Upon my weekly visit to WitchVox.Com I learned yesterday of the passing of Rosemary Kooiman, whom I had the pleasure of knowing and working with a few years ago, during my involvement with the Washington DC Pagan Leadership Consortium.
I had the very good fortune of meeting and working with Rosemary Kooiman back in 2001, when the organization I represented, then known as the ‘Enchanted Druid Order’ or, “E.D.O., ” was a member organization of the D.C. Pagan Leadership Consortium.
Rosemary brought a lot of laughter into my life. Among my fondest memories has to have been my introduction to the story of the “Pagan Olympics, ” in which she described to me an event at which all of the High Priestesses in a given area get together, put on all their jewelry, and the last one standing is declared the winner. Rosemary, I suspect, would have won that event. I once marveled at the number of talismans, medallions and charms she commonly wore about her neck, and the many, often varying, bejeweled rings which adorned her fingers at any given time.
I remember her to be a vibrant spirit, filled with the grace of the Old Gods and with a wisdom that transcended her years. An honourable and worthy elder of the Pagan community, Rosemary was an example to me, and, I’m sure, to many others, of the dignity and light longed to be possessed by anyone devoted to the service of the Gods and the Elder Ways.
To the memory of Rosemary Kooiman, I offer this blessing:
May she, at last re-united with her beloved husband Abe, in the company of Gods and angels, have eternal peace. May she remain forever the brilliant light which guides the rest of us through the weary night, and leads all eventually home. Gods rest her gentle soul in the haven of the Summerlands, for hereupon the Mother Earth, in the plane of our mortality, she will be greatly missed.
Abundant Blessings and Kindest Personal Regards,
E.J. Haley Writer, Artist, Druid/Pagan Priest Granville, New York
