Handfasting of Priestess Kandi Ranson and Dwayne Paul King.

Written by Copyrite 2008 Priestess Kandi Ranson all rights reserved

The ceremony is to be held outdoors; at a crossroads; on the first quarter moon (waxing) . The bride will not be dressed in a traditional wedding gown.

The couple will wear their choice of clothing for the ceremony. The bride often wears red, but this one will be wearing black. Both are wearing black hooded robes. This symbolizes death to the old life and birth of the new. A circle is formed on the ground. It is large enough to handle then entire wedding party, and guests, with plenty of empty space in the center for the ceremony. Candles will mark the four cardinal directions. The temple is erected.

An altar is located near the center of the circle. It is large enough to support the marriage documents; an athame; chalice; drinking horn; libationbowlwine; bread; ribbons; sword; candles; wand, and rings. A broomstick is laid beside the altar. Wildflowers may be spread inside the circle.

8:08 PM

Priest: There are those in our midst who seek the bonds of hand fasting.
Priestess: Let them be named and brought forward.
Priest: shouts out “Dwayne Paul King and Priestess Kandi Ranson come forward.
The Groom and Guardians move to the alter, awaiting the bride.
Maidens of honor will exit from the front door of the house and descend down the stairs , followed by the bride.

The bridal party stands to the Left of the Grooms Party.

The bride is facing the Priest and the Groom the Priestess.

Friends and family are gathered around the circle.

The Couple face the alter.
Priestess to Dwayne: Are you, Dwayne Paul King?
Dwayne: I am
Priestess: Do you come willingly?
Dwayne: I Do.
Priestess: What is your desire?
Dwayne: To be made one with Priestess Kandi in the eyes of the Goddesses and Gods.

Priest to Kandi: Are you Priestess Kandi Ranson?
Priestess Kandi: I am
Priest: Do you come willingly?
Priestess Kandi: I do
Priest: What is your desire?
Priestess Kandi: To be made one with Dwayne in the eyes of the Goddesses and Gods.

Priestess: Asks the couple to face each other and hold hands, then places the hand fasting ribbons around the hands and wrists to "join" the couple.

Priestess: "These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.

Priest: These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future. These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.

Priestess: These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears form your eyes; tears of sorrow, and tears of joy.

Priest: These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.

Priestess: These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it. And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

Priest: Now raise your hands so that all can see.

As the Priestess Calls to the powers of the quarters each of the quarter Gate Keepers quickly move into place.
Priestess:In times past it was believed that the human soul shared characteristics with all things divine. It is this belief which assigned virtues to the cardinal directions; East, South, West and North. It is in this tradition that a blessing is offered in support of this ceremony.

Priest Facing East Gate Keeper: Blessed be this union with the gifts of the East. Communication of the heart, mind, and body Fresh beginnings with the rising of each Sun. The knowledge of the growth found in the sharing of silences.

Priestess Facing South Gate Keeper: Blessed be this union with the gifts of the South. Warmth of hearth and home The heat of the heart's passion The light created by both To lighten the darkest of times.

Priest Facing West Gate Keeper: Blessed be this union with the gifts of the West. The deep commitments of the lake The swift excitement of the river The refreshing cleansing of the rain The all encompassing passion of the sea.

Priestess North South Gate Keeper: Blessed be this union with the gifts of the North. Firm foundation on which to build Fertility of the fields to enrich your lives A stable home to which you may always return.

Gatekeepers move back to stand beside the bride and groom.

Priest: Each of these blessings from the four cardinal directions emphasizes those things which will help you build a happy and successful union. Yet they are only tools. Tools which you must use together in order to create what you seek in this union.

Priestess takes up sword and raises it high.

Priest:
We call upon you in the guise of Eros, Kindler of desire,
Bringer of love,
to join us here and witness the bonding
of Dwayne Paul King and Priestess Kandi Ranson.

Priestess:
We call upon you in the guise of Aphrodite,
Always desirous one,
Sensual lover,
to join us here and witness the joining
of Dwayne Paul King and Priestess Kandi Ranson.

Priestess replaces sword on alter, then takes up that wand and removes Priestess Kandi’s ring, and hands it to the Guardian standing closest to the groom. Then takes athame and holds the point of it to the groom’s chest.

Groom repeats the following line by line after her.

Priestess: Repeat after me: I Dwayne Paul King do come here of my own freewill to seek the partnership of Priestess Kandi. I come with all love, honor and sincerity, wishing only to become one with her whom I love. Always will I strive for Priestess Kandi’s happiness and welfare. Her life will I defend before my own. May the athame be plunged into my heart should I not be sincere in all that I declare. All this I swear in the names of the Goddesses and Gods, for as long as our love shall live. May they give me strength to keep my vows. So mote it be.

Priestess lowers athame.Guardian hands Dwayne the ring and he places it on Priestess Kandi’s ring finger on her left hand saying:

"With my hands I give you my heart, and crown it with my love."
Heart to thee,
Soul to thee,
Body to thee,
Forever and always,
So mote it be."

Priest then takes up that wand and removes Dwayne’s ring and then hands it to the Maiden standing closest to Priestess Kandi then takes athame and holds the point of it to the brides chest.Bride repeats the following line by line after him.

Priest: Repeat after me: “I Priestess Kandi Ranson do come here of my own freewill to seek the partnership of Dwayne. I come with all love, honor and sincerity, wishing only to become one with him whom I love. Always will I strive for Dwayne’s happiness and welfare. His life will I defend before my own. May the athame be plunged into my heart should I not be sincere in all that I declare. All this I swear in the names of the Goddesses and Gods, for as long as our love shall live. May they give me strength to keep my vows. So mote it be.”

Priest lowers the athame and places it on the alter.Maiden hands Priestess Kandi the ring and she places it on Dwayne’s ring finger on his left hand saying:

"With my hands I give you my heart, and crown it with my love."
Heart to thee,
Soul to thee,
Body to thee,
Forever and always,
So mote it be."

Priestess: Above you are the stars, below you are the stones, as time doth pass, remember... Like a stone should your love be firm, like a star should your love be constant. Let the powers of the mind and of the intellect guide you in your union, let the strength of your wills bind you together, let the power of love and desire make you happy, and the strength of your dedication make you inseparable. Be close, but not too close. Possess one another, yet be understanding. Have patience with one another, for storms will come, but they will pass quickly. Together you are one, apart you are nothing.

Priest announces “Three firsts as a Couple".

Priestess: “And now, as in all marriages, you have certain duties towards each other.

She pours wine from the decanter into the chalice, and passes the Chalice into the Bride and Groom's left hands which are bound together. She then takes up the athame from the altar and passes it into the Bride and Groom's right hands, above the cup. Their hands and arms thus describe the sign of perpetuity.

Priestess: “As the knife is to the lover, so is the cup to the beloved”

The Couple lowers the knife into the cup, saying:

“And conjoint, they bring blessedness."

Priestesstakes the knife from them, and holds it.

The couple pours a libation, as an offering to the Goddesses, Gods, and the Higher Powers That Be.
Priestess takes the chalice from the Bride and Groom, and then blesses the bread, “Gods and Goddesses bless this bread”

Priest takes up the drinking horn.

Priestess then pours from her cup, into the drinking horn.
The Priest places the horn into the couple's free hands:

Priestess:This is your first drink together. May you never thirst!

Bride holds cup for Groom while he drinks, Groom holds cup for Bride while she drinks; then Priest returns the drinking horn to the altar.

Priest breaks bread, offering a part to the Gods, and giving a piece each to Bride and Groom:

Priestess: This is your first food together. May you never hunger!”

Groom holds bread for Bride while she eats.Bride holds bread for Groom while he eats. If any is left over they return it to the altar.

Guardian and Maiden place the Broom down on the ground about 1.2 meters (4 feet) south of the Main Altar. They hold the ends of the Broom in place upon the ground.

Priestess: “This will be your first leap of faith together.”

Maiden gives bouquet to Bride, who holds it in her free hand.

The couple jump the Broom.

Priestess: By the powers vested in me by the State of South Carolina, County of Horry and by the Elders of our Faith, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss now. (they kiss, as long as it takes them to do so.)

Priest: What you have here done together with one another, let no one break apart.

Priestess: May the Goddesses and Gods take notice of, and be favorably inclined toward your union, and may you be blessed with health, prosperity and fruitfulness, from this day forth and forevermore.

Priestess and Priest in unison: So mote it be!

Bid farewell to God and Goddess.

Priest: We thank you Eros, for your presence here this day, And ask, as you take your leave, that you leave in each of us, the ability to be a Bringer of desire, and kindler of love. Hail and farewell.

Priestess: We thank you Aphrodite, for your presence among us, And as you take your leave, we ask that you leave among us, in each of us, the ability to each be Sensual lover, and desirous one. Hail and farewell.

Dismiss the Quarters, and open the circle.
