13 Keys: The Victory of Netzach

The focus of these articles is not the Paths of the Tree, but some explanation of their energetic state and connective function from sphere to sphere is necessary. The 22 Paths that connect the Sephiroth act as conduits/ filters and refiners of the energies of the connecting spheres. The Spheres are the pure states of Being, and the Paths allow for the movement of energy between the pillars of Force and Form. On the evolved or “Middle” Path, they become the direct line that mirrors the adage “as above (Kether or the Divine) , so below” (Malkuth or Manifestation) .

For this series of articles, our inclusion of the Paths will be those of the Lightening Flash. The next Path of connection on ascending the tree is the 27th Path connecting the spheres of Hod and Netzach. The 27th Path represents the synthesis of mind and heart working in dialogue and exchange with one another. The Hebrew letter placed on this path is PEH meaning mouth. If we think in terms of synthesis and cooperative effort, this is the call of speaking from a place of compassion (Netzach) that has been informed by reason (Hod) .

Its element is Fire and the planet of correspondence is Mars. Giving consideration to this energy, we see that the natural product of heart and mind not working together can often cause the Fire that is inconsiderate and causes anger and conflict. Conversely, if heart and mind are on the same page each tempers the flame of the other and the result can be directed and focused passion that moves forward productively and infused with love.

The Tarot card placed upon this Path is The Tower key. Those emotions that are not bolstered by rational consideration can blow up in unexpected ways. Those thoughts that are not softened by consideration of the compassion of the situation can tear apart what has been built. But, if the two are in sync with one another, the opportunity for Divine (the Lightening bolt) descent entering the crown of glory causes a necessary disruption. It is this disruption that allows for deeper connection to the physical and foundational world as we rebuild our towers from a space of greater understanding. This path is also the first encounter with the concept of the Dark Night of the Soul. At this level, faith and spiritual direction and progress are questioned, placed in a state of doubt and the seeker may either rise above this disoriented state or succumb to its fears remaining for that time in a state of imbalance and fear.

Keywords For the Sphere of Netzach

The Energy of the Sphere

The sphere of Netzach is the place of balance of hedonistic and aesthetic ideals. Love is the primary focus, but not at the expense of over indulgence in physical pleasure. This is also the place of expression of the Love of Nature in all Her forms. The connection between beauty and the forces of nature such a strong one that even in the Natural world’s more disruptive expression, the essence of order and intelligence in design in her shaking free those disruptions of energy from her mantle are still done with a sense of order and aestheticism.

Netzach is known as the sphere of Victory. The principle of victory here is not one of wanton take-over and infringement of another's space, but rather victory that is found within the triumph over obstacles, whether perceived or real. This over-coming is brought to a place of clarity and scrutiny primarily through the action of revealing the true nature of the experience. The resulting balance that occurs is the interaction between reason and creativity, academia and pleasure, science and art. This is the work of a polarizing effect. The balance of male and female principles, expansion and contraction, mercy and severity of nature are those obstacles which when brought to a place of control and exertion of will form the basis for creative outpour.

The Occult Intelligence

Netzach is known as the "Occult Intelligence". By definition occult means:
1. Beyond the realm of human comprehension; inscrutable.
2. Hidden from view; concealed.

The revelations that occur within the sphere of Netzach are those that surpass our human experience. They are the stuff of dialogue between our heart of compassion (Netzach) and our Higher Mind (Hod) . Although Netzach provides illumination that allows the Mind stream of Hod to come to its pure insights of intellect infused with emotion, this energy is one that is more subtle and complex in nature.

We could think of this in terms of Netzach's connection with its connecting sphere; Hod- pure reason, intellect and inspiration. The highest thoughts and loftiest aims are nothing that will ever come to fruition unless there is the spark of radiant light- so pure and refined in its essence that it is the expression of beauty that is incomprehensible at a physical state of being. This radiance alone is also not quite enough to fully catalyze the pure mind stream, there must also be the refined mind touch of the Divine (emanated downwards from the spheres above) -the pinnacle of the "Fool" of Tarot's attribute of utter belief and faith that all will be well as he steps forward into the unknown.

Intelligence of the Heart

Intelligence of the Heart refers to the concept that was explored by scientist and metaphysician, R.A Schwaller DeLubicz during his studies of Egyptian spiritual and alchemical practices. For most, the concept of intelligence is confined to the physiology of the mind and the senses that the mind involves. To the Ancient Egyptians, the "heart" was the holder of these attributes of intelligence and knowing. According to Schwaller:

"Our rational mind is unable to grasp the central mystery, he argues, because our "sensory organization clearly seems to be imperfect. This condition can only be alleviated through a "perfecting of consciousness".

This way of thinking is deeply reflective of the principles of Netzach and its force of impact on Hod, the rational mind. Without this innate intelligence, which serves to provide the deeper understanding (realized through expansion and issuance of those qualities of Divine Love) , pure reason will never have the necessary glue to provide thoughts of substance and viability. They will always remain within the world of lofty ideals that never come to full fruition.

Location on the Tree: The Base of the Pillar of Mercy

The importance of the connection between Netzach and Hod is found in the placement of these spheres being the first linear points on the ascent up the Tree. Being the polarized opposite of Hod, Netzach is able to provide the necessary refinement of pure intellect. Each interacts directly upon the other; the path between serving as the channel of filter as the flow of energies is moved back and forth. Each sphere carries within itself a replication of the entire Tree, and in this configuration, each of the spheres at polar extremes of pure essence draw some of the other's energies into their core of being.

Netzach sits at the base of the Pillar of Mercy (Force) . It receives the downpour from Chesed (Mercy through knowledge of all the spiritual virtues) and Chokmah (The Celestial Father of Wisdom) . It is the Ending place of Divine Compassion, which has been finely honed and created through emanation from the Higher Spheres. Netzach holds within itself the response to creativity. The downpour from those spheres above which when finally reaching the abode of Netzach have gathered and drawn down into Netzach the appropriate and necessary reactions to knowledge of the Universal Laws and wisdom in exercising them (Chokmah) and Mercy (Chesed) that has been drawn from knowledge of the divine virtues that test the limits and boundaries of right action.

Capacity of the Heart

Netzach also has multiple paths of connection. It, like its connecting sphere Hod, is connected via a Path to Tiphareth (the central sphere of the Tree) - to the right of Hod (the base sphere of the Pillar of Severity) and reaching upwards out of the moon sphere of Yesod. These paths offer many routes of emanation from Netzach's core to be opened and awakened. In its upward movement towards Chesed, the order and elegance found within Netzach's domain is drawn into Chesed as a higher amplification of the principle of Divine Love. In its descent towards Malkuth, Netzach brings the energies of compassion and the opportunity for higher expression of physical love.

The Briatic Color of Netzach: Emerald Green

Each of the spheres is assigned four colors in accord with which of the Four Worlds that sphere’s energy is correlating to. In some readings you will find them identified by the nomenclature of a Royal Scale.

The King Scale, which correlates to the Divine World of Atziluth

The Queen Scale, which correlates to the Archangelic World of Briah

The Prince Scale, which correlates to the Angelic World of Yetzirah. This color is a combination of the King and Queen Scale colors of the sphere. In this way, you could think of Divinity (Atziluth) sending froth its Divine Messenger (Archangel of Briah) to command and guide the work to be done by the Angels (Yetzirah) that will extend into manifest creation (Assiah) .

The Princess Scale, which correlates to the Manifest World of Assiah. This color is the deepest hues and tones of the combination of the colors preceding it. This is also the densest form of those combined colors (often with flecks of light corresponding to the King or Queen scale colors) .

The Expression of Hod in the Four Worlds

Atziluth- The World of Archetypes- Deity
King Scale: Amber
The Supreme Lord of Life
Deity of Beauty and Love

To balance and refine the energy of pure thought (Hod) , Netzach offers the place of the heart centered Path. Intellect without the balance and containment of emotion seeds the potential for dogma and irreverence and disregard for the human aspects and needs. This aspect of creative urge fosters the yearning and desire for union of the mind and the heart at a mid-point where each is fed and nurtured by the other and the downpour of manifest progeny can begin.

As exemplified by the Aphrodite, love is the basis of all creation. It is in love that the Divine split in the polarized outpour of male and female, mind and heart. It is from the space of unconditional love that when mind or reason and heart or feeling is co-joined and working collaboratively that we bring the highest form of this combined effort into being.

Briah – The Creation of a Concept- Archangelic
Queen Scale: Emerald Green
Haniel- “Glory of God”

The Archangel Haniel is associated with lunar energies and our natural instincts, passions and creative urge. Haniels' work is to bring us to the place of recognizing our own beauty and divinity within. This is the lesson of the heart and the balance of duality through polarization.

Yetzirah- Forming the Image of the Concept- Astral/Angelic World
Prince Scale: Bright Yellowish Green
The Angels of Netzach are the Elohim

Netzach is the life force that gives essence to what would otherwise be only lifeless form and reason. With Netzach's energy of the Elohim - the Gods who sired the progeny of the Beni Elohim (sons of the Gods) - working in conjunction with and natural emanation into the pure intellect of Hod, thought now has a "reason" to come to life.

This life force is the result of the multiple paths or facets of expression in Netzach of the One source of Divinity. This Singular Source has within this sphere moved to an expression through the many and varied Gods. At this level the One has become many.

Assiah- Active/Material World- Manifestation
Princess Scale: Olive, Flecked with Gold

The Greeks called the planet Venus phosphorus, which means "Lightbearer”. Venus shines most brightly in the sky in the morning. In the Assiatic World, Netzach is the light that illuminates and refines the mind stream of Hod, enlivening and empowering it to reach its fullest potential of expression. Just as Venus is at its brightest at the beginning of the day, Netzach is the first impulse and place of outpour towards the illumined mind. It is the light that shines at the beginning of the ascent up the Tree -- having drawn the energies of pure thought from Hod towards un-manifest form -- and just before the carefully constructed mind of ideas on the descent downward towards the filtering energies of Yesod.

The Spiritual Experience of Netzach: Vision of Beauty Triumphant

In the sphere of Netzach, the vision of beauty is that of nature and all of its components, human, animal, mineral, flora and fauna. There is also a sense of appreciation of all the finer things and highest ideals. This is present in both the physical concepts of the sphere as well as the spiritual etherical levels. This is the place of triumph over the baser self, of organized effort to bring refinement and the orphic delights of the arts to fill the container or structure that is being created before it is released into the place of the intellect that can further define and order it.

The Illusion of the Sphere: Lust, Promiscuity

The Illusion of Netzach is that of lust and promiscuity. The highly idealized and divinely infused love contained within the sphere of Netzach can readily be used as a means of only gratifying oneself under the guise of spiritual practice. Many an unscrupulous spiritual leader has seduced the unwitting practitioner into sexual servitude by promising a way to higher enlightenment through the energies of the sex act.

The Magickal Image: “A Beautiful Naked young Woman”

The image of a beautiful naked young woman as magickal symbol for Netzach carries with it both appeal to the visual senses and the stimulation of desire for that which is pleasing to the eye and ripe with potential for possessing as one's own. It is the feeding of this desire that causes the will to move beyond stasis and inertia. It is the desire for that which is uplifting that has given the world some of the most beautiful art work. Art, which has been enjoyed for centuries and is lasting. And, it is the desire for permanence, which Netzach infuses Hod's brilliant flashes of inspired thought with that gives way to lasting manifestations.

Personal Study: The Living Tree, Meditative Focus

The suggestions in this section are meant to open your awareness and understanding of the particular sphere in ways that are physical in action and viable in result.

Opening to The Feeling SELF -- A Meditative Focus

1.Reflect on a scenario in which you felt you communicated clearly and effectively what you were feeling.

2.Reflect on a scenario in which you felt your intent was overwhelmingly guided by your emotional self. What were the results?

3.Seeing yourself within the energy of Netzach - bring each scenario into the place of your emotional self, and replay in your mind the events.

4.Make note of how each scenario was transformed or changed when processed through the energy of Netzach.

5.Go within and seek guidance about what areas of your life need to be offered more compassion and where you may attract more beauty into your life.
