Daughters of the Goddess announces...

Celebrate Anahita

When: Dec. 10th. 2012
Where: Concord, California

Celebrate Anahita

Event Details: Aloha

How soothing is the precious rain water falling from the heavens? Every year when the rains come, we breathe sighs of relief that life will be sustained and nourished once again. We think of the land drinking thirstily, of the seeds receiving Her moisture and feeling encouraged by Her touch. We think of the collection spots of water with relief: puddles, reservoirs, creeks, rivers and the ocean. There is enormous promise in each drop of rain. They are offerings from the Goddess to quench our thirst. We hope you will join us at Her altar!

She is Anahit in Armenia, Nahid in Modern Persia, Anaďtis in Kurdistan. She is Ardvi Sura Anahita ~ the humid, strong, immaculate one. She of many names not only blesses with the gift of Water, She is the divinity of Water itself. The life force that pulses through each drop and flows through the bodies of all living things, allowing life to occur. Without Her nothing would be. With Her, all things thrive.

Worship and reverence for Anahita can be traced back as far as the 4th century bce in Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, and Kurdistan where She was venerated as the source of the Cosmic ocean and worshipped for Her Wisdom properties as well as Her life giving properties. Womyn and men prayed to Her for fertility ~ for moist inviting wombs, healthy flowing sperm, and abundant milk supply from the breasts of mothers. She is the River Goddess, She is the Mother Goddess. From Mount Hara, the legendary mountain around which the stars and planets revolve, Anahita pours Her blessings from the holy pitcher of life. She is both the creator and pourer, as well as the water and the sacred Mother. Her association with this mountain is profound for the mountain itself is seen as the ancestor of the ancient Persians: The guardian, the guarding one, the peak of good deeds. This mountain is the center of the universe and this is where Anahita resides.

The Anahita Temple on the Eastern edge of Kangavar in Kurdistan (now Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria and parts of the former U.S.S.R) is the most well preserved of Her Temples. It has been under archaeological excavation off an on since 1968, but has been so largely damaged through time, "renovation", and dismantling for needed building supplies, that it is very difficult to ascertain what the worship of Her looked and felt like within this structure over 2200 years ago.

As you prepare for this ritual which will occur during the dark Scorpio Moon consider your sacred relationship with Water and all of the gifts that it brings to you. Do you conserve it, do you revere it, do you treat it like a gift that is being poured from the Divine pitcher of Anahita?

For the altar please bring a green or blue candle, water from sacred sites that you would like to share, doves or peacocks ~ Her sacred animals, and any green boughs from your yard that would like to be on the altar as an offering to Her.

If you are interested in participating on one of our rituals please see our website for more information.

Daughters of the Goddess is a Dianic womyn-only Goddess Temple dedicated to honoring Multicultural Goddesses through rituals and celebrating ceremonies of Womyn's Mysteries in the Spirit of Aloha. We generally have two rituals a month and are always looking for new womyn who feel the call of the Goddess. For more information, ritual calendar and newsletter check out our website.
