Event Details: FHC will be hosting another round of Wicca 101 starting in 2004. Classes will tentatively begin in January and a separate online discussion list has already begun for those participants to get acquainted and start receiving updates. The first assignments will be posted sometime in December so that everyone will have a head start and we can hit the ground running on the first day that we meet.
The class itself is basic Eclectic Wicca, and is open to anyone Pagan friendly. Being Wiccan is not a requirement for the class as I've had successful graduates of all Pagan persuasions. Beginners and more experienced practitioners are all welcome. Participants are simply required to be at least 18 years old. So far the 2004 class has a great bunch of folks from a variety of backgrounds with a wide age range. It looks to be a great class! The class will meet once a week for 20 weeks in Florence. The class is free! Right now we've got folks coming from Florence as well as Huntsville and Decatur so there may well be ways to share rides if transportation is an issue.
The class will begin at ground level with common terminology and move through history, ethics, magickal tools, altars, Deity-concepts, Esbats, Sabbats and all aspects of traditional circle casting. There will be research projects and presentations thrown in on a wide variety of topics. There will be hands on learning and demonstration of methods. A book of shadows will be compiled and each participant will have the opportunity to demonstrate their personal methods on creating sacred space, altars and building rituals. There will be crafts and exposure to energy raising techniques such as chanting and drumming and practice in grounding and guided meditation. If there is time we'll be touching on divination, herbal magick and candle magick. There will be testing of the materials through written exams and by demonstration. Students will be given frequent journal topics to turn in or share with the class. The final project will be a class written and performed group ritual.
