So Precious is TIme
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 05:34:44 (EST)

I have often thought that it would be good to contact some of the wonderful authors who gladden my heart and fill my mind of the wonders that the Lord and Lady can bring.
Sadly I have not acted upon this....and now a very important man has departed before i had the chance to say how much he and his family have enriched my life.

Memories of 1992 Spring Mysteries Festival
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 04:25:33 (EST)

Across a few feet of daisy strewn grass I saw a man standing with one foot on a picnic bench. Immediately I knew that was Stewart Farrar, he seemed to stand out from those around him. His white hair spoke of wisdom earned by living, his easy smile and sparkling eyes seemed full of a mix of mischeif and humor.

During the weekend of Spring Mysteries I grew to care about the Farrars as more than authors of books I had read. I hold him in my memories at closing circle laughing as Janet raced across the circle to greet Lorenzo who had been the Dark Lord for the weekend. Her fire and energy only served to make his eyes sparkle more. The deep love between them was obvious and insprirng.

Stewart will be missed, but his voice will echo through the community in the lessons learned from his work. Someone that vibrant can not leave the world unchanged.

Farewell to a Pleasant Man, a Witch, a Great Teacher
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 03:37:43 (EST)

Farewell, Stewart! You and Janet have been an inspiration throughout the past fifteen years of my study and practice of Alexandrian Wicca. I first purchased your books, A WITCHES BIBLE, Vol. I & II, in late 1984 or early 1985. Over the past 15 years, they have REMAINED my primary source or information for ritual planning and celebrations, even though I now have approximately 5 shelves of Craft-oriented books in my private library -- it is usually your reference that I pick up first. It is with the guidance of your initiation rituals that I took my first, second and third degrees in The Craft. Thank you!

I was pleased and honored to meet you, Janet and Gavin at a gathering in Florida in March, 1993. I have some lovely photos of you three from then. You were all very pleasant, non-assuming, sincere, and with wonderful senses of humor. The rituals you participated in with us there were powerful and inspiring. Thank you!

I know that you will be truly missed among those of us who have embraced The Craft.

Merry Meet, Merry Part & Merry Meet Again! Blessed Be!

Goodbye
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 03:18:11 (EST)

Dear Stewart Farrar,
As a student in Wicca, I had only just begun to learn about you and now my friend Lady Dravyn sent me to your guestbook, and I learned that you were gone. I am glad that you begin a new journey and that you are beginning a new life so that you may learn many new lessons. Your life as Stewart Farrar was important to many people. Thank you for your great contribution. I sincerely hope to learn more about you in my life.
Blessed Be, Captain Ike

In memory of a grand soul that touched my life in the most amazing way.
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 03:00:55 (EST)

First, my love and most sincere prayers to janet and stewart Farrar. The "Witches Bible" is the THE most influencial book I own. It is a cornerstone of my tradition and beliefs. A guide to true sight. I have read all of the Farrar's work and wished very much to meet or converse with Stewart or Janet someday. I hope I will get a chance to meet him in a another life. If there is anything I have learned from stewart and janet is that "Love is the law and love is the bond. So mote it be".Through the farrar's teachings and books, I have learned truth about myself and of the energies around me. They have positively impacted my life so greatly. The intellect, the passion, the love, the knowledge, and wisdom I have gained because of this wonderful man's exsistance is invalueable and ever present in every facet of my life. I deeply regret not being able to actually meet stewart. He will be remembered as a grand old soul. I was very emotional when I read this page. It almost felt like a part of myself had gone to the summerlands.I will remember you Stewart at Samhain and always. Thank you for the love, knowledge, and wisdom you shared with all of your readers.

Blessed be Stewart,
Blessed be Janet,
And blessed be to all,

You may be gone, but your work will live on
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 02:13:32 (EST)

Stewart:

You may be gone, but your great work will live on for ever. You brought light and joy to the lives of many of us with your writing. I thank you for the knowledge I was able to attain through your books and for so many hours of enjoyable reading. You stand among my favorite authors together with Doreen Valiente, Lady Sheba, and Sybil Leek. My most sincere condolences to Janet and Gavin. Stewart, may you rest in the arms of the gracious Goddess.
Sincerely,

A Great Man at Rest
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 02:09:21 (EST)

Though we never met in physical form, I felt your presence when I picked up "The Witches' Bible". That was a huge cornerstone in my path. For Stewart's family- my deepest sympathy for your loss. But rejoice in the fact that you knew him when you did and that our journey to Summerland will only be as a breath to him now.

So long Stewart
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 01:57:38 (EST)

I am sad to hear of Stewart Farrars passing. No, I didn't know him personally, but his, and his wife's book, The Witches Bible, was one of the first books I had read on the subject. A definite standing stone on my path, the book was engaging intellectually and spiritually.

Thanks Stewart.

What can I say...
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 01:55:57 (EST)

I have been studying for a few years now and I owe so much to both Farrars. I wish I was poetic or musical because I would definitely write something for him. He was a courageous man who wanted the truth about the Craft to be known and I'm thankful for the works he left behind for those of us who never got a chance to meet him in person. I send Janet and Gavin all the blessings in the world and thank you for writing all that you have!

Joyous Passage, Brother
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 01:50:01 (EST)

Though I never was able to work with you physically, my brother, I can still say that it was good working with you as a fellow warrior in the ways of our People. You brought to me a new perspective none but you could have done. Your Magick changed the world, and we thank you for it. The Gods smile upon you now, and may they hold you in their loving arms and rest you in bliss in reward for your undying faith. You have inspired me and given me the Golden Key to the Universe, wherein all joy lies. For your gifts, I cannot thank you enough. May we work together again soon, and may the Faeries take good care of you, my mentor, my brother, my fellow warrior, my beloved friend.
Janet, I give my utmost blessings to you to help you through these times. You shine as a guiding star for those seeking in the darkness for truth and light. May the Lord and Lady give you their hands to bear you through and comfort you in these times of darkness. We'll all get to swap tales together around the Bel-Fires eventually. I'm sure Stuart and Doreen are catching up now!
Blessings, and Farewell, Stuart Farrar. May the four winds bear you safely home!

Farewell to a Great Man
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 01:23:15 (EST)

I have been studying wicca for 1-1/2 years. I have read most, if not all of Stewart and Janet's books. They are full of such knowledge and truth. Janet and Stewart have been so influential in the pagan/wiccan community and a part of more people's lives then they will ever know.

Stewart will be missed. Janet, my heart goes out to you. Although Stewart is at Peace in the Summerland, it is tough to lose your lifemate from this realm. I cannot imagine mine passing on without me.

Blessings of Peace, Memories of Love and Joy,

From one trad to another
Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 00:49:35 (EST)

I am a second generation Witch, as taught by Gavin and Yvonne Frost. When Janet and Stuart started becoming prominent in Wicca, a lot of people started wondering if there was going to be a giant "Witch War" between Gavin and Stuart. My understanding of their first (and only, to my knowledge) meeting is that they had a wonderful time together, and there was no animosity. I would like to think this was a huge step towards bringing the entire Pagan community together as a whole.

Stuart Farrar will be greatly missed. He possessed a great deal of knowledge and maturity, something we could all profit from. I expect my next meeting with Gavin Frost will be much more poignant than I had thought previously.

This really brings home the fact that we are all mortal. Make your choices wisely.

Thank you, Stuart. And thank you, God and Goddess. Blessed be.

Until We Meet Again
Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 23:27:10 (EST)

Several years ago Stewart and Janet visited Toronto, Canada, where I had the wonderful opportunity to listen to their lecture. Then, on the Sunday, I was given the honour of meeting them in person, even sharing Circle with Janet while Stewart guested another Circle. Stewart came over afterwards and was reserved, very friendly and carried himself with the dignity and grace that I would hope to aspire to. Brightest of blessings as you join the Brethren in the here-after.

For the courage to publish your work, for the honesty therein, for the peace you inspired in me, for the lessons I share with my students learned from your teachings. Thank you for being a light in the darkness, a guide on a road few travel. Your thoughts and knowedge live on in me, my students and my children. May your journey be blessed, your rest soul filling and your return awe inspiring.

For entering my life on beautiful day in Chelmsford MA. I walked into the book signing/tea with expectations of meeting famous people. I left with the feeling of having spent the afternoon with a dear old wise friend and his family. Since then I have become active in practicing the path outside of my solitaire way. Steward's deep and gentle words, Janet's bright joyful conversation, and Gavin's strong devotion all helped a timid solitare to move on to the Godess in every way.
Bright Blessings Steward.
Merry meet, merry part and merry meet again.

Thanks for Helping me "Come Home"
Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 21:24:51 (EST)

In the summer of 1993, I was reading astrology books in a bookstore when a book fell off the shelf above and literally openned in front of me. It was "Witches Bible". Within minutes of quick reading several pages, I knew that I had found a name to call what I always knew as Truth: Wicca. By Samhain of that year, I was fully a studying Witch, and have always owed a debt of gratitude to Stewart & Janet. Their clear and level-headed writing allowed me to understand that I was not alone. I will always honor the Farrar's - even if I never am "officially" a "Gardnerian" Witch, through their writings I am able to truthfully consider myself Wiccan. Thank you to Stewart, and thank you also to both Janet and now to Gavin for continuing the work. Blessed Be!

Thank you, Stewart Farrar
Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 20:33:02 (EST)

Stewart had a profound impact on my journey in the Craft. It was from the books he and his wife, Janet, wrote that I first learned in detail about the Alexandrian style of the Craft. I was initiated into the Craft in an Alexandrian style coven, which was under the Coven of the Crystal Castle. To all of us, he was a dear friend, actually more a family member. I regret that I had never met him, though I hold him in the highest regard.

To Janet and Gavin, and all who were very close to Stewart, I send my heartfelt energy. Our hearts and thoughts are with you.

Stewart, blessed be.

Dear Janet and Gavin:
Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 20:17:30 (EST)

With heavy heart, my thoughts turn to you both at this sad and lonely time. Know that your friends around the world grieve with you both. Although I was not fortunate enough to have met Stewart, he did come into my dreams twice, both times as a teacher with me at his feet listening to him talk as he lounged in an easy chair. I shall never forget those dreams, and the impact they had on my life afterwards. I look forward to dreaming Stewart again in the future, whether he comes to teach me once again or to just pop in for a smile and a "hello."

Blessings on you both.

A Light In The Dark
Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 20:04:36 (EST)

Oh Grand Magician,
Watch over your children.
Continue to guide the world toward a path of serenity,
Love, and enlightenment.
Your presence in this realm will be forever missed!
As you weave golden threads in the Summerland,
Smile back upon this existence and be proud for all
Which you selflessly gave.
The groundwork has been laid,
And many seeds have been planted.
Rest now and watch as this mortal coil
Bears the fruit of your efforts.
May the world remember your spirit with every sunset,
And your divine courage with every shooting star!
By the power of all that is:
Bright Blessings to you, kind soul!
And 10,000 Blessings upon your house,
May light and love fill your loss.
Merry Meet and Merry Part Until We Merry Meet Again!

*Your Encouraging words shall ring true forever!*

What's there to say. So much and yet so little. Your and Janet's were among the first I read when I put my first feeble steps on the path of Wicca. Your Witches Goddess and Witches God are still a major source of knowledge.

And then I discovered you were a novelist too. A friend om mine lent me Omega and another novel, I believe it was called Seven Maidens. I loved them.

The first time we met, you signed my books. Later me and my partner met you met again in your home. To us you were an impressive, yet gentle giant. A wonderful old man, kind and loving. We will miss you.

Dear Janet and Gavin

Our deepest sympathies. We wish you strenght now and in the days to come.

"Going Home"
Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 15:52:44 (EST)

I learned of Stewart Farrar's passing via a telephone call from my mentor and teacher in Phoenix, Arizona. The call came one day after Stewart's departure for the Summerland on February 7th, 2000. Janet had been in touch with my mentor, Corrine, who, knowing that I am English born and raised, felt I would want to know. Being quite a newcomer to the Old Religion, I never had the opportunity to meet Stewart in person, but have 'devoured his and Janet's books avidly in pursuit of learning - as have legions before me, as will any serious Wiccan postulant in time to come. I found myself, strangely, moved to tears at the news, and later that day held a small, solitairy ritual to honor the man, and all his represented.

I have just now retrieved Stewart's obituary, and was singularly amazed and comforted to learn that he was born in Highams Park, Walthamstow, London. My own family are all from that area, and I was born not far from there, myself. I know the place well. I found great comfort and encouragement, too, in knowing that Stewart was well into his fifties when he came to emrace Wicca, being initiated in 1970. I, too, am at that particular 'milestone' agewise, and have sometimes wondered if I can still catch up and learn all I need to learn - if there will be time in this mundane life to embrace it all? I am singularly encouraged to know that Stewart Farrar did not himself come to the Craft early in life.

Janet and Gavin, we have not met in person, only through the written, page, but my spirit comes to you as surely as if we had met, bearing comfort. May the Path of the Future be as Blessed as it has been in the Past. Merrylyn.

a loving wife's words
Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 14:33:31 (EST)

Janet,
I just read your Valentine's Day greeting to Stewart...I thank you from my heart for sharing such poetic and beautiful words with us all in your time of grief and sorrow.

These words moved me to tears of sadness and yet also brought me joy when I thought of your marriage to this incredible man: what a life of love and passion and magic you must have shared!

Again, I honor you for sharing these intimate thoughts...I honor you for your strength which inspires us all.

Farewell...Until we do meet again
Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 14:27:30 (EST)

It has not been long that I have realized that something was amiss - Attempts to reach Janet and Stewart's web page were met with indicators that the page was not available. I had seen interviews with Janet recently and there was a distinct absence of Stewart - who had been so instrumental in the writing of their books and articles.

Confirmation that Stewart is no longer with us is news that will be difficult to accept, especially in light of the fact that we have bid farewell to Doreen Valiente so recently. But it is his own confirmation in reincarnation from the "Witches Way" and the recollection of his previous lives that allow those of us who have not had the opportunity to meet him, Janet or Gavin (yet) to know that he has gone to the other side to do the unseen work that allows life on this side to proceed.

Blessings to you, Janet and to Gavin. I wish you Joy in your knowing Stewart for the time you did, Peace in your realization that the spark that is Stewart lives on and Intention to carry on in the work undertaken already. Those of us who have read your words and understand your work send our loving thoughts to you in our modest ways, now and in the future.

Brightest of Blessings, Peace and Love,

Tribute to Farrar
Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 13:38:24 (EST)

This is my tribute to Stewart Farrar. I am no poet and I know it is corny but I felt I had to contribute something.

You changed the lives,
of many people.

Those who felt
very feeble.

Those who could not decide,
which path to follow,

You guided to our path,
full of love, not sorrow.

You showed them the ways,
in which to live,

To honour the Goddess,
for all she will give.

You will not be forgotten,
that is for sure.

No matter what,
this world can concur.

*P.S. "concur" is pronounced "cun-cer". It is not supposed to be conquer. I don't know if I spelled it right. Probably not.

Family
Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 12:32:32 (EST)

It is rather hard to express in words the gratitude of millions of people, for his work (and his family's)and his commitment to the craft. No matter how many lifetimes we may live or lead - he shall always be known. There is a deep well of sentiment in the hearts of every witch and pagan, and in our continued efforts to provide a positive and lucritive faith in today's world, Stewart's vision shall always live on in the work of "family". May you find peace in the Elusian fields, my lord! Merrily we shall meet again.

Merry Part, until we meet again
Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 12:12:41 (EST)

Our Mother Earth was touched by a man we know as Stewart, and to many was a father and mentor of the craft of the wise. Coming in touch with the Gods, bending reality through magick and creating positive change from within and to the planet. By this, Stewart's writing gracefully spilled across the pages of time, reaching across oceans in celebrating the wheel of the year of life and death. Stewart will be missed, and our memory of him will forever be passed on. Thank you Stewart for sharing your soul with all of us.
