| Art: Our Manifestation of Will and Inspiration

I think it is good to become craft person with an expressive form of art; it is a way to share your soul with the world and helps to internalize belief and to give it a real footing in you mind and the world around us.
In our cycle of life, we all have some inner light, a perspective outlook on life that is unique to us. And like every individual raindrop on a pond, we will create an ever-growing circle. People create circles of influence from our individual selves by sending out thoughts or actions. We affect every other circle we come into contact with. Even though our individual drop of water is only a small part of the pond of Humanity, our existence resonates across the whole of it.
I never thought that much about time. For me, if I see someone once every 8 years or so, I enjoy them as if we never been apart. I do not worry too much about this. My wife finds it odd that I can go so long without seeing family and then just take up where we left off. For me, the people I know, the fun or thoughts we share, are the most important part of conversing. I have known so many people, now lost to time, and even though we will never again share a moment of conversation, I am always happy to have known them.
Every thought others share with us becomes a part of us and our thoughts become a part of them. In some way, this is immortality, for my actions today will affect not only me but also every person I meet and every person they meet like a wave across time, space, and the infinity of humanity. Yes your actions today will affect people that you will never know. A person may never know that they were moved by your actions from a few moments ago or a century ago. So what we create will live on long after we are gone, even it is only as an inspiration in another work.
I find that expressing myself with god and goddess inspired items is fun. It also brings me closer to understanding them in a more personal way. Reading or researching the various gods is great for understanding the nature of the metaphors for God in a cultural context and to how they were represented. Many cultures still have all of the stories of the gods intact; others, like the Celtic Pantheon, may be little more than recorded names. However, by understanding the other nature-based religions and the roles their gods held in their cultural metaphors that the society was built around, you can understand and recreate a more solid image of the Celtic Pantheon.
Joseph John Campbell has much to say on the subject of gods and the comparative symbolism of them and how every culture creates the same gods fulfilling nearly the same role. When we craft items with them in mind, we cannot help but to be spiritually inspirited; we fill our conscious self and subconscious self with these energies that stay with us and forever change us long after the crafting is finished. For to craft an item is to make it part of us, drawing up emotions and feelings like a mother building a baby blanket. When the mother makes the blanket she is also thinking of the child it is for, weaving her emotions of love and protection into every stitch with a positive energy that will live on in the item. In the end, long after the child is outgrown the blanket, it will ever bring back the love and good solid memories of the baby it was for. Just the memory of the blanket fills the mother with comfort and love and creates a bonding in deeds that goes far beyond words.
ESP research has proven that spoken words are nearly impossible to send between minds, however emotions move easily between two minds and images attached to emotions just as quickly. The thoughts we read in an author’s craft and the people we meet and share our thoughts with are the most important aspects in personal development. They are the thoughts and ideas we use as a foundation to create the ‘us’ whom we share with other people, the ‘us’ we become by meeting and sharing thoughts.
On a side note: I believe we speak words as only part of communication. We are ever-broadcasting ESP images and emotions along with our words when we converse with others. It is the reason we may feel a moment of immediate like or dislike when we meet someone. (We either do or do not like the thoughts people are broadcasting around them.) This is also how a Bard may pull an audience into a story, for he is an adept at broadcasting his will in the form of images and emotions.
A group of people working together on a project or magical endeavor actually shares a momentary ‘hive’ mind. Creating a high energy level feels good and powerful while we share an emotional moment of creation. The longer we work with someone or a group of like minds, the more comfortable or familiar we become with their particular images and emotions. We begin to think of their thoughts as our own, and find it hard to draw a distinction between them. This is why, as a group, we will often think of the same Idea at the same moment. During these collaborations or get-togethers, we have personality traits that may only manifest when we are with them. When we leave them, we are left with thoughts and emotions we could of never have created from our own personal pallet of memories.
I have not been a big collector of much outside of books or rocks for my lapidary work. I find myself selling, giving away or trading many of my books, stones or craft items, as I will never use them all in this lifetime. As I am ever creating, I am ever finding ways to lighten my dwarven hoard of stuff. I have made many sales, some trades and always have some gifts to for my patrons and the New Wicca earth practitioners, Native American spiritualist, followers or the green earth, mystic believers, spiritualist, magical path, and some that follow for the poetic life it offers.
This ever-emerging group needs good talismans, amulets, and focus items, not stamped mass-produced tin pentagrams. Understand that thoughts, ideas, and intangible images are the genesis of focusing our will. Anything we shape , bend or form with our hands is a manifestation of will . These items will ever retain the will of the Crafter, Artisan and the properties of the combined elements of earth. These items will go on to have a life of their own, much as our children are shaped by us but are never truly us.
Words are also manifestation of will and books and incantations are the children some create. Your written words, though shaped by you, are never truly ‘you’, only a partial manifestation of your thoughts /will at that point in time. They will take on a life of their own over the years as others find them, read them and ponder them. They will continue to grow long after ‘you’ are gone.
Like all good craftsmen, we should continue to evolve, revisit old ideas and work to improve upon them. By reading this, I am so glad to have made contact with your circle. I hope my simple thoughts resonate well with you. Keep up the good work making those energy waves that shall continue to ripple across the ages.
Smile. Be happy and think good thoughts, as ever we are the sum of them.
Lee
