Durham Pagans Workshop - April

When: Apr. 21st. 2013 - Apr. 21st. 2013
Where: Oshawa, Ontario

It's Different In Durham

Event Details: 10am - 11am: Eclectic Pagan Ritual Construction $10
Preregister at durhampagans@gmail.com

Many pagan traditions, from Wicca to Asatru to Druidry and more, have structured ritual outlines for devotees to follow when planning a celebration or working. For the eclectic pagan outside a structured tradition, however, ritual formats are not as clear-cut.

This one-hour discussion will provide one eclectic pagan’s perspective on planning rituals for both groups and solitary settings. Whether you use spreadsheets to plan rituals or you prefer to work in the moment without a defined outline, all rituals are acts of worship – you just need to find the process that works best for you.

About the Speaker:

Aubrey Adams has been a practicing pagan for two decades, starting as a young teen trying to find information in the budding world of online paganism; as a member of 4 covens; president of an active university pagan society; and as a solitary practitioner attending public rituals in between.

1pm-3pm: Sacred Stories $10
Preregister at durhampagans@gmail.com

Sacred Stories: Narrative as Magic and Sacrament
How can you provoke an experience of the gods? How do you connect the events in your life to the deep themes of the sacred? Would you believe it may be as simple as telling a story? Come discover the powerful, passionate, and sometimes playful, purpose of myth.

In this blend of cool lecture and hot tale-telling, we will examine the value of myth by exploring Celtic and other Indo-European narratives as a means of honouring the gods and bringing blessings upon the teller and the audience. With stories from Ireland we will let the magic flow!

About the Speaker:

Brian Walsh has been actively interested in Paganism for 30 years and has been a priest in the Céilí Sídhe tradition of Celtic Paganism since 1990. He holds a B.A. in Celtic Studies and Religious Studies from the University of Toronto, as well as an M.Phil. from the University of Wales. His book, The Secret Commonwealth and the Fairy Belief Complex (2002) was based on his Masters thesis on fairy beliefs and Second Sight in Early Modern Scotland.

Having obtained his Advanced Certification from the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care in 2007, and his Specialist Certification in 2012; Brian currently works as a clinical spiritual care provider at a major Toronto hospital. Brian has also been serving as a Pagan chaplain at the University of Toronto since 2002, and, as a licensed Wedding Officiant, he is able to perform legal weddings in the province of Ontario.
Brian's passions include Spirituality, Wellness, Celtic Studies, World Religions, Mythologies, Story-Telling, Drumming, and Dogs.
