13 Keys: The Crown of Kether

The focus of these articles is not the Paths of the Tree, but some explanation of their energetic state and connective function from sphere to sphere is necessary. The 22 Paths that connect the Sephiroth act as conduits/ filters and refiners of the energies of the connecting spheres. The Spheres are the pure states of Being, and the Paths allow for the movement of energy between the pillars of Force and Form. On the evolved or “Middle” Path, they become the direct line that mirrors the adage “as above (Kether or the Divine) , so below” (Malkuth or Manifestation) .

For this series of articles, the Paths are those of the Lightning Flash. The final Path of connection on ascending the Tree is the 11th Path connecting the spheres of Chokmah and Kether. The 11th Path is the first point of connection between the spheres in emanation from the Godhead of Kether. This is the space moving towards the point of the One and its awareness of its singularity becoming the first of what become the two of creative outpour. This path is the first of the Lightning Flash of involution moving in flow downwards towards it ultimate goal of manifestation.

Just as the sphere of Malkuth serves to bridge the pure essence of life coming into manifest form and moving out of its corporeal existence towards Yesod; the 11th Path forms the bridge that allows the initial thrust of the seed of force to flow downwards into the vessel of receipt that is Chokmah. What moves between Kether and Chokmah becomes the dialogue of what forms the building blocks of how this life-giving flow may be directed. It is the Divine conversation of pure Spirit and consciousness connecting with the seed of its potential and the vessel that will continue the process of emanation.

The 11th Path is assigned the element of Air. If we consider the properties of Air, its placement on the 11th Path indicates the breath of creation itself. The movement that is the ebb and flow of inhalation and exhalation of the Divine holds the key to the mysteries of time and space. The planetary correspondence is Uranus, the great electrifier of rebellious energy. Uranian energy is that of blazing its way through the circuit boards and enlivening and quickening instantaneously. Placed upon the first path of emanation from the Source of Kether into the vessel of Chokmah as the Divine Father insures that the seed will be potent and the flow will be dynamic in its outpouring.

The Tarot card placed upon this Path is The Fool, the first of the Major Arcana cards. The number of the Fool Tarot key is the zero of creation that is the limitless source of all life. The Fool moves forth trusting that all will be as it should and that there is no need to fear stepping into the unknown. The energy is that of unquestionable faith and by the active vision of this faith all barriers are removed and the Divine flow steps into the potential of its own being.

Keywords For the Sphere of Kether

Pure Spirit/Consciousness
Master Prototype

The Energy of the Sphere

What’s in a Name?

Kether is assigned a variety of names and attributions. To some degree these are influenced by the essence of its energy as much as the cultural and occult clues to the nature of the sphere that are contained within. Below is a listing of some of the more widely used names:

Existence of Existences
The Concealed of the Concealed
The Ancient of the Ancient Ones

As you see from the semantics of the three above, the duality or doubling causes a unique polarity to arise. It is also a greater emphasis that is given to the attribute described, which alludes to the timelessness of the energetic construct of Kether.

The Primordial Point
The Point within the Circle

The last two names concern the natural symmetry and geometry contained within creation. The primordial point is that place where all was, is and shall be. It is the beginning and the end of what may unfold within its cycles. The Point within the circle is the extension outwards of that energetic creation. It is a pushing outwards and stillness containing the cyclical nature that is repeated throughout the cosmos. It holds both that which has been created and is also the Source of that creation itself. The point of all beginnings and the point towards which, in the final inspiration of breath, all that is manifest returns.

Within the energy of Kether we find the primary Urge and Yearning of higher consciousness for more than Itself. IT serves as the master prototype for all that follows. This Divine desire creates the needed flow of energy to satisfy that yearning, and directs its course through that of Chokmah and then towards Binah.

Kether is called the Crown. I like to think of this in the sense that a ruler’s crown is that which sits apart and is separate, yet still very much a part of the human or physical being who wears it. It is the “idea” that is evoked when in the company of one who wears the “Crown” and the potency of that expression contained within the “understood” authority and power now considered part of that person’s dominion.

The virtue of Kether is that of attainment. The continuous cycle and flow of energy, birth, death, evolution and involution are required to maintain the creative directive. Within the workings of the Universe all of life is in a constant state of creation. Having aspired upwards towards the source that created the realization is that of return to a state of potential; a state of formlessness which then can be returned into a place of form.

Location on the Tree

The Pinnacle Sphere on the Pillar of Equilibrium

The Middle Pillar is the equalizer or place of balance where the Greater work is synthesized. This is the place of the rising Kundalini as lunar and solar pathways combine in the union of a greater knowledge of Life, Death and Rebirth. This is the Pillar of Consciousness in its ascent (The Serpent of Wisdom) that is the dynamic catalyst for evolution. And, in its descent from Kether to Malkuth, as The Pillar of Grace it becomes the path of involution. The Spheres of this pillar are Malkuth – Yesod – Tiphareth - Kether. Go back and read the posts regarding these spheres and if you have been following this series, see the greater insight of their essence when taken within the reflection of Kether.

The Hidden Intelligence

The occultist, Gareth Knight states that …“The First Path is called the Admirable or hidden Intelligence because it is the Light giving the power of comprehension of the First Principle, which hath no beginning. And, it is the Primal Glory, because no created being can attain to its essence.”

The wisdom and intelligence found in the sphere of Kether requires that it be sought out and then, and only then, will the smallest glimpse of its true nature be revealed. The paradigm is that it is only hidden because we choose not to see its glory. Albeit, these concepts are all philosophical in basis given that only that which is un-manifest can merge with and comprehend that which is also un-manifest, but the strivings towards the metaphors and applications of these energies is still relevant and concrete in the workings towards spiritual evolvement. In this way, that which is hidden is often in plain site, if you have the “eyes” to perceive it.

The Briatic Color of Kether: Brilliant White

In the supernal spheres, we see colors of value- light and dark. The black of Binah holds all the colors within its darkness. Chokmah is the lighter value of the darkness of Binah. It, too, still contains a spectrum of all the colors, but the essence has been diluted by the brilliance of Kether. Kether is pure Light, but within this brilliance of Light is held the potential for other spectrums of color depending on the refraction and qualities of the filters through which it processes. Think in terms of a beautiful, crystalline prism and what occurs when pure brilliant Light is refracted through it.

Each of the spheres is assigned four colors in accord with which of the Four Worlds that sphere’s energy is correlating to. In some readings you will find them identified by the nomenclature of a Royal Scale.

The King Scale, which correlates to the Divine World of Atziluth
The Queen Scale, which correlates to the Archangelic World of Briah
The Prince Scale, which correlates to the Angelic World of Yetzirah. This color is a combination of the King and Queen Scale colors of the sphere. In this way, you could think of Divinity (Atziluth) sending froth its Divine Messenger (Archangel of Briah) to command and guide the work to be done by the Angels (Yetzirah) that will extend into manifest creation (Assiah) .
The Princess Scale, which correlates to the Manifest World of Assiah. This color is the deepest hues and tones of the combination of the colors preceding it. This is also the densest form of those combined colors (often with flecks of light corresponding to the King or Queen scale colors) .

The Expression of Kether in the Four Worlds

Atziluth - The World of Archetypes- Deity
King Scale: Brilliance
The Great “I AM”

In the sphere of Kether, the principle of the Supreme Lord of Life is taken in its most literal sense. It is both formless and timeless and its energy is that of being the “cause” of manifest form. It is the Source from which all else came into being. In this sense we may place those Gods who are considered the Father’s or Rulers of all of the Gods. In this form we also see that Kether is not only the energy from which issues forth others, but that there is mastery and authority over that process and that what is brought into existence is so wholly a part of itself that it also is Divine in nature.

Briah – The Creation of a Concept - Archangelic
Queen Scale: White Brilliance
Metatron - “The Angel of the Presence ”

The Archangel Metatron is seen as Sandalphon in the world of Malkuth. His name is derived from the Greek "meta-ton-tronos" meaning "near thy throne". His is the energy that filters and moves the primal energy of the Creator towards its goal of manifestation. Metraton communes with the supreme Creator and instills in man the feeling of Divinity that stirs his aspiration upwards towards an evolved state of consciousness.

Yetzirah- Forming the Image of the Concept - Astral/Angelic World
Prince Scale: White Brilliance
The Four Holy Creatures

The entities that are attributed to the sphere of Kether are the Four Holy Creatures. The Four Holy Creatures are the Higher experience of the Kerubim of Malkuth in their evolved states which encompass the necessary foundations and components to produce Form from that which is Form-less.

These are represented as the Winged Man, the Winged Lion, the Eagle and the Winged Bull. We also see that these are the Fixed signs of the Zodiac: Aquarius – Leo – Scorpio – and Taurus.

The Winged Man-Aquarius-Intelligence-Devotion
The Winged Lion-Leo-Courage-Nobility
The Eagle-Scorpio-Swiftness-Aspiration
The Winged Bull-Taurus-Strength-Patience

These Fixed signs represent sustainability, longevity and permanence and form the central points or core of foundation. It is from this foundation that the energy of Kether flows in a Cardinal (building, burgeoning) method of creation and once that creation is stabilized, the energy is sent out in a Mutable (flexible, resilient) way of release towards its manifest form.

A further lesson of the action of the Four Holy Creatures lies in the law that in order to act as creator, we hold mastery over the elements that permeate the world (s) in which we are creating. These elements are that of:

(Aquarius) Air/breath or the speaking of the WORD
(Leo) Fire/Will and Desire to reach beyond the confines of itself
(Scorpio) Water/the condenser through which creative energy may be conducted
(Taurus) Earth/the container and the result of the creative effort.

And, in the case of Kether, the fifth element is that of Spirit. Kether is the Spirit to which we return and bring the Soul’s lessons of this incarnation to inform what is of and is all of our Divine nature. It is the synthesized, pure essence of Kether that transmutes those elements into useable creative form. It is fitting that these Four Holy Creatures also represent the Ages of Humanity. For Humanity as a collective whole Itself must transit through the elements of evolution before coming full cycle back to the primordial place of its collective creation.

Assiah- Active/Material World- Manifestation
Princess Scale: White Flecked with Gold
The First Swirlings

Kether is the Primum Mobile ~ an original creator, from the Latin meaning "first cause or first mover". These first swirlings are composed of Nebulae. Diffuse nebulae are clouds of interstellar matter, namely thin but widespread agglomerations of gas and dust. These are the swirlings of cosmic dust, which through its Force gave rise to Form.

The Spiritual Experience of Kether: The Vision Of Unity

The spiritual experience of Kether is that of the Vision of Unity. This is the Vision of Return, and in that return the individualization of the whole is unified once again. In this rarified state the formless nature of its energy, the thought or idea of separateness is no longer valid. This is the state of the final initiation of death, when manifest form is released and Spirit moves again towards it original pattern that is one and the same as the cosmos from which it came.

The Magickal Image: "An Ancient Bearded King Seen in Profile "

The Magickal Image of Kether is that of an Ancient Bearded King Seen in Profile. This image immediately evokes several trains of thought. The figure is that of a King; a title which denotes a state of authority and command. The fact that this King is Ancient and Bearded brings the dynamics of time; or more aptly the passing a large amount of time. This is authority that has been tempered by experience. This is a state of maturity; rather than the fool-hearty and impetuous nature of youth. This figure is seen in profile and provides another key to the mystery of Kether. For, none may see the face of the creator in all its glory and remain incarnate existence.

Personal Study: The Living Tree-Journaling

Finding Your Place of Creation:

Think back about something that you want to manifest in your life. Think on how you will go about this process. Write in your journal each step you will take towards that goal. Plan it our in as much detail as possible. Read through what you have written and think on how you have taken a formless idea and put it into a concrete, written form. Now, begin your creative emanation of manifestation knowing that you are a reflection of the Crown of Kether.
