| Gardening with Crystal Energies

The concept of utilizing energies in everything we do is a widely known, accepted, and practiced idea. The usage of crystals in practice is also a widely accepted idea, utilizing the energy of certain crystals to amplify a particular part of a rite or a particular energy. Our magickal output is a function of the energy we put into each magickal working and a function of the energies of things we use as well. Almost all of us probably have a garden, want a garden, or know someone with a garden and we probably put our most tender energies into working with our herbs, flowers, trees, or what have you. This, in and of itself, is energy gardening in its simplest form. Stepping things up a few notches will—from personal experience—also increase the overall output and effect of your garden in more ways than you may realize. In this particular style of gardening (which may or may not already be utilized by some) , I have adopted the idea of crystal gridding and brought it to the garden.
Most of us probably pre-grow our plants inside using greenhouses. I know this is the best approach for us living in North Carolina because the weather is so unpredictable. For pre-growers, the first month or so is the most important in waking the energies of the seeds and getting them to sprout. I normally start growing a few weeks before the Spring Equinox either in the last week of February or the first week of March. That way, depending on the plant type, the seeds have sprouted just in time for Ostara! While you are waiting for your seeds to germinate, I find it good practice to speak to them, offering them encouragement, and accessing their young spirit. The energy of this communication helps them grow. These practices go for those of you who go directly to the Earth with their seeds as well. Once you’ve planted your garden in such a way that pleases you, it is now time to begin placing quartz crystals.
If you have a relatively large garden, with a multitude of plants, you will need a large number of crystals plus one master crystal and a pathway crystal. So if you have 50 plants, you’ll need around 85 quartz crystals to cover all areas. You will be gridding these crystals with the plants as energy centers. You will want to start by taking your Master Crystal, or a large crystal from which the energy will originate, and place it at the top (or bottom) of your garden. From here your pathway crystal should be placed between the master crystal and the plant adjacent to it with the point facing the plant. You have now set the energy into motion. Take your remaining crystals and begin placing them between plants being careful never to place two crystals with the points facing each other, as this will create a stop in the energy flow. Continue placing these crystals until all paths between plants (except for diagonal pathways) have been covered. This technique is especially good for those who enjoy utilizing crystal grids.
A simpler technique, and one I like to utilize personally, consists of only one large quartz crystal placed in the center of the garden (which will act as your master crystal and quite a lovely centerpiece) and four crystals buried at each of the cardinal points of the garden north, south, east, and west. This simple but effective technique draws the energy of the center crystal down and through the roots of the plants as it bounces between the buried crystals. The roots take in the passing energy and process it.
So, what are the benefits of energy gardening? Although not scientifically studied and based completely on personal spiritual speculation, the benefits of energy gardening could be vast. Quartz is a universal crystal, used in a variety of ways, and amplifies energies as well as heals sickness. If it can do it for the human body, it can do it for the body of the Earth Mother and all of her extensions, preventing rot and sickness in your plants. If you are growing herbs to use for magickal purposes, energy gardening serves as a primer and could make the energies of the plant more potent. As bees pollinate and feed from your garden, they are taking in nectar and pollen that has been charged via energy gardening. These energies, from the healing quartz crystal, are carried far beyond the boundaries of your personal gardening space to the world around us. One hope for this technique is that, as the bees return to their hives, they take with them the energy-primed plant essences and heal sickness within the colony thus slowing the spread of Colony Collapse Disorder. While you are energizing your plants, you are also offering healing to the Earth, not only by just planting the garden itself, but allowing those healing energies to flow through Her. We owe the Earth healing energies.
There are many ways to utilized energy gardening. If you don’t garden at all, try these techniques in a downsized way with houseplants. This is perfect for plants that purify the air, such as Yucca, because as the plants purify the air, they are also releasing those healing energies from the crystals and benefit everyone that comes into your home. Although quartz is a universal stone, you can experiment with other stones if you have a garden for a specific purpose (such as a moon garden) , so feel free to branch out and try something different, make it your own and have fun with it. There are other methods aside from crystals as well. For instance, I have also been drawn to utilizing lunar energies by watering plants with moon water. Another fun thing to try would be to invite an animal spirit into your garden so that it may protect it or providing a space for a Goddess statue so that she may spread her healing energies to the plants from her post.
