Honor for the dead ~ Blessings for the Earth

Event Details: SONOMA COUNTY PAGAN NETWORK OCTOBER GATHERING
SAMHAIN RITUAL AND ANNUAL WITCHES’ BALL Honor for the dead ~ Blessings for the Earth
Friday, November 2 ~ Doors open at 7 pm Luther Burbank Art and Garden Center 2050 Yulupa Ave., Santa Rosa **Wheelchair Accessible**
SAMHAN RITUAL Our Samhain ritual will be guided by Leeanen Sidhe. The focus of the ritual will be on honoring those who have passed through the veil this year, opening ourselves to the wisdom of our ancestors and then sending a blessing spell for the Earth.
This is the time of year when we remember. We are blessed by the people we love. We rejoice in the connections to our family, our community and our ancestors. But we can hurt too. We can hurt when we see an empty chair; we can hurt when the loss of a loved one is made even more difficult by having to witness the process of a prolonged illness. Their release can be our pain. The grief that follows can be very tough and cause us to feel empty. We seek the wisdom of our ancestors in order to gain perspective and find comfort again in the love from those who have passed on. Let us gather together and call upon our ancestors now that the veils to the other side are thinnest. Together, we listen.
This is the time of year too when we mark the end of the calendar and herald the beginning of a new year. But this is more than just a New Year that is coming. We stand on the cusp of the Age of Aquarius - a time of great change. The Goddess is calling us now stronger than ever to make changes for our enlightenment and healing. Mother Earth needs us to heal her too. She gives so much to us each and every day. Let us give Her something in return in the form of a blessing.
Everyone is invited to bring something (a picture, trinket, etc.) from someone held within your heart who has passed-on from this life, whether human or animal, to place on the altars during the event (to be taken home, of course) .
POTLUCK FEAST Samhain is not only a time to honor our dead, but we also mark the New Year and celebrate our abundant harvest. Let's enjoy a bountiful meal together in the midst of our dearly departed. Why not make one of Nonna's favorite recipes? We ask that you bring a potluck dish and/or non-alcoholic brew to share that serves 4-6 people. Let's treat ourselves to a good meal. Please bring your own place setting. There will be hot water available for tea.
We ask non-members to make a donation of $10 – 5 to help us cover operating costs. No one turned away for lack of funds.
WITCHES’ BALL
There will be a witches/wizards’ hat contest. So whether it's something you make yourself, or buy and embellish, come and show off your witchy chapeau at the ball! Prizes will be awarded. A costume or ritual garb is also appreciated.
BIOGRAPHY – Leeanen Sidhe In my heart I feel I've always been Pagan but I only began my path of study as solitary practitioner of the Celtic Wiccan faith in 1991. After 13 years of solitary study I began to feel that something was missing and that I'd gone on alone in my path as far as I could. So I set out to find other Pagans.
I came to the SCPN in October of 2003, and by June 2004, I had decided to become a full-fledged member. I eventually took on the role of Web Mistress for the SCPN site and served on the SCPN Board of Directors for several years.
In 2005, I joined the Coven of the Wyrd Sisters which is an electic/Dianic coven. I've been co-creating and facilitating public rituals (with and without my coven) for eight years and I’m enjoying every minute of it.
