Summerland of North Texas

Category: Facilities

Website Profile: Summerland, a North Texas Pagan Retreat! It's about time! For years, I've read about all the wonderful ritual and retreat places available in various states. Those Pagans are use to having easy access to events. Those of us in Texas are very use to driving hours to get to any event. What if we wanted to have a BIG celebration? Well, that's the solution that James Stevens has come up with. James and his family lives North of Decatur, TX and has owned a farm there since the early 1900s. James had a dream of not having to drive for hours and hours to get to a Pagan event. This past year, James has made this dream come true, not only for himself, but for the rest of us in the North Texas area too. James has fensed off a few acreas just for this purpose. This land is now known as Summerland. The land is still in fairly raw form, but James has created a ritual area that has a Stonehenge theme, a beautiful large Oak Tree for handfastings, a large area for venders, a staging area, and a campground about a half mile away. James' dream has been for ALL North Texas and Southern Oklahoma Pagans to have a place to call home. The entrance has two great stones that he has placed there as a memorial to all those that want to have their ashes scattered on the hill. Their names can be engraved or rivited with a plaque for all to see as they enter the property.
During the building of Summerland, James has been fighting cancer and still finds the time an energy to work on the land. When we found out about James' dream, Michael J. created a yahoo group called Summerland Of Texas in hopes of getting us involved in building this great dream. Yes, it's an hour or so North of the DFW area, but it's not a 4 hour drive anymore. We are needing manpower to help James finish this dream for all of us to use this retreat. Recently, we have started a drive to get Summerland ready for it's first BIG celebration, Samhain. If you are interested in helping, or attending the public events, please go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SummerlandofTexas/ and see what's going on. Let's all have a North Texas Samhain celebration at our new home!
