Let’s talk about the structure of the Universe for a moment. Most everyone on a pagan path tends to agree with the idea that the Universe works like a well-oiled (for the most part) mechanism or clock-work, which…if observed carefully…shows us a predictable and, in some ways, set “future” to the position of the planets, moons, stars and other celestial bodies.
These rhythms and seemingly interdependent co-habitations of various bodies in relation to one another that man has used to set the concept of Time upon as its framework. Since our particular planet revolves as it does on its own axis, the period it takes to complete this bit of its workings in the Universal mechanism is measured by man as “a day and a night.”
Yet, to the Universe…it is simply the turning of a planet on its axis as it was meant to do according to the Universal scheme of things, a cog in the ever-working, ever-growing, ever-spinning mechanism that is the Universe.
Now when man decided that he was so utterly small in the Universe as to only be seen (or unseen as the case may be) as an infinitesimal speck of cosmic dust in the scheme of things, he began to feel “underappreciated” and alone.
Unimportant in his the general scheme of the Universe and since his experience itself was so very large to him personally, surely the Universe would see fit to give him more of a “purpose” than simply to observe the movements of the Universe for their own sake—otherwise, why was he really here?
In his infinite brilliance (or stupidity), man decided he needed to add further “order” to the Order the Universe’s rhythm had already set among the stars and found ways to further divide “the day” and “the night” into sections he could count to make the day and the night move “faster” or “slower” as he perceived them. And other humans, like kids in high school all agreeing that something is to become “fad-worthy, ” they agreed that this concept of control known as “Time” was a pretty good idea!
Far easier to manage than simply daylight and darkness or watching the phases of the moon and living accordance with how such affected them personally—they all agreed what increments Time would take and began using it.
Much to their surprise, the rhythm refused to be caught and snared to their newly agreed upon framework and kept right on playing its own rhythm, thus escaping man on a regular basis and keeping him, quite often, far off his personal balance point. Like a gangly teenager trying to dance, humans created time and tried to dance to it’s tune rather than the one the Universe was playing and that is when man began to lose touch with the greatest song every played.
Yet, for some…this thing man chose to name “Time” never really caught on. Their minds only conceived of the activities and rhythms of the day, the night, the seasons and the process of growing…growing up… maturing… growing old…transforming into the next world and beyond. They were the magickal folk who, to this day, realize that the importance of the HUMAN journey is personal and is to be followed—if you want the most success out of it—by learning one’s own nature and how it flows best with the harmony of the Universal plan.
Did the Universe’s rhythm and its infinite song continue without human orchestration? That answer is a definitive and resounding, “YES!” for everyone has experienced the reality that “Time waits for no man.”
Human beings fight with this thing they named Time almost constantly. We are consistently rushed through it. We never have enough of it. We have only little bits for the things that are truly important in life and development and… again… gluttonous humans we are… never enough, never enough, never enough, as a whole. Yet what so few ever realize is that you have all the time in your world.
Read that again…
You have all the time…in your world.
The answer lies in the fact that humans create their own reality by placing their own free will upon the patterns and rhythms set by the Universe—thus becoming in tune with and in harmony with the Universe—or disharmonious and a cause of discord with the Universe, a stick in the gears of smooth-running families, communities, continents and worlds as a whole.
Your song and the Universe’s song are parts of one another, but every time you try to place your Will over that of the Universal Scheme, you can be sure that the Gods will see fit to remind you sharply of your place, as any parent does an errant or erroneous child.
Arrogance will only prove how much you have yet to learn.
There are those that have written about the concept of time travel, explaining that time isn’t truly linear. The truth of this idea is that Time itself… is linear. Man created it to be just that, a linear framework that further defined an already perfectly defined mechanism that they themselves couldn’t find a strong enough connection to and way to relate to on their own. So their initial answer was to divide it up into smaller, more “manageable” pieces…and in that process, shattered the very freedom they sought to make real—having more time for what is important in life, to them.
Time is linear, but the Universe is not.
The Universal rhythm is cyclic, growthful, gives credence and room for cleansing and transformation and flows in perfect function—with or without human ideals “controlling” the song they hear in their own soul.
The Universal Spiral Dance is one that can easily take place on multiple levels and “time frames” at the same time, for it is already encompassed within the nature of it’s makeup.
Though it is difficult to turn back the Wheels of Time once they have trapped you for a few lifetimes, you can learn from your mistakes. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you will then be given a glimpse of possible futures and possible pasts, or perhaps will find in your dreams that you meet up with an “old friend” that you haven’t met yet in the physical. Perhaps your Guardian Angel is not as far away as you think…perhaps he or she is simply walking another timeline close enough to yours to brush your existence now and then?
But as you become in tune with the Universe, you will find it far easier to open yourself to the broader rhythms it dances to and in time, you too can be gliding like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire (if you’re too young to remember them, look them up!) through life and the Universe, hearing to your very soul the song the Universe has been playing since the first crash of the cosmic cymbals started the whole process in motion.
Truly learn your notes in the Song Without End, for it can carry you through some of your darkest nights into some of your brightest days to come!
Happy Journeys to you and yours!
