane Charley. Charley lasted from August 9 to August 15, and at its peak intensity it attained 150 mph (240 km/h) winds, making it a strong Category 4 hurricane. The storm made landfall in southwestern Florida at maximum strength, thus making it the strongest hurricane to hit the United States since Hurricane Andrew in 1992. We had four hurricanes to come across us that season all three of them with at least 115 mph (185 km/h) sustained winds: Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne.
After that I had neighbors coming to ask me if I could let them know of any more storms. I just told them, if and when I knew, I would let them know. I have not had storm dreams like that again but we also moved away from Florida. There are times we all wish we could know ahead and warn the world if something bad was going to happen. But dreams are personal and seem to be what we each need to know at that time for ourselves and those we love. Even then it can be hard to get others to heed your warning because it is outside what they can understand, and sometimes believe, until it happens.
The Importance of Dream Journaling
Dreams can be very profound within our spirited lives. That can reach into our minds, our souls, our fears and our desires. They are a doorway into the veils allowing family and loved ones to venture through to talk or leave messages within our dreams. It is also very important to learn what your dreams mean to you. Where a cat may mean to one who fears cats that there is danger leering near: to someone who loves cats the same dream can mean wisdom and contentment or a warning to be weary of someone or someplace.
So learning and understanding YOUR dreams is a very important part of both interpretation and spiritual understanding. I do believe that books and information on dreams are very important. Like learning how to write words before you write a book. But once you learn the basics you need to learn the meanings for you. Not all interpretations are the same for each person. Our lives differ; our paths, our struggles and even our joys differ. Therefore our dreams and understandings will also differ. In this, you must learn what each dream, your dreams, hold for you.
The best way to do this is to keep a journal of your dreams. Writing down each one you have as soon as you awaken, even if you awake to get a drink of water and are in the middle one. You may not return to it and it may be the most important of them all.
1.) You will need a new, unused journal. This can be made, purchased. You will need to keep a paper copy, you may want to keep a computer file of them later but you will always be using and needing reference of your hard copy.
2.) Once you have it ready add, to the first page, Beginning Journal and the day. You will want to section it off into differing parts.
Dreams: Everything you can remember about the dream you had. People, places, and things. Since many time people can turn into things and things into people.
Dream Meanings: What you believe the dream was tell you at that time. What you understood and even the questions you have about what the meaning might be. The meanings will become clearer as you progress.
Meditation: Any meditation done during the day. What you were seeking from the meditation be it, energy, answers or balance.
Meditation Meanings: As with the dream meanings. Write down whatever you believe to be important as well as the level and understanding you received from your meditation.
3.) Today's Interpretations: Each evening before you go to bed, write down what you believe you may have learned, and or understood from your dreams of the past night and any meditation.
*Example; You heard a baby crying in your sleep or meditation and later found out that a child had fallen and skinned their knee. Now you know that a child crying is a foretelling. The point is to learn what each sound and sight means to you and you alone.
Dream Seeking: You want to make some notes on what you are hoping to learn within your dreams. If you are seeking answers to some important question, worries about a friend or lover, or just need direction on life. Put it down before you go to sleep.
This is because in time you will learn to direct your dreams to take you where you need to go for the answers within them. This will take time and sometimes that can be years.
Dream foretelling is a gift, but it is also something you can learn. It takes time. Trust in both your dreams and how you are. I was lucky to have my Great Grandmother allow me the freedom to learn from her wisdom and the gifts she gave me. To know that the world is not black and white but full of rainbows and color that falls within the sparkles of dreams.
