I come from an abusive family and have had a very hard time trying to teach positive values to my children because of this. In my personal experience I’ve seen abuse piled high on abuse and that translates in turn to abuse of the planet. Those abuses can come from other institutions of the planet besides your family of origin and can be piled high on a child.
In an earlier essay I explained about the abuse of children and how it translated into the abuses heaped on our planet. In this essay, I’ll explain how the abuse of parents translates further into abuses of our planet Mother Earth.
Too often, one act of abuse translates into further acts of abuse down the line, which eventually lead to catastrophe for society. A friend of mine calls this perpetrator energy or negative energy that we carry on and eventually give back to our planet, Mother Earth. The opposite of that is positive energy, which we can give to our planet and in turn it will give back to us.
Abuse can come in many ways when it affects parents.
Here, I’ll cite three examples though there are many more that I could describe. The first is society, which abuses parents in many ways. Then, there is the educational system, and finally, the healthcare industry.
Society abuses parents in ways that are obvious and subtle. The first obvious way is competition. In other words keeping up with the Jones’. This is seen in society in the workplace and at home. Parents competing against each other causes abuse.
For example, competing for a job, or the best kids or the best house or car. Advertising contributes to this by showing parents the best way to be. This competition has led to abuses of our planet, which we are seeing today such as global warming. This obviously hurts our planet, Mother Earth and us.
One of the best ways in which to fix this problem is to keep competition with different goals and incentives. In the workplace besides a paycheck, there might be a vacation to a nature reserve. Or a businessman might want to have a goal that he’ll cut back on paperwork, and gas consumption, and he earns an incentive from his employer such as that mentioned above.
The educational system also hurts our parents in ways that affect us all and affect Mother Earth. This can be seen in the ways in which we teach our children and teach each other and the ways in which parents deal with each other and the planet. Several examples include: Lack of education in rural areas lead to a lack of knowledge in how to take care of our home and ourselves.
The next, are schools that are too rigid or too controlled, for example private institutions, such as private religious school. All of these lead to abuse, of the planet, our Mother Earth.
Now, how can the educational system be turned towards helping parents instead of abusing them?
First, as a start, we need to teach parents how important education is by showing them concrete examples of how it’s helped others in society. Secondly, we need to divert funds towards rural communities to help them establish better educational institutions. Finally, we need to help parents get back in the classroom so they can be better at home and in the office.
Health is a major concern for all and Witches and Pagans are obviously concerned with it since a lot of us are healers. However, currently the healthcare industry is part and parcel of the problem. Its abuses of Parents and families have led to the abuse of the planet. Examples of this can be seen in that many families have no insurance and cannot afford even basic healthcare.
This is seen in many parts of the country particularly the Midwest and in the South. People are dying or are sick and there isn’t much in the way of healthcare to help them. How does this translate to the planet, you might ask? Healthy people are more likely take care of themselves and other people and care about the big picture. Which is a healthy home, our planet, Mother Earth.
The educational system and society will help us with our healthcare crisis. The ways in which this will happen is that society should give incentives towards healthcare for their employees. Education will help in that we’ll be better educated about our health and more able to make wise choices about our ourselves and our planet, Mother Earth.
Actually, when you think about it, all three problems tie in together creating a picture of the world today. When there is too much competition and not enough sharing of resources there is likely to be trouble. When there is not enough good or better education that goes around, there will be trouble in the long run. And finally, when there are not enough healthy people taking care of our planet, Mother Earth then there is big cause for concern.
When solutions are given the picture is likely to be a better one. One possible scenario is a family where Mom and Dad work and have had 4 or more years of college and the kids go to a better school. Let’s say they live in a rural area, then all of this translates into better healthcare and wiser choices for themselves and their planet, our dear Mother Earth.
Thinking of a circle, or a spiral, and how we’re all based on those sorts of systems, abuse of one part translates into abuse of all the parts, which causes harm to our planet. Hopefully, for the present, we can all come together and do our parts to help each other, the planet, and ourselves. I call this idea, one I got from a healer, as the idea of “One Good Thing.”
“One Good Thing, ” is a very good idea coming from someone who has been abused. It basically means do one good thing for yourself or someone else and it translates back into positive energy for yourself and someone else. It can help the planet, it can help people, and it’s done wonders for me.
