Pagan Clergy

Lady Pythia

Located in: Kent, Ohio

Clergy Profile: I'm a Witch, an Elder HPS in the Covenant of the Goddess, and have been Legal Clergy in Ohio since 1985, thru CoG. My Traditions include Elder, HPS, Pagan Way and HPS, North American Celtic Traditional Witchcraft, Well of Avalon Line.

Grew up knowing I was born a Witch at age 5, when the first of many identical Past Life dreams had me lighting a hilltop fire with others nearby in the past, maybe 1700's in the Sacred Isles.
The 'dreams" ceased when I began my Moons, and decades later, realized that I had been conceived the year the Anti-Witchcraft Laws were abolished in England. For Halloween I never wore a mask and tried to tell people that Witches were GOOD folk, not the caricatures.

I learned 23 years later that the "dreams" had a different "me" living the nighttime part of Beltain, re-lighting the fires on hilltops throughout the land prior to a great evening Feast!

Although I am limited now medically, , I still do some Elder-Work, and Coven-referrals if possible. In addition, I am an Elder HPS in the Midwest Region Local Council of The Covenant of the Goddess.

Most of my Work is done via phone, Facebook ( Marybeth Pythia I've been an astrologer for 30 years, utilizing a quick glance at my ephemeris before I do premarital, individual, or couple counseling.

With 2 other Witches, I founded the WitchMage Tradition, an Eclectic Traditional Craft Coven in mid 70's based on our ingestion of original ancient Mythos, and the writings of RB, Gardner, Dorreen Valiente, and experiences ingested at the very first Witch festivals. We later added to our Coven Workings and energies that which I brought from my Pagan Way Inner Court Init/Elev., late 70's, early 80's.

The Coven of the Floating Spiral facilitated experiential Magickal Journies and Mystery Circles at Starwoods, and then facilitated the 1989 Covenant of the Goddess MerryMeet/Grand Council Gather at Circle Pines, Michigan, at which Starhawk led her very first Triple Spiral Dance! In addition, we helped facilitate the Harmonic Convergence on the Great Serpent Mound, teaching Goddess Chants and leading a Spiral Dance to awaken the Serpent to the "Medicine Peoples" of this time, re-sacralizing the Sacred Site for these times of the Star Children.

Our Daughter Covens have been varied and autonomous, for although my Initiates and Elevants had to study for years, as Clergy in any Seminary study, I/we taught much in Circles, by the doing of the Work.

As Witches who studied and worked from Hedgewitchery to the "High" Magicks, hence evolved our name. We also incorporated Pathworkings of the QBLH, Rune study and some Strega, strong interests of our founding Three. We believe that our Witches can work Above and Below and should be able to connect with Witches of all ilk, and as Occultists as well. There is no disparity, for the Root in the Earth leads to the Crown!

Since 1980, I've performed Handfastings &/or Legal Marriages in Ohio and other states and am still legal Clergy, not as a "Reverend, " but as High Priestess, with both Craft and mundane name on my State license, through the auspices of The Covenant of the Goddess. One of my most profound interests has been Interfaith, which I've had the opportunity to address during a number of Handfastings &/or Weddings...
all the while knowing that the true Craft will best survive as it has in the Inner Courts among the Hidden Children of the Goddess.
And the Covenant of the Goddess has led the way with Witch High Priest/esses "coming out" and validating the legality and legitimacy of our multifaceted Goddess-Pagan Path, that lies or ignorance may no longer be used against we who wear the Star.

For decades I was the Public Information Officer for Ohio Local CoG Council, and worked as a police/public consultant on Occult Crime - Non-Wiccan! -both in Ohio and surrounding States. In addition, I was the first "out of the Broom Closet" Witch in Kent, as I had been as an undergraduate elsewhere and at KSU for Grad school; later, "out" as a Teacher of English at 2 Ohio Universities. In addition, I was one of the top National Finalists for the Danforth Fellowships.

I've been an extant Poet, an herbalist, Occultist, peace activist, and "amateur" jeweler. Along with my most incredibly talented Sister (also Craft) , our healing oriented jewelry (along with much custom work) and works of art are featured on WittchDocCreations on Ruby Lane. Creations.

Almost all of the stone lore, including Chakra meanings etc. comes from my decades of working with the Sacred Bones of Mother Earth, which I used the bare outlines of when teaching my Coven or other groups in the past.

Also, I have performed as a musician (with Todd Alan, as Oracle in the mid-80's, the first Pagan Rock band) as vocalist, writer, and "ear." Our music is "Moon Magick" which is presently available only on cassette tape) , and "Earth Magick" which was recently released on CD. As well, I was a vocalist on "Carry Me Home" and performed vocals, keyboards, and a bit of writing on Isaac Bonewits' "Be Pagan Once Again."

The new Millenium brought me a Blessing, becoming an Initiate and Elevated HPS in the North American Celtic Tradition, Well of Avalon line.

I am a published poet, a perpetual scholar and past lecturer of Comparative Religions and Goddess Studies... and continue to attempt to live my life in Service to the Goddess.

Presently, I am an Elder Solitaire in the Midwest Regional Local Council of the Covenant of the Goddess who hosted
MerryMeet/Grand Council 2010 in Indianapolis.
