Dark Forest Coven is hosting public NROOGD Samhain at the Palo Alto Unitarian Church, 505 East Charleston Road, Palo Alto CA 94306 on Saturday, October 27th. Gather at 6:30pm, circle begins at 7pm with the setting sun.

The ritual is revamped and improved version of the "New Orleans's Second Line, with Papa Ghede's Boneyard Boogie." A good ol' gospel second line through the veil.

This is a musical ritual with emphasis on opening the western gate and inviting our honored dead to live, feast, sing and dance with us again. It is a reminder of how important the present moment is in our daily lives, because at this time next year the chair across from you at the table may be empty.

Participants are encouraged to bring an item for the ancestor altar, and the picture of any loved ones who have passed to be set in the Spirit House. Part of the working will be to guide our loved ones in taking their place as honored ancestors beyond the veil and assist those in the circle with moving their grief so they may work with their beloved dead as ancestors.

This ritual brings music and dance to turn the wheel and swing wide open the gate to the other side. We will celebrate life and cherish our dead. If you play an instrument bring it and join the second line in a lively collection of pagan gospel hymns. All participants are encouraged to dress in their finest and bring white handkerchiefs, parasols, top hats and masks.

There is a pot-luck feast to follow where participants are encouraged to bring a dish to share with others that comes from a recipe once shared with an ancestor. We shall provide a limited supply of biodegradable plates, utensils and glasses, so if you have a mess kit you can bring it is greatly appreciated.

At this most sacred time of our year, we invite all our community to come celebrate our connections to each other in the present, past and future. As the veil grows thin may we reach across the distances between one another and reconnect as a family extended in perfect love and trust.

May the circle be unbroken,
by and by, Oh by and by.
In the Summerlands awaiting
Out beyond the earth and sky. . . .

Mirth will fill the circle, song will fill your heart and joy to fill your memories.

Please feel free to repost this to other sites, as we welcome all seekers and welcome home all who have been away.

Donations are requested to assist in covering cost of the rental of the hall, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds
