| A Trained Mind: Part III

This essay will combine the experimental learning explained in my essays “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and “The Trained Mind”. Hopefully you have mastered these concepts; we proceed by combining these two. My reason for presenting this as a three-part essay is that most apprentice level Witches need time to digest, regurgitate and assimilate the material over a period of time. This is just human nature; first we roll over, then we crawl, then we stumble about and finally we walk. One of the principle problems with adolescent apprentice training is transferring information at a pace that will maintain interest, but not over load the individual with complex skills that require basic skills to accomplish.
In the first essay you created an energized pentacle in a slightly darkened room. We start there by sitting erect and creating our pentacle. Now we start our controlled breathing as described in “The Trained Mind”, drawing Prana in and exhaling the negative energy we have accumulated in our daily lives.
Some prefer to do so with bare feet on the Earth as this is a means of grounding the negative energies that cause us anger and pain. Others prefer a water source, such as a water fountain, commercially sold as an Environ Scrape to wash away the negative energies. Still others use a small fan blowing room air across them to cleanse the negative energy. I am pretty sure you have got the idea. It matters little what you use and is a matter of personal preference, unless you wish to remove a particular type of negative energy. The only form of Elemental grounding that I would prefer you not try to use until you are much more adept or at least have adult supervision would be Fire.
For this meditation I will move away from the simplistic “Ah … UU … MM” and move to a more specific mantra. We begin the exercise with a personal blessing, which is done by placing your power hand, normally an extended index finger at a charka vortex and pronouncing the evocation. These are sounds to align your inner spiritual being with your external Ego. These sounds are Not words, so please do not try to read some secret meaning into the sounds.
First place your power hand/finger at the third eye and speak: “Zod Ah”; moving to just under the left breast: “Oh En Doh”; moving to the right shoulder: “Mee Heh”; moving to the left shoulder: “Boo Zod Deh”; moving to just below the right breast: “Pah EE Deh” and back to the third eye and pronounce the mantra. This is the basic pentagram blessing; that is you have drawn a pentagram across your body while pronouncing the corresponding Enochian invocation. There is a number of appropriate mantra, but for this public meditation I feel a standard Pagan greeting would be appropriate at the novice or apprentice level.
Staring into the center of the pentacle you have visually created, focus your mental awareness on your forehead, singing “I”; moving consciousness to just above the top of the head, singing “O”; moving consciousness to third eye, singing “EH”; moving consciousness to pelvic center, singing “VO”; moving consciousness to heart, singing “HE” and repeating. Tones are “I” in your mid range, “O” up one note plus a sharp, “EH” down two notes, “VO” down a full seventh and “HE” up a fifth. Repeat the mantra, breathing in Prana for four seconds through your nose, then sing “I, O, EH, VO, HE.” Clear your mind of all thoughts other than you mantra. You can always add a particular deity name after the last tonal if you wish to become one with that aspect of the Devine. This mantra/greeting is a Paganization of the Hebrew call to God, JHVH or the proper word “YAHVEH”.
Woo! Stop the train! A Jewish mantra? Like I have said before, I am an eclectic. If Jewish mystics can use a tonal to become closer to the Devine, then why can’t we as Witches use a similar tonal? As long as the tonal and meditation works, why not use it.
The first deity name I would try after a few minutes of this mantra would be, “A … DON … AI … HA … A … AR … ETZ.” This is an alignment to the Sephira of Malkuth or our universe.
Now comes stage two in your approach evolution. Again I wish not to produce preconceived ideas, but I must tell you that very soon now you will meet a guide.
The guide is different for most people, those that say you should visualize a certain person, or animal or entity are introducing their visualization on you, be wary for that is their guide and not necessarily your guide. There are times when the first thing you “see” inside the Pentacle that may appear to be a guide, very well will not be your guide, but may be a displaced Spirit or Daemon. Disregard any threat that these displaced Spirits may make, as you control the pentagram and the energy of the pentacle combined with the boundary of the circle shall protect you. That which appears inside the pentacle is locked spiritually inside the pentacle center. It/they cannot leave accept with your permission.
You must be very careful to maintain your level of concentration and about what you allow to escape or these terrors may try to possess you. If these dark energies persist, form a Magick equal lateral triangle outside the circle to the northeast prior to the rite. When the unwanted dark powers appear, move them to the triangle, locking them in. Then continue with your pentacle work. At the end of the rite/ritual before clearing the circle, use a banishing spell to eliminate the presence of the dark side entities.
Everyone that I know who has met their guides has said that they knew immediately that the guide was theirs and that the guide was there to help them on their inner journeys. Your guide will aid you resolve your issues of anger. Ask the guide to take you somewhere and the entity will help you. Do not preconceive what your guide may be. Many Native Americans will tell you that the guide is a totem animal, while certain Buddhist faiths will call the guide the inner self, and then others will call the guide a traveler or the person of the white mist. Again, preconception will limit what your guide can be and a lack of limits will allow you to find your true guide, not some mischievous lower scale demon, like you would find in an Ouija board.
One of the first places you will want to go is the mundane world ... to see yourself from a new prospective. This is a time to evaluate what has happened in your life up to this time. This will be a time when you gain maturity, establishing your own individuality. You are unique; a beautiful person with wants and needs. You have a right to happiness and joy, so forget your anger. This is part of growing up.
This is not the same thing as astral travel in the body of light. When you travel into the Pentacle, do not forget to keep repeating your mantra, as this will keep your mind from wandering to far from the path. Control, you must learn control or great confusion you will suffer. Lack of focus can lead you astray; down the dark path it will lead you into necromancy. Center and ground your mind, repeat the mantra, focus, and follow your guide. Your guide is often not your true inner spiritual being but rather a deceased evolved spiritual being. Your guide may be an angel or other totally spiritual being such as a demigod or demigoddess.
Old friends you will see, some long dead. Worry not for these are the shades of day’s gone past, not current reality. You can experience the pain of long ago and release that pain with the love of today. Leave your emotional baggage behind, fill your self with the joy of knowing the truth. You now possess the ability to form and energize a pentacle at will. Use the symbol of power to charge the cardinal points of your circle during ritual. In times of stress, you can use the energized pentagram to rapidly draw a protective circle around you, filling it with white light from your mind. Driving down a road, create the energized pentagram just ahead of your vehicle to avert danger and alert small animals to your presence so they will not run in your path.
There is much to learn on the path of the Witch, i hope this helps.
Bless'd Be, Grey Ghost
