“The Moist One"...is the artist formerly known as Neptune by us sink-or-float human types. To immerse into the element of water suggests the spiritual, emotional, blissful but perhaps life threatening surrender, escapist, delusional and/or healing dreams and unbounded territories of the deepest oceans. However, in these times, we think we (know) more about water. Any and all kinds of water, science has studied and reported back with the results…we use it for everything and struggle to garner enormous supplies of it to survive.
We may have a difficult time imagining ourselves lost in or on the water like our early sea going ancestors, even though we can still get caught in a sudden storm while out at sea or even on a small pond, lake or river. I've nearly lost several close friends as recently as the last 20 years. But we think we know our way around the oceans and even the molecular properties of water.
With so much “knowledge” about water, it is still “invisible” to us… unless we look at the containers we put water in…plastic bottles, stainless steel canisters, plumbing, faucets, hoses, car radiators and car washes, saline drips, endless types of drinks, fountains, storage tanks, drinking straws...as well as what we use water for…I heard this week that it takes 700 gallons of water to make just one tee shirt.
We have nearly succeeded in the domination of water, we rarely get lost at sea, no longer overwhelmed by the power and imaged endlessness – only a click on the GPS and you know exactly where you are. We can always be found, never to be lost again.
We humans might consider our role as containers of water too. One giant community of food tubes and water sacks, gestating babies (in water sacks) , walking or running around, driving cars, throwing Frisbees for dogs, building houses, singing songs, seeking sustainability and so on and so forth. Perhaps recognizing ourselves in this type of weird description can help us to be more resonate and aware of ourselves as aligned within the properties of water - more flowing, more adaptable, more capable of seeking out our own absolute level like water always does…which water only does because of the depth of the water itself. It can sense itself as a unit.
We get to borrow some water for a time. It fuels us but at the same time actually creates our bodies. What will we do with it? How do we remember the importance of the water we carry - one of the basic elements of life? How can we regain our awareness of this element on a daily basis? ... perhaps to no longer seek a solution but to be the solution. We are the water. We are standing upright in water and we are taking the water with us. The water is using us; we are one with the water. Resistance is futile.
Somehow I came across pictures of the Red Lipped Bat Fish this week. In the dark phase of the moon, while composing this article, it's often the case where creatures, individuals from history or current times, characters from myth, legend, dreams and movies are known to dance across my cerebral cortex. They just sort of appear there, hovering like the cliché devil on one shoulder/ angel on the other shoulder. So as with anyone who drops by for a visit, I'll stop and see what's going on with them, and listen to what they bothered to come over to say to me.
This creature is a unique friend that lives on the Pacific Ocean floor at about 30 meters, off the coast of the infamous Galapagos Islands. I believe it was discovered around in 1958. It has fins that are more like legs, with red lips like something out of a Turner colorized movie from the 40’s and a protruding nose that has some type of signal device on it, luring in prey. It even appears to have human looking whiskers. Aside from the remarkable appearance, the fact that it “walks” with leg-like appendages on the ocean floor gives it a sort of parallel world experience to our own experience on the surface of the ground. Our own feet (body part correlating with Pisces) are considered to be the location of all of our nerve endings, a holding bay for emotions, intuition and perhaps even our subconscious memory.
While studying this creature on the internet, and contemplating having feet myself, I remember two personal experiences about feet…a massage friend accidentally or perhaps purposefully touching my foot in one secret spot and I burst into tears…finding myself in a completely emotional state with no conscious knowledge of what the true source was – something buried deep within my psyche, past experiences or even perhaps past lives. I also had another interesting experience when a friend studying stones and crystals applied various ones to the soles of my feet, and I experienced patterns running through my body matching the stone's patterns even though I had no academic knowledge of them, and one stone in particular stimulating a kind of recapitulation process for me, where I experienced a sensation of shape shifting energy that started with a fishlike shape and changed slowly through embryonic forms. Wild? Not really, just water amplifying and supporting.
Carry water in wisdom and spirit; honor the properties of fluidity.
Bright Blessings, Mary Anna
