Firstly, let me make myself clear. I have Christian friends who embody the message of tolerance Jesus taught. I see no conflict with Christians being Witches for in many ways He embodied the mysticism of the Eastern cultures he traveled during His “absence” and that of Judaism.
I harbor no ill will toward caring, compassionate tolerant Christians whatsoever—just those who believe how they interpret the Bible is the law for all.
Case in point: as a writer I belong to numerous online writers’ groups. Ninety-nine per cent of these groups accept their Pagan membership and, in fact, often inquire for information on what we believe in order to understand a spiritual path they know little about.
Recently, a flame occurred on one these lists. A member had asked those of us who were Pagan to help her remove negative energy from her daughter’s home. What followed was an obnoxious diatribe of quotes from the Bible, including (and repeatedly) the phrase “Thou shalt not suffer a Witch to live” from one member.
This upset even the Christian members, even the one that is a Christian missionary. This flamer would not hear that newer interpretations are considering that the exact phrase might be “Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live.”
The Pagans on the group remained level headed, offering explanations of differing beliefs which, for the exception of this one person, the other members found educational and interesting.
This person then targeted one of the Pagan writers and e mailed her off list with more Bible quotes supposedly to convert her for fear of the Hell her hateful god would impose. Unable to convert or win over supporters, she unsubbed and the group was relieved to see her go.
I like so many enlightened Spiritualists, Pagans, Shamans and Witches, have been going through incredibly stressful times that make hardships in the past seem like ice cream. I know I need not explain further. We have all seen the trends.
We have all been noticing the astrological convergences and how our lives are being affected and frankly, doesn’t it seem like the power mongers, bigots and evangelical Christians are being spared all the heartache? I am not saying all are being spared, just that it seems that way.
Well, I have often been accused of “thinking too much” and decided to give all this my attention.
The first thing I did was not take into consideration that the Bible as it stands now was edited, censored and interpreted toward a certain agenda by the early Catholic Church. I speak another language and know firsthand how the nuances of interpretation can affect meaning. But, I chose to eliminate this from my thought process, as it is not germane. Extremists of the Christian faith will not consider this so, neither would I.
It seems the intolerant Christians live in fear of Satan’s influence and Hell. Well, first off, if we are to believe (for a moment) that Satan was cast “down” because of rebelling against God and Hell is the realm of Satan, doesn’t that make the earth “Hell?”
Secondly, let’s take a look at Satan. His role in the Old Testament changes from being among the favored of God to being the adversary of man and then God. Satan is also known as Lucifer and was the most beautiful of all angels. Was he really guilty of compromising man in the Garden of Eden? Or was he, as a light bearer, a believer in knowledge and therefore sought to enlighten man?
I find it interesting that there are other such “Lightbearing” tales such as Prometheus who brought the power of fire to mankind out of compassion of suffering the cold in darkness. This light bearer was punished by Zeus for this compassion and was tied to a rock where an eagle ate out his liver every day (as the liver would regenerate). As the tale goes, freeing Prometheus was one of the Twelve Labors of Hercules.
Let us now look at the Fae. It is said around the time of their arrival, great and numerous lights fell from the sky. It is also said the Fae (and their descendents) are of the Nephilim line). In the Bible, and other writings, these Nephelim were the result of angelic and human mating. (See Revelation of John, Gnostic Bible) .
My supposition is that these lights falling from the sky (if we are to continue looking at Biblical references) were indeed Lucifer and his legions who perhaps saw their god as unjust, unfair and cruel. Truth be told to me, it often seems the Biblical God has all of our human flaws to an extreme…and this is “perfection?”
Fast-forward to now and the many of us who follow one path or another rooted in the Olde Ways, the Fae or other pre-Judeo/Christian teachings. Are we damned or are we embracing the way of light?
As many paths teach, these are challenging times. Are we, light bearers in our own right, descendents of those who brought light now being equally punished by the god of intolerant Christians?
If there are truly different gods, can we rule out that the god of this type of Christian may exist and have the earth as one of its domains? Can we rule out that this god, still bitter over a battle eons old, has it out for us all who walk that different path?
As I am supposing here…does it make a difference to us? Each path teaches of these times. We have all been warned about the power mongers and right here, in the United States we are witnessing a destruction of a philosophical legacy at the hands of a Christian leader whose evangelical beliefs promotes a Middle East crisis in order to help his god bring Armageddon to us all, as if He would need help. Worldwide the drive for power and greed is destroying our beloved Earth Mother.
Why? To bring about a Second Coming or to worsen the Hell so many live in right now in the name of who knows what anymore?
As Pagans we have chosen our path and this path is not that of destruction or despair or fear.
We will not change. We are the light bearers of the past, present and future. We cannot accept intolerance, pettiness or the Darkness come what may.
