Organized religion has dealt a low blow to sexual pleasure over the centuries. Both men and women, although mostly women, have struggled at the very least to keep their sensuality and sex-lives intact. If we’re especially diligent, we’ve managed to achieve Sex Magic! So, this Spring, this Beltane, let’s honor our beautiful, juicy selves, regardless of our age, and consider for a few moments here how glorious our pleasure-seeking eroticism can be for enhancing our joy, expanding our heart energy, cultivating magic and revitalizing our connection with all that is.
Sex Magic is a combination of external techniques and internal practices, most of which are aimed at heightening our ability to feel into the intricacies of our ecstatic experience, to influence it’s quality and to strengthen our presence. It deepens awareness, and enhances pleasure and connection during a sexual encounter. Means and practices in the toolbox of the erotic magician are Tantra, sexual Pagan artistry, female ejaculation, multiple orgasms, shamanic ecstasy, orgasmic meditation and much more.
Male and female and the potential energy between them are the main catalysts of the evolutionary force of the Goddess, Eros, Aphrodisia and eroticism. Spirit uses whatever means are necessary to break us open and force our quickening. Magnetism between the sexes is the primary vehicle for arousing our limbic consciousness. Kundalini represents a ripening and fruition of the body/mind of the individual and is the driver for collective sensual awakening. This Kundalini, this perfect love, elevates all that is mundane and raises all that is ‘dead.’
Sex is the essence of creation, from the birth of all life, to the birth of creative expression. For centuries, we’ve worked to channel this energy into the most fulfilling areas and higher states of consciousness. Countless practices reference the hidden (and not so hidden) powers within sexual expression. The Kabbalah sees sexual desire as the deepest spiritual expression one can have. Yogic philosophy refers to Kundalini, our sexual energy, which lies dormant until exaltation in its highest form.
Sex Magic is sexual alchemy, a chemical/hormonal romance that transforms the raw energy from our libidos into rapturous creativity. This catharsis releases built-up tension and is a catalyst to exploring our sexual guilt, denied sexual urges by our learning to embrace more fully our shadow elements in the sexual domain.
As individuals, we have the freedom to choose the manner in which we express our personal eroticism. Sexual freedom means mutually respectful, consensual acts of intimate adult sensuality and sexuality, between or amongst trusted, equal partner (s) . A sexually free individual leads a lifestyle that harms none as it does not ever involve coercion.
By opening our heart, we use our creative life force energy (sexual energy) to merge ecstatically with our partner (s) and through him or her, we become one with the Universe or the Goddess/God as a Divine Union. Nothing can match the explosive energy created in the body by pure desire. The energies fueled by passion are used to nourish the inner flame that melts the egotistical perception of the mind. We discover for ourselves the Divine Masculine or Divine Feminine within our own heart and mind that enable us to attain mastery of our breath, thought, and the natural process of the body towards ecstatic pleasure and love for, first, ourselves, that we may never have known existed. Once we bring this into sacred union with another, we never settle for anything less again.
Because we are sexually free, we lack the guilt and shame so characteristic of a patriarchy that loathes the spirituality of eroticism and the temporal pleasures of the body and flesh. Those of us who celebrate -- as well as practice -- the ideals inherent in an erotic and lustful worldview are unaffected in our private, personal lives by mainstream religious society's prevailing sex-negative conventions, practices and/or attitudes.
Genuine, authentic (and often tantalizing) sexual relations are a purely personal matter; these private interactions depend solely on the individual consciences of the people involved. Sexually free people accept gays and lesbians, bisexuals, alternative partnerships, polyfidelity, polygamy and polyamory. We rejoice in the freedom of sex magic as self-affirming, life-affirming and self-empowering, while sharing pleasures of the body with another or others. All of this awakens us to our own awareness of our ‘aliveness, ’ is physically and spiritually energizing.
Healing through sexual ecstasy is to be experienced playfully, yet with awareness and a sense of sacredness in every gesture, every sensory perception, and every action. For the sexual magician, this is a spiritual path, albeit highly sensual, which includes and appreciates the experience of our sexuality and as a conscious meditation, as a flowing together of the physical, erotic and cosmic energies. The magic of eroticism in the shamanic realms is a merging of spiritual-sexual-energetic integration using movement, breath, sound and rhythm to open up and awaken your senses to being present, and to feeling what is.
In sex magic, we uncover, evoke and embody erotic archetypes. They can be valuable and exciting allies for heightening sensitivity, strengthening awareness, sexual healing and for widening the range of erotic play. Diving deeper into the fabric of our human experience and our erotic selves, we enhance the energies of intention, bliss and presence, while enjoying more awareness, richness and pleasure in our life.
Intently drinking in and responding to the scent of trees and flowers, the melody of birdcalls and music of spring’s awakening, the feeling of grass between our toes or against our bare back, the taste of wild fruit’s warm, sweet juice; undulations of life, the language of Eros, of nature’s native tongue, we deepen our connection, open our heart and expand into our fully embodied, ripe, sexual selves. Naked and joyous in the sun, this kind of immersion is our most powerful ally in becoming aware of and eradicating unconscious patterns that may have gotten in the way of our creating and enjoying our own intense, magical, desirous sexuality in relationships or encounters.
Experientially, by using Tantra, ancient and new shamanic and/or Pagan teachings, and a myriad of other techniques, or just spending a few days immersed in nature, it's possible that the simplest of shifts in presence and heart, in our breathing, or in our movement or mindset will change our life, our joy and our intimacy.
Spring is the mating season; isn’t it time for us sexual magicians to wave our magic wands over those still sleeping, to awaken them into their fully acknowledged sexuality? Sexual energy can’t be destroyed, but only transformed. Beltane is the season of transformation, rebirth, renewal, a bursting forth from the sacred womb of our Mother Earth in unbridled, fantasy-evoking rapture, magic and euphoria!
