Let it be known to the Wicca and to all Pagans that our student, who is known to the greater Pagan world as BlackMagicalCat and to the mundane world as John Eiler of Rock Hill, South Carolina, was challenged by the Guardian at the Gate of Death and passed all necessary tests to be initiated to First Degree as Witch and Priest of the Old Gods in the Eternal Harvest Tradition of Wicca.
BlackMagicalCat came to us nearly two years ago, enrolling in our First Degree correspondence course. His early work was good and it was clear he was truly connected to the Goddess. The middle of our course delves deeply into the personal via meditation, chakra work and the like. This period "in the crucible" is always a period of refinement, a period where the dross of ego is burned off and (ideally) the Soul can more purely be permeated with the essence of the Gods. Many students find this difficult and fall away, but not BlackMagicalCat. We worked with each other through this process, and garnered the rich rewards that personal spiritual work offers.
After this period, BlackMagicalCat's work went from very good to outstanding. His strong connection to the Goddess became even more pronounced, and also to the Ancestors, the "Mighty Dead, " as evidenced through powerful dreams, synchronicities in his external life, the passing of mundane challenges, and by the highly inspired prayers and poetry that he began to write. In all, it became increasingly obvious that he had experienced the required "Inner Initiation" that is required to make the formal "Outer Initiation" ritual take root.
All the study in the world can't create this "Inner Initiation." It is a seed planted by the Gods, and dedication and deep inner work are the only soil and fertilizer that will allow that seed to blossom and grow.
So, on Friday, May 8, BlackMagicalCat, properly prepared, entered the Circle; was quizzed extensively on Craft lore and knowledge; demonstrated his ability to manipulate energy; was successfully tested in psychic ability; and passed the Guardian at the Gate of Death, then to be anointed and sealed as a Priest and Witch and offered the Mysteries of the Harvest.
Priestess was Lady GreenFlame of the Coven of the Ancient Harvest. Priest was Lord Gaelan ElfDragon of the Coven of the Ancient Harvest. Assisting was Priestess ClayFeather of the Coven of the Harvest Moon.
We are so proud of John. His love of the Goddess and his strong connection to Her; his generosity; his very hard work and his devotion are inspiring to all of us. This Tradition and the Pagan world in general are blessed that he is a member.
