Officers of Avalon - Pagan Thanksgiving Weekend

Event Details: Officers of Avalon Presents A Pagan Thanksgiving.
Nov 26 - 29, 2009
Greater Chicago Area

This event is open to everyone.

Join us for a fun filled weekend in Chicago for fun and relaxation. See the sites of Chicago, relax in the pool, hang out with friends, and do some shopping. We'll provide some meals and a meeting space. We'll even have children's activities for Saturday so you can sneak off for some shopping or quiet adult time. During the banquet dinner on Saturday night, Angie Buchanan will speak to us about the important work being done by the Parliament of World Religions. We'll wind up the perfect weekend with a Sunday brunch. The best part is that you'll be helping to raise money for Angie's trip. We'll hold a silent auction and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to her group.

Since 1893, the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions has initiated dialogues and nurtured relationships among people of difference. In doing so the Council has provided a framework for expressing many visions of a just, peaceful and sustainable future. In the process, religious and spiritual communities have discovered a shared commitment to ethical principles. This shared commitment has opened the way for a new era of cooperative action among the world’s religious and spiritual communities as well as civil and political societies. The well-being of the Earth and all life depends on this collaboration. In December of 2009, the Parliament will convene in Melbourne Australia with an expected draw of 8000 to 10, 000 people from all over the world in attendance. The theme of this event is "Hearing Each Other, Healing the Earth".

Schedule :
Arrivals at the hotel on the 26 or 27 at your leisure. Let us know if you're coming in Thursday and we can make reservations for a Thanksgiving dinner.

Friday, Nov 27th - meet and greet with a cash bar 4 pm - 7 pm

Saturday Nov 28th - noon - lunch is served! Gather to organize for the day's outings
6 pm - dinner banquet with cash bar. Speaker : Angie Buchanan
Among the world issues being addressed are the environmental crisis and the plight of the Aboriginal Australians. As Pagans, we can take this opportunity to call upon the various religious representatives present at the Parliament to take active part in the environmentalism that is such an integral part of our spirituality, and in the preservation of indigenous traditions, including our own. We have the opportunity to say
that preservation requires much more than just words or apologies: among other things it requires reparation, it requires autonomy, and it requires restitution.

Sunday Nov 29th - 9 am Sunday brunch buffet opens. You need to clear out by noon!

Cost : Saturday night dinner only - $50 per person (cash bar) .
All weekend - $100 per adult; $40 per child under 12; Under 2 is free. Register at http://officersofavalon.com/event/officers-of-avalon-first-anual-get-together-registration.html

Very important note : Hotel room reservations MUST BE MADE by Nov 4th!!! The rate is significantly higher after that.
