 The 2nd Annual OHF Spring Ball & Silent Auction

Pagan residents in Washington, DC jokingly call it the Pagan Prom - and while there were no corsages or yearbooks in evidence, this year's Open Hearth Foundation Spring Ball & Silent Auction certainly lived up to its reputation as the DC area's premier formal Pagan event with a wealth of entertainment, an amazing collection of donated auction items, and over 80 Pagan and Pagan-friendly attendees dressed to impress.
  Taking place Saturday, May 24, 2003; and raising well over $2,000 in support of the DC Pagan Community Center Project, the Spring Ball is an annual gala sponsored by The Open Hearth Foundation, Inc. (OHF) - a 501(c)(3) organization working to create dedicated gathering space and resources for Pagans of all paths. Both a financial as well as social success, this year's Ball was the most successful fundraiser to date for the four-year-old nonprofit.
As participants gathered at the Washington Ethical Society Building in North West DC, they were first greeted by the lyrical sounds of Blue Knight -- a folk/rock/world-music band from New York City, powered by the accompanying voices and instruments of James Gilchrist, Celeste Ray, Bethany Burgess-Smith, and Carol Crittenden.
Celeste Ray also wowed the crowd with a combination of voice, instrument, and Celtic theme. One of the top three bowed psaltery players in the world (and just as good a singer) Ray helped usher the Ball's participants into the main hall with beautiful ballads and Celtic/Word music originals that more than set the tone for the theme of this year's Ball: "Enter The Fairy Realm."
  
Following Blue Knight , in a performance fit for the royal court of Oberon and Titania, the Silk Road Dance Company offered a sneak preview of its premier "Egypta: Myth, Magic, and Mystery," an Egyptian-themed dance performance scheduled to appear later this year at the Kennedy Center for the Perfoming Arts.
And to close out the evening on a bang, the ensemble band Polyknot cranked it up a notch with a blend of Rock, Blues and Funk styled original tunes as well as artfully played covers of songs. Suffice to say the dance floor was well consecrated.
 Of course, when they weren't dancing, Ball participants also had the option of sampling the great catered food, visiting the open bar, or browsing the more than a dozen high-end auction items donated by Pagan individuals, merchants, and artists.
Huge thanks go out to all those who helped make this year's Spring Ball a success, including those who donated time, performances, auction items, and raffle items. Our sincere appreciation also goes to the members of the OHF Spring Ball Planning Committee, and the many, many individuals who came out in support an important charitable cause.
